Disney and Pixar Wow Crowds at Annecy Animation Festival

At this year’s Annecy’s International Animation Film Festival, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios offered a series of surprises that thrilled festival goers.

Jared Bush, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ chief creative officer and director/writer of the upcoming “Zootopia 2,” made his first appearance in Annecy to debut new footage and images from the anticipated sequel of the beloved Oscar®-winning global hit film, which will be theatrically released this November.

Thunderous applause and bursts of laughter punctuated his presentation as footage screened featured returning characters Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin), Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), and Mr. Big (voice of Maurice LaMarche), and new characters Gary De’Snake (voice of Ke Huy Quan), Nibbles (Fortune Feimster) and Dr. Fuzzby (voice of Quinta Brunson). The audience was particularly delighted when learning that French actor Jean Reno will lend his voice to a cameo role as an officer of the Zootopia Police Department. To celebrate the original film, “Zootopia” will be screened tonight under the stars on Le Pâquier.

Also within the presentation, Disney legendary director Ron Clements (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess and the Frog,” “Moana”) was honored on stage with an induction into Annecy’s Walk of Fame. The celebration continued with a surprise announcement from Jared Bush revealing that Clements will return to Walt Disney Studios Animation in an advisory role.

Pixar kicked off their panel with the arrival of Pete Docter, Pixar Animation Studios’ chief creative officer, alongside “Elio” directors Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi, and producer Mary Alice Drumm. The “Elio” filmmakers offered a brief preview of their summer movie full of heart, laughs and fantasy. The screening of 27 minutes of the movie enchanted festival goers, leaving them eager to discover the full scope of this brand-new adventure which will hit theatres next week.

The audience was then treated to an exclusive look at Pixar’s upcoming slate by Docter, who was honored with an induction into Annecy’s Walk of Fame. Highlights of the presentation included never-before-seen footage from Pixar’s March, 2026 release, “Hoppers,” screened exclusively for the Annecy audience along with a sneak peek at the first two minutes of the studio’s summer 2026 release, “Toy Story 5.”

Docter confirmed the return of Joan Cusack as Jessie in this next “Toy Story” chapter and announced exciting new characters as well. As the supervising animator on the original “Toy Story,” Docter then showcased rarely seen legacy footage from “Toy Story,” the first feature length computer animated film ever released, in celebration of its 30th anniversary.

Additionally, Docter announced a brand-new original project called “Gatto,” slated for summer 2027. From the filmmaking team behind “Luca,” director Enrico Casarosa and producer Andrea Warren, the new film returns to Italy, this time to Venice, where after years of maneuvering the canal-ridden, superstitious city, a black cat named Nero begins to question whether he’s lived the right lives. Indebted to a local feline mob boss, Nero finds himself in a quandary and is forced to forge a truly unexpected friendship that may finally lead him to his purpose—unless Venice gets the better of him first.

Universal Studios Unleashes 72 MPH “Fast & Furious” Coaster

Universal Studios Hollywood announces its “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” first-ever, high-speed outdoor roller coaster launching in 2026 will debut as the fastest roller coaster in the Universal Destinations & Experiences portfolio at a staggering 72 MPH.

Construction continues on this ambitious roller coaster and its state-of-the-art ride system, which is being uniquely designed to immerse guests within Universal Pictures’ exhilarating Fast & Furious universe.

This innovative roller coaster will take guests on an adventure, unlike anything ever encountered before. Featuring groundbreaking 360-degree rotation of the individual ride vehicles, the coaster will rocket guests up to 72 MPH along 4,100 feet of elaborate track, meticulously constructed with sound reduction technology for a breathtaking experience.

The fully rotational ride vehicles will create a seamless sensation of drifting cars as guests spin in motion at furiously fast speeds while being catapulted along an aerial track that winds its way over sections of the theme park, including the multi-level escalator that connects the Upper and Lower Lots.

“Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” will be located on the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood. Guests will queue up within an expansive garage-like structure before settling into one of four ride vehicles, designed to look like the iconic cars from the films. The ride vehicle modeled after Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger is currently on display at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Disneyland’s Next Chapter: Unveiling Ambitious Expansion Plans

Plans are underway for a new parking structure and transportation hub to be built on the east side of the Disneyland Resort, on a portion of what is currently the Manchester cast member parking lot. This new area will provide approximately 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle and rideshare areas, security screening, and dedicated traffic access off of Disney Way to improve parking and traffic flow throughout the resort area.

The new parking and transportation hub will also feature a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard, leading to an all-new esplanade arrival experience and providing convenient public access.

These enhanced offerings are the first step in the resort’s next phase of construction. The project will create the necessary infrastructure to prepare for future growth and welcome more guests for new experiences. Upcoming additions include two new attractions that will double the size of Avengers Campus, a new “Coco”-themed ride, and an Avatar destination at Disney California Adventure Park.

The multi-year construction of this new arrival experience is slated to begin in the fall of 2026.

Updates on the Location for the “Coco” Attraction

Disney also announced that the upcoming attraction themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Coco” will be built near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, in areas that are predominantly backstage today. Construction on this attraction is set to begin backstage this fall.

Avatar Experience Location Details

Additionally, a portion of the current Hollywood Backlot area will be transformed into the Avatar destination in Disney California Adventure. This project is still in the early stages of development, and additional details will be shared later, including construction timeframes.

To make way for this new experience, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will close in early 2026.

This isn’t just any ice cream truck; it’s a vibrant, real-world extension of the beloved animated series, designed to delight both longtime fans and new viewers. Step right up and discover a playful experience filled with series-inspired frozen treats, exclusive goodies, and so much more that’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped right into Danville.

The Ice Cream Truck Tour is making a grand splash with over 40 stops across some of Los Angeles’ most iconic and high-traffic locations. You can catch the truck at famous spots like the Griffith Park Observatory, the bustling Santa Monica Pier Beach, and the historic El Capitan Theatre. But the fun doesn’t stop there!

Phineas and Ferb

Disney is bringing the joy to family-friendly community hubs, including various Farmer’s Markets, lively AYSO games, and many other exciting locations that will be listed soon. Keep an eye out for a stop near you!

And the excitement doesn’t end with the ice cream! Get ready for the highly anticipated fifth season of Phineas and Ferb! Nike and the LEGO Unveil Play Arena at LEGOLAND California

Get ready to play! From June 7 to 11, 2025, the Nike and LEGO Play Arena will open its doors at LEGOLAND California Resort, the family theme park operated by Merlin Entertainments.

This limited-time experience is part of Nike and the LEGO Group’s exciting global multi-year partnership, dedicated to inspiring active and creative play among children and families. The partnership brings together the imaginative power of LEGO bricks with the “Just Do It” spirit of Nike to welcome all kids into sport and play.

LEGOxNIKE

The Nike and LEGO Play Arena provides a basketball-themed experience for children and families. Guests can participate in a wide range of fun activities, all included with general admission at LEGOLAND California Resort, including:

  • LEGO Minifigure Athlete Trading Cards: Kids can create their own personalized LEGO Minifigure character trading card featuring stylish Nike outfits, perfect for trading and sharing with friends.
  • LEGO Mini Basketball Jerseys: They can use LEGO bricks to build and display their own mini basketball jersey, showcasing their creativity and team spirit.
  • LEGO 3-Point Shot: Kids and families may test their skills by shooting the ultimate 3-pointer on a specially designed court that brings the fun of basketball to life in LEGO form.
  • Wall of Fame Photo Opportunity: All guests can capture the moment by taking a photo against the vibrant Wall of Fame as a keepsake.

Following the Nike and LEGO Play Arena and over the coming months, kids can enjoy the opportunity to engage in immersive experiences across different cities around the world, as well as a full collection of products, including LEGO sets and Nike footwear and apparel.

The first LEGO product goes on sale on July 1, with the LEGO Nike Dunk set. This 1180-piece set, for LEGO fans aged 10 and up, features a Nike Dunk, rotatable brick basketball toy and iconic “Dunk” slogan that sports fans can build, rebuild and display. Inspired by the iconic sneaker, first born and worn more than 40 years ago, this set is a celebration of sneaker culture and LEGO creativity that blends the worlds of building and basketball.

The first Nike products will go on sale starting on August 1 beginning with the Nike Air Max Dn x LEGO® Collection as well as a line of apparel and accessories, followed by the Nike Dunk Low x LEGO® Collection and more, all celebrating the lifestyle of sport and play. The design of these products was inspired by the unique LEGO design aesthetic, from the iconic stud to the stylized LEGO Minifigure, combined with the power of sport culture and DNA that Nike brings.
