Reinventing temperature measurement with a revolutionary sensor

Withings Thermo measures the temperature from the temporal artery at the side of head, the new gold standard for temperature measurement, which provides one of the most accessible and reliable images of body temperature, while ensuring a comfortable and sanitary process. Withings Thermo boasts the new HotSpot SensorTM Technology: a sophisticated sensor array of 16 independent infrared (IR) sensors that can quickly locate and measure the IR signature and heat being emitted.

With just a point in the direction of the artery, without requiring any motion or scanning, the sensors take 4,000 measurements in 2 seconds while a specially-designed algorithm automatically corrects for biases, such as skin heat loss and the ambient temperature. The hottest point is then determined to ensure the most accurate and reliable single temperature reading.

Thermo automatically sends temperature readings to your smartphone on the dedicated application, via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, allowing a seamless synchronization. Temperature taking made easy and convenient

Measurement is made via an incredibly simple gesture. Users gently place the device on their forehead, click the button, and they get the result instantly. A vibration tells the user when the measurement is complete, and along with displaying the reading in either Celsius and Fahrenheit, the device will also provide instant color-coded feedback via a LED display that will glow Green for normal, Orange for moderated, and Red for elevated temperature levels. With Thermo, taking the temperature of a sleeping child, and evaluating its fever in the dark is incredibly easy.

For nearly 13 years, “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” has presented the magical tale of Aladdin in a lavish, immersive production at the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure Park. The dynamic stage show became an instant hit with guests and the cast has performed it more than 14,000 times. Now, guests are invited to experience the “Wonderful! Magnificent! Glorious!” musical – with words such as those from the Genie and other memorable characters – before the final, flying carpet ride on January 10, 2016. Blackmarket Bakery To Open New Location in Historic Downtown Santa Ana

Chef Rachel Klemek will be extending the reach of her award-winning made-from-scratch baked goods when she opens a new outpost, Blackmarket Bakery on Broadway, on Saturday, January 9th, 2016 in the downtown Santa Ana’s Santora building in the Artists Village (211 N. Broadway). Chef Klemek’s inspired approach to baking has set her apart within the county’s culinary landscape. Staying true to its roots, the new Santa Ana neighborhood bakery will highlight pastries made from her token “blackmarket” ingredients – butter, flour, sugar, and eggs.

Built in 1928, the Santora building houses the bakery’s 2,300-square-foot space, adding a “retro” feel with art-deco elements, reminiscent of simpler times. As the largest Blackmarket Bakery yet, the Santa Ana location remains family friendly as it sees the addition of new menu items, including craft beers and hard ciders. The menu will also feature a new lineup of savory “bar bite” offerings, sandwiches made with fresh-baked breads, seasonal salads and sweet and hearty brunch items (the latter of which will be coming this Spring). Like its Costa Mesa counterpart, which opened in 2012, the Santa Ana restaurant focuses on its made-from-scratch daily retail offerings such as Chef Rachel’s artisanal breads and now-famous “eggywiches,” as well as delectable desserts, including the Total Eclipse Mousse Cake, Cookie Monster Bread Pudding, and her famed Black Widow Tart. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge in Blackmarket signature cookies, including Walnut Mudslides, Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies, and the Classic Two Tone.

“Expanding into the Santa Ana market will allow us to serve even more of our community,” explained Chef Rachel, who opened her first Blackmarket Bakery in an industrial park in Irvine back in 2004. “The addition of craft beer and hard cider, as well as an expanded menu of family friendly favorites, gives our Santa Ana location a little something for everyone.”

Blackmarket Bakery Santa Ana will offer Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner daily, as well as a Happy Hour offered Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. During this time, guests can look forward to enjoying small plates to get their evening started. Spectacular Float Spotlights Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration in 127th Rose Parade

The magic of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration will come to life as a float in the 127th Rose Parade, broadcast live from Pasadena, Calif., on Jan. 1, 2016. The parade will step off at 8 a.m. (PST) with the theme “Find Your Adventure,” and the Disneyland Resort float honors some of the most exciting adventures awaiting guests at the Happiest Place on Earth.

During a recent Media Preview we had the opportunity to see a rare behind-the-scenes look of this amazing float (see our extensive photo gallery below). We also chatted with John Addis, Disneyland Resort Entertainment Director who gave us insights about how much work that went into creating this float and what to expect on New Year Day. There are 3 separate units which will be connected by bridges.

At the heart of the float will be a sparkling recreation of Sleeping Beauty Castle, complete with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse welcoming everyone to the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. Flanking the castle are two adventures that are brought to life at the Disneyland Resort. The first comes from the world of “Frozen” and depicts Elsa’s ice castle – straight out of Arendelle – accompanied by Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Kristoff. A separate adventure depicted on the float makes the jump to hyperspace and travels to a galaxy far, far away for a thrilling adventure dedicated to the Star Wars films and exciting new Star Wars experiences at Disneyland Park.

During the parade there will be a brief showstop in front of the cameras and about 101 Characters will join the float at that moment to pay tribute to Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary said Addis. The float will also have strobes that will make it come to life. In addition Scott Auerbach, our Parade Float Designer worked with AES, the company that built the floats, to come up with the type of flowers to be used and color palate. We had a challenge with the Star Wars float piece as well as trying to create diamonds using flowers for the Castle unit. This year is also the 50th Anniversary that Walt Disney was Grand Marshall of the Rose Parade back in 1966 added Addis.

Since its premiere in spring 2015, the 60th Anniversary Diamond Celebration has thrilled resort guests with sparking décor and spectacular entertainment, including the after-dark “Paint the Night” parade, “Disneyland Forever” fireworks and “World of Color – Celebrate!’ The celebration will continue to dazzle Disneyland Resort guests through Sept. 5, 2016.

Since the blockbuster success of the Disney animated motion picture “Frozen” in 2013, Disneyland Resort guests have enjoyed multiple opportunities to relive the adventures of Anna and Elsa – in character encounters at Disney California Adventure Park, on floats in “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” and “Paint the Night” in Disneyland, in a live “Frozen” show at Fantasy Faire in Disneyland, and in a “Frozen” sing-along celebration. An all-new “Frozen”-inspired stage musical will open in summer 2016 in the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure. Chris Buck, Director, and Peter Del Vecho Producer of “Frozen” joined the Volunteers to add some final touches on the Frozen float unit.

The recent debut of Season of the Force in Tomorrowland at Disneyland has taken guests into the Star Wars galaxy with new experiences as well as enhancements to popular attractions. Star Wars Launch Bay immerses guests in familiar Star Wars-inspired locations where they may encounter favorite characters, take a peek behind-the-scenes of the Star Wars films, and find special exhibits and collectibles. Hyperspace Mountain and a new Star Tours destination from Star Wars: The Force Awakens take guests on thrilling journeys. Additional highlights include “Star Wars: Path of the Jedi,” a short film connecting iconic scenes from the Star Wars saga, and a reimagined “Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple” show featuring new characters and a new villain. Star Wars fans are anxiously awaiting the new Star Wars-themed land coming to both Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts. Work on the new land will begin in 2016.

Spanish Charm and Luxury in Cozy Claremont, CA

Claremont is only about 30 miles from my home in Pasadena, but my recent trip to the sleepy college town transported me much farther away, to a relaxing and beautiful place reminiscent of a mountain resort community with touches of Spain.

My getaway to Claremont began when a friend and I checked into a luxurious suite at Casa 425, a Spanish-styled boutique hotel in the heart of the town square. Replete with a red tiled roof, white stucco exterior, classic Spanish arches, and an interior, tree-lined plaza courtyard, the 28-room hotel is an alluring structure in the small town, located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains.

The rooms at Casa 425 are no less grand. Our second-floor accommodations featured a large glass-wall entry way that overlooked the hotel’s lounge and courtyard. Inside the suite we found a huge soaking tube, separating the living room from the bathroom. Other room highlights included a comfy king bed, with down comforter and fine linens, large wall-mounted TV, separate shower, small refrigerator, coffee maker, and free wireless Internet.

Besides well-appointed rooms, the hotel also offers a complimentary European breakfast, and boasts Casa 425 Lounge & Bar. This signature hang-out has a full bar and serves savory small plates in an intimate setting, with a cozy indoor room and outdoor seating in the courtyard, surrounded by glass fire pits and heat lamps.

The historic packing house is a reminder of Claremont’s rich agricultural history 

Across the street from the hotel is the Packing House (www.claremontpackinghouse.com), the largest historic building in the Claremont Village. With scores of restaurants, shops and businesses located under its metal roof, it has become one of the hottest destinations in town.

The history of the Packing House began in 1890s, when Claremont was a major fruit-growing area. Around this time, local growers founded the state’s first agricultural cooperative and built the Packing House in 1922 to process fruit, pack it in boxes with distinctive commercial art labels and then ship it around the world.

As locals orchards disappeared, the Packing House eventually shut down in 1972 and stood empty until the city purchased the building and restored it in 2007.

Today, the Claremont Packing House is a centerpiece of the community, with historic architecture mixing with fine dining, jazz concerts, stand-up comedy, hip boutiques, wine tastings, art classes, art walks and festivals.

After touring the Packing House, my friend and I strolled a few blocks through town to dinner at Viva Madrid (www.vivamadrid.com), an authentic Spanish restaurant teeming with tasty tapas in a colorful, home-styled, antique store-type setting.

Our meal began with Gamba al Ajillo, a favorite tapa in Spain, with shrimp cooked in garlic, white wine, parsley, lemon juice, and extra virgin olive oil. Next we devoured Espárragos con Salmon, a delightful dish of asparagus wrapped with smoked salmon. Continuing down the extensive tapas list, we enjoyed Croquetas de Pesaco tapas, with crab, shrimp, tuna, onions, and bread crumbs; followed by Calamares con Chorizo, which is squid stuffed with chorizo in an onion, herb, tomato sauce.

While eating we sipped Estrella de Galcia, a smooth, refreshing Spanish beer, and admired the restaurant’s Spanish-styled décor, with large, old wooden front door, wooden chairs, a faux balcony, and walls lined with a bull’s head, swords, sculptures, mirrors and paintings.

After dinner we walked back through The Village and stopped at the Coffee Bean for mini- bear claw and a cup of coffee. We ate our dessert on a bench in the beautiful plaza, located behind Casa 425. Surrounded by shops, restaurants, and a movie theater, this outdoor area, is a great place to relax while visiting Claremont.
