Who would win in a racing competition? Dash or Lightning McQueen? Mrs. Incredible or Mike Wazowski? Buzz Lightyear, Dash or Davy Jones… while riding on Stitch’s surfboard?
In the Toy Box mode, players can pit these characters and more in head to head races on custom built tracks. They can build their own race tracks using pieces unlocked while playing in the Toy Box mode, in addition to other items brought over from the Monsters University, Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean and Cars play sets.

Woo Hoo! Springfield, hometown to America’s favorite animated family, The Simpsons, comes to life at Universal Orlando Resort this summer.
The expansive, new area within Universal Studios will be anchored by the mega-attraction, The Simpsons Ride, and will allow guests to enter the world of The Simpsons like never before. It will be the only place in the world where guests can walk the streets of Springfield. It will include a brand-new outdoor attraction, places and foods pulled right from the show and two new Simpsons characters who will make their debut with the new area – Krusty the Clown and Sideshow Bob.
And yes – there will be Duff Beer, brewed exclusively for Universal Orlando.
For the first time ever – anywhere – fans will be able to walk down Fast Food Boulevard and visit the places that helped Springfield stake its claim as “Shelbyville by the Sea.” They will be able to grab a Krusty-certified meat sandwich at Krusty Burger, snatch the catch of the day at the Frying Dutchman, get a slice at Luigi’s Pizza, go nuts for donuts at Lard Lad, enjoy a “Taco Fresho” with Bumblebee Man and imbibe at Moe’s Tavern.
The new attraction – called Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl – will take “foolish humans” on an intergalactic spin designed to send them into orbit.
“This will be a must-see experience for Simpsons fans all over the world,” said Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative. “For the first time ever, they’re going to be able to enter a world that they’ve only seen on television – and we’re really excited to bring that world to life.”
“This new expansion will broaden and deepen the already incredible experience at Universal, by bringing to life the iconic landmarks of Springfield that fans have grown to love,” said Jeffrey Godsick, President, Fox Consumer Products. “Fans will literally be able to live and breathe Springfield as they visit the statue of Jebediah, enjoy a Krusty Burger, and have a seat at Moe’s Tavern, which are just a few of the great experiences awaiting at Universal.”
“It has been an honor to bring the world of the Simpsons to life in such a letter-perfect way,” said Denise Sirkot, President, Worldwide Brand, Gracie Films. “Truly this is the Krustyest place on earth.”

Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right. Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and award-winning composer Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). Rated G by the MPAA, the film opens in U.S. theaters on June 21, 2013, and will be shown in 3D in select theaters.
LEGOLAND® California Resort is proud to announce the world’s largest LEGO® model is “landing” at the family theme park in Carlsbad on June 13, 2013. The model weighs more than 45,000 pounds, stands 11 feet tall and 43 feet long, with a wingspan of 44 feet. After its New York appearance, the X-wing is making the trip across the country to LEGOLAND California Resort where it will be on display for guests to enjoy through the remainder of the year.

For one night only, two of the world’s most celebrated songwriters and composers will take to the stage for “Richard M. Sherman and Alan Menken: The Disney Songbook.” The concert will take place at the D23 Expo 2013 at the Anaheim Convention Center in the D23 Expo Arena on Saturday, August 10.
Together Sherman and Menken have won a combined 10 Academy Awards for their work with Disney, and have composed music and songs for more than three dozen Disney feature films, over two dozen Disney Park attractions and half a dozen Disney musicals on Broadway.
“I can’t express how excited I am that my esteemed friend Alan Menken and I will be sharing the same bill for the very first time,” said Sherman. “Alan is an incredible talent, and I know we’re both thrilled to be performing for Disney’s most ardent fans—they’re the best and I can’t wait to be a part of what promises to be a very special night for all of us.”
“Richard Sherman and I share so many things; our cherished association with The Walt Disney Company, the blessing of having the opportunity to share our musical talents with “children of all ages” and a genuine mutual admiration—but one thing we’ve never gotten to share is a concert stage,” said Menken. “This summer at the D23 Expo 2013, we will do just that. And I can’t think of anyone I’d prefer to share that stage with. Richard, along with his brother Robert, wrote songs that filled my formative years with joy and fantasy. And, all these years later, I can say with complete honesty that there is no one I’ve met in our business who is more warm and generous than my friend and fellow songwriter, Richard Sherman.”
Admission to the concert will be on a first-come, first-served basis and is included in the price of a ticket to the D23 Expo. In addition to the 4,000-seat D23 Expo Arena, the concert will be simulcast into a 2,000-seat overflow theater inside the Convention Center.
Richard M. Sherman and his brother Robert B. Sherman composed some of the most beloved songs in the Disney canon. The Disney Legends won two Oscars® for their work on Mary Poppins, and during their decades–long association with Disney they wrote more than 200 songs for 27 films and two dozen television productions. They made unforgettable contributions to such Disney films as The Parent Trap, The Jungle Book, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and the entire Winnie the Pooh series, as well as the family classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. They also penned beloved songs for Disney Parks including the theme songs for Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, it’s a small world, and Carousel of Progress. Richard wrote the song “Make Way for Tomorrow Today” for the blockbuster film Iron Man 2, and is working on a new stage musical based on Walt Disney’s 1967 animated film classic The Jungle Book, premiering this June at the Goodman Theater in Chicago.
With eight Academy Awards, Alan Menken has received more Oscars than any living person. He has written songs and scores for some of the world’s most beloved films: Tangled (Oscar nominee), Enchanted (three Oscar nominations) The Little Mermaid (two Oscar wins), Beauty and the Beast (two Oscar wins), Aladdin (two Oscar wins), Pocahontas (two Oscar wins), Hercules (Oscar nominee), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Oscar nominee), Little Shop of Horrors (Oscar nominee), Home on the Range and Newsies. His song “Star Spangled Man,” was the patriotic anthem of the 2011 hit film Captain America: The First Avenger.
Menken’s Broadway successes include his 2012 Tony Award® for Newsies, plus The Little Mermaid (Tony Award nominee), Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, and Sister Act (Tony Award nominee). His other stage productions include King David, God Bless You Mr. Rosewater, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and his latest stage production Aladdin: The New Musical, opening next year. At Disney Parks, Menken added an exclusive ballad (“To Be Free”) to his song score for Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular at Disney California Adventure and penned “Compass of Your Heart,” the catchy theme song for the attraction Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage at Tokyo DisneySea

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Normally one reads a review of a DVD of a television series that they may have already seen in order to read about the fantastic extras and bonus features. Well, unfortunately this DVD does not have many extras or any at all for that matter. This complete first season does however contain one Hell of a show that I know went under the radar for a lot of TV watchers including myself.
The series starts off playing out much like a movie and traps you in with these characters. You quickly learn about Dr. Daniel Pierce, Eric McCormack (Will & Grace), who is quite the eccentric Cubs loving professor. I read before the plotline, but I didn’t realize by eccentric that they actually meant a schizophrenic.
This is actually an exciting twist to your average everyday cop drama that has taken over most primetime network television. Perception is actually quite refreshing and feels clever and new. It continues to compel you to keep watching as the beginning always foreshadows what is about to come and ends with a moralistic monologue that will definitely leave you thinking.
Even with this fresh take on a classic serialized television, the story and loosely related buddy cop premise does feel a bit recycled. In fact, Elementary has a similar premise. That’s the story of Sherlock Holmes and both shows follow suit of an eccentric man that becomes a consultant for the FBI to help solve challenging cases. Of course there has to be an attractive sidekick. Each have that agent that is a “nonbeliever” of the main characters ways feeling they are crazy.
Dr. Pierce helps FBI Agent Kate Moretti, Rachel Leigh Cook, as he was her professor in college. Leaving a lasting impression of his brilliance, she know sees the value he can be helping her murder mysteries. Every episode stays quick and fast pace throughout the entire episode. There hasn’t been a dull moment and as each episode ends, I just want to turn on the next.
Now sure there is definitely some outlandish storylines and cheesiness that is just so farfetched that the show screams a reminder that you are watching an incredibly fictionalized drama, but is sure is entertaining. The show remains well produced, well written, witty and smart from episode to episode with each one having that same energetic race to solve the case through Dr. Pierces unconventional ways.
By no means is a show that will ever be talked about by everyone, but there is definitely potential for the continuing story between the two leads and his interesting invisible lady friend that they keep eluding toward what we are already thinking anyway. If they can keep the story strong and stories clever without getting too outlandish, this could be a sleeper show that survives 6+ seasons. I guess it will depend most on the success of the summers run of season 2.
Perception, which is produced by ABC Studios and airs on TNT, was created by executive producer Ken Biller (Star Trek: Voyager, Smallville) and co-executive producer Mike Sussman (Star Trek: Enterprise), with McCormack serving as producer. Alan Poul (Six Feet Under) directed and served as executive producer for the pilot.
It goes without saying that this film, at least in this iteration, wouldn’t exist if not for the success of Twilight. The teen angst-filled supernatural forbidden love story genre is all the rage right now, and the studios are jumping all over that bandwagon. Having said that, the filmmakers of Beautiful Creatures have managed to craft this Twilight rip-off that not only proves better than Twilight, but ends up a thoroughly entertaining, if not altogether cheesy, piece of entertainment in its own right.
The story of Beautiful Creatures revolves around the concept of Casters, or as you and I know them, witches. While the backstory of the film is pretty convoluted, the primary story revolving around our lead, Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert), is relatively straightforward. Through a great deal of exposition, we learn that on Lena’s approaching 16th birthday birthday, she has the potential to instantly transform into a Dark or Light Caster, good or evil. This won’t be determined just by her true nature, but elements of her bloodline as well. Due to various plot mechanics, it is revealed that her transition could signify a mortal apocalypse, with Casters dominating the Earth. Unfortunately, shock of all shocks, she falls in love just before this pivotal moment, a forbidden love that could push her over the edge into the darkness.
While I found the film to be a great deal of fun throughout, there are two elements that elevate the material beyond the norm. The first of these is the location. Set in South Carolina, there is a sort of gothic lushness to the proceedings that is unusual in a film such as this. It’s all very backwoods but gorgeous, and I found it to be a beautiful location for the film. Beyond the visuals, this setting enabled the screenwriters to populate the film with several memorable characters embracing the worst characteristics of the South.
As explained by Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich), this is one of those overly religious towns, as demonstrated through their propensity for banning classic works of literature in the name of protecting the students. The juxtaposition between the judgmental condemnation of the holier-than-thou residents and the presumed evil of the Casters created an interesting dynamic and a heightened sense of tension throughout.
Of course, none of this would work if the performances weren’t up to the task, and there is some great work here. I mentioned before that there are two elements of the film that stood out for me, and the performances are the second. There isn’t a wasted role in the film, and everybody fully commits to their character. While nobody involved could be accused of subtlety, almost every performance elevates the material through sheer conviction. Particular standouts include Jeremy Irons, chewing the scenery with the best of them in his role of Lena’s uncle, Macon Ravenwood, Emmy Rossum as Lena’s cousin Ridley (who is already a Dark Caster), and especially Emma Thompson as Mrs. Lincoln, the overly righteous pillar of the community with a secret. Her performance is so over-the-top that it borders on camp, and I couldn’t imagine the role being interpreted any other way .
As with any love story, the film hinges on the chemistry between the two leads. Englert and Ehrenreich have a natural connection between them that makes their character’s relationship completely believable. On paper, the love story came on a little quick and could have used a bit more setup leading into it. However, these two work so well together, I was able to buy into the romance of the situation and accept that their love was that strong, that quick. Unlike in Twilight (last reference, I promise) where Bella and Edward seem off puttingly uncomfortable around each other, these two seem made for each other.
It’s a shame that the Blu-Ray extras aren’t more substantial. Rather than providing any insight into the film itself, almost all of the features are clip packages recapping certain thematic elements of the film the viewer just watched. There’s interesting little pieces here and there, such as a quick look at some of the effects work, but it’s almost all generic filler that does nothing to enhance the experience. Also included are some deleted scenes and theatrical trailers.
Not all of the special effects are great, and the story is highly derivative. However, their are some terrific set pieces (one involving a spinning dining room table comes to mind), some fun Civil War flashbacks and a lot of creativity overall. Unfortunately, the film didn’t do that well at the box-office, and that really is a shame. The film deserved more, and I definitely recommend at least a rental. This is a film made for teenage girls, and yet, as a man in his thirties, I am not ashamed to say that I enjoyed myself.
