The beloved satirical workplace comedy “9 to 5” (1980) starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin will return to theaters for a special weeklong theatrical run beginning October 9, 2026. Tickets to see the newly restored 20th Century Studios film in theaters are now on sale, and Disney will donate net proceeds* from each U.S. ticket purchase to The Dollywood Foundation to support its flagship program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
The “9 to 5” theatrical re-release was announced today on “Give Like Dolly Day,” a new annual celebration encouraging the world to make a difference in a child’s life and honor Parton’s lifelong mission, inspiring children to “Dream More, Learn More, Care More and Be More.” “Give Like Dolly Day” is observed annually on 9/25 – a date chosen as an homage to the film’s title.
In “9 to 5,” a group of female office workers – the all-knowing manager who trained the boss but can’t get promoted (Lily Tomlin), a befuddled newcomer (Jane Fonda) and an alluring personal secretary everyone presumes is having an affair (Dolly Parton) – all band together to seek revenge on the man who is making their lives miserable.
Directed by Colin Higgins and produced by Bruce Gilbert from a screenplay by Higgins and Patricia Resnick, “9 to 5” received an Academy Award® nomination for the hit title song written and performed by Dolly Parton.
20th Century Studios is releasing the newly restored film in theaters for a one-week engagement, from October 9-15.
