The Super Bowl is heading to a galaxy far, far away. ESPN, Lucasfilm, Disney and the NFL announced that “Star Wars Funday Football” — a real-time, animated alternate telecast of Super Bowl LXI set in the Star Wars galaxy — will stream live on Disney+ and the ESPN App and air on Disney Channel and Disney XD on Sunday, February 14, 2027.

Iconic characters from across the Lucasfilm franchise will join the action alongside the AFC and NFC champions — including C-3PO, voiced by original Star Wars cast member Anthony Daniels, returning to the role he first played in 1977.

How It Fits Into Super Bowl Sunday

The animated telecast extends ESPN’s Emmy-winning Funday Football brand — the team behind the “Toy Story” and “Simpsons” animated games — to America’s biggest game, and it marks ESPN’s first-ever Super Bowl production. It will complement the traditional telecast with Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Lisa Salters and Laura Rutledge on ESPN, ABC and Disney+ from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, along with other alternate presentations across ESPN2, NFL Network and ESPNU.

The animated game will also reach fans around the world, with expanded live international availability, and it will be available on demand on Disney+ shortly after the live telecast in those markets. We don’t know about you, but we’ve never been more ready for some football.
