Okay, foodies, listen up! HUGE news for the Long Beach dining scene! Sosogu Sushi & Japanese BBQ is now open in its absolutely stunning flagship location at 3860 Worsham Ave #300, right in the middle of the happening LBX Long Beach Exchange.

Now, if the name Sosogu sounds familiar, it might be because of its acclaimed spot in Redlands, founded back in 2022. Get this – one of the co-founders is Tobias Miller, yes, the former guitarist from The Wallflowers, who teamed up with hospitality expert Richard Gottlieb. This new Long Beach location takes everything amazing about the original and dials it up – we’re talking seriously premium Japanese eats, seafood sourced with incredible care, and a full bar that’s going to blow you away. This is poised to be the new benchmark for modern Japanese dining in the area.

At Sosogu, it’s all about purity and letting amazing ingredients shine. Prepare your taste buds for premium Japanese BBQ sets featuring that melt-in-your-mouth A5 Japanese Wagyu, American Wagyu, and other specialty cuts you won’t want to miss. Their signature sushi courses are crafted with wild-caught fish, showing off some serious knife skills. And guess what? They even make their noodles in-house for that perfect, authentic texture and flavor. Don’t even get me started on the small plates and desserts – think delicate Hokkaido Scallop Carpaccio, addictive Nagoya-Style Wings, luxurious Toro Caviar Crispy Rice, and the must-try Brick Toast with salted honey, whipped cream, and berries. Drooling yet?

We were invited to try out the various dishes at Sosogu and everything we had was delicious. Here’s a look at the Tasting menu and foods.

Co-Founder Tobias Miller puts it perfectly: “Japanese cuisine is an art form that transforms simple, high-quality ingredients into an unforgettable dish.” He stressed their commitment, saying, “At Sosogu, we uphold this tradition by meticulously sourcing every element, from the fish and meats to the rice, and even crafting our noodles in-house. Our goal is to create a dining experience that truly honors Japanese culinary craftsmanship.” You can totally feel that passion!

Sosogu means “Pour It Up,” and let me tell you, the vibe totally embraces that celebratory spirit. The centerpiece is an expansive full bar that houses Southern California’s largest curated sake collection – seriously! You can explore rare gems like Katoukichibee Born “Chogin,” Noguchi 01 Limited Edition, and Noguchi 01 Special Edition.

If sake’s not your jam, their handcrafted cocktails like the Roku Grapefruit Spritz and Japanese Old Fashioned sound divine, plus they have an extensive Japanese whisky list with tasting flights for the true connoisseurs.

Taking over the former Plancha Latin Kitchen space in the upscale LBX district, Sosogu Long Beach looks incredible – sleek and modern, but with beautiful traditional Japanese touches. It’s a spacious 3,500 sq ft spot with a patio, ready to welcome about 135 guests. Here’s the super fun part: 18 tables feature state-of-the-art infrared grills for an interactive Japanese BBQ experience! Imagine grilling your own Japanese A5 Wagyu brisket or hanger steak, right at the table – yes, please!

Miller added, “Our Redlands location was embraced with such enthusiasm that expanding felt like a natural next step. LBX offers the perfect setting to elevate our vision, with an expanded menu, full bar, and an immersive Japanese BBQ experience. We can’t wait to welcome Long Beach to the world of Sosogu and ‘pour it up’ together at our grand opening!” Honestly, I can’t wait either! Get ready, Long Beach – this is going to be epic!
