Traditionally, preparing to see the midnight showing of a highly anticipated movie is a stressful experience for a number of reasons: getting to the theater early enough to find the proper queue for your auditorium number, procuring a position close enough to the front of the line, then waiting for multiple hours only to be ushered in to the building to scramble for a decent seat.
This is all a very long process that you can kiss goodbye when you see a premier, or any film at the UltraLuxe Anaheim Cinemas at GardenWalk. In addition to reserved seating in all of their theaters, the UltraLuxe features a hidden lounge serving entrees, hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic beverages. So while your seat is being held for you prior to the movie, you can enjoy a drink and some good food rather than waiting in the cold for hours on end. You can also get your popcorn and soda before heading to your auditorium. (see photos of the food below)

The auditorium (Called the UltraMax) in which I had the opportunity view the film was outfitted with very comfortable recliners. My party was kindly escorted to our assigned seats where we comfortably waited for the movie to begin. The 65 foot screen was impressive even while dark, but after the projector had warmed up, the picture it threw onto the screen was crisp and crystal clear. We were advised that recently, the sound system had been overhauled. While one might expect a new sound system to blow you away, from our position toward the back of the theater, the front audio channels sounded very muffled and almost tunnel-like. Low frequencies also seemed to rattle rather than resonate and overall, the audio track seemed fairly quiet in volume.
Understanding that an audio system is calibrated from the center of the theater, our position may not have been optimal for audio clarity, but this theater sounded to not have been professionally calibrated at all. This was my only qualm with my entire experience. Eventually, my ears adjusted and I was still able to enjoy the movie, but not with the high fidelity audio that I had anticipated.
The UltraLuxe Cinemas offers many luxuries that one would be hard pressed to find at another equally priced theater. It would surprise me if the sound system was not quickly brought up to par with the level of quality that the other elements of this theater display. It was quite a treat to experience the midnight showing of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” at a cinema with such class.
The UltraLuxe also offers 21 and over only auditoriums featuring beer and wine and in-seat ordering with luxury VIP seating. Also this theater offers D-BOX enhanced motion chair technology (extra charge applies).
