With nostalgia in full bloom, it isn’t a surprise that two of Disney’s most popular characters are making their return to television with a new original series coming to Disney+. The news, revealed at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, has given fans their first look at the latest Disney+ original series, “Chip ‘n’ Dale”.
The series is being developed by Disney’s London based animation team in collaboration with Xilam Animation in Paris. “Chip ‘n’ Dale” will have 39 seven minute episodes, each throwing back to a non-verbal style comedy, similar to what fans have seen in earlier iterations of the character’s classic shorts. The series will also have a similar look and feel to the new Mickey Mouse shorts, combining a traditional and contemporary style through the direction of Jean Cayrol and Marc du Pontavice.
Disney+ also received another reveal, as the streaming service shared a first look at the logo for the new original series, “Monsters at Work”. Set to debut in 2020, “Monsters at Work” will bring back the talented duo of Billy Crystal and John Goodman as Mike and Sulley.
The new show will pick up the story six months after Monster’s, Inc. Now that scare energy is banned, the power plant is harvesting the power of laughter to fuel the ever growing needs of Monstropolis. The series will introduce a new character, Tylor Tuskmon, an eager and talented young mechanic that wants nothing more than make it to the Laugh Floor with his idols, Mike and Sulley. The series was developed and is executive produced by Disney animation veteran Bobs Gannaway (“Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Planes: Fire & Rescue”) with Ferrell Barron (“Planes: Fire & Rescue”) serving as producer.
Disney+ will release to the general public this fall, with an onslaught of original content that includes original series, films, and more. Make sure to stay tuned for more as we get closer to the big debut!
