The family-run ice cream company Salt & Straw opens its first Orange County scoop shop in Anaheim at the Downtown Disney District. Known for its taste-provoking flavors such as Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons, Pots of Gold & Rainbows and a dairy-free Freckled Mint TCHO-colate Chip, Salt & Straw offers a distinct and memorable ice cream experience that surprises, delights and brings guests together in community.
“It’s a dream come true to open a Salt & Straw in a celebratory setting that welcomes guests from all over the world,” said Kim Malek, who co-founded Salt & Straw with cousin and head ice cream maker Tyler Malek in 2011 in Portland, Ore. “That spirit is at the heart of our company, and we’re thrilled to serve our ice cream to this diverse audience of locals, families, and travelers.”
“We are excited to bring the unexpected flavors and exceptional hospitality of Salt & Straw to Downtown Disney,” said Brent Davies, General Manager, Downtown Disney District. “This location will offer another fresh, new and fun experience for our guests as part of the ongoing transformation of the Downtown Disney District.”
Salt & Straw worked closely with Andee Hess at the Portland-based Osmose Design to create an aesthetic that complements the shop’s one-of-a-kind experience that encourages guests to sample through the diverse flavors and share a special moment over ice cream. An abstract wooden totem pole composed of stacked scoops and cones greets guests at the door, while custom pieces such as handmade sculpted lighting fixtures and red-and-white-striped exterior panels recall the feel of a modern-day mercantile.

Salt & Straw has become a West Coast favorite with scoop shops in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle, in addition to its soft-serve dessert bar, Wiz Bang Bar, in Portland. Tyler’s inspired flavors are handmade in small batches using the best local, organic and sustainable ingredients, including cream from the family-owned Scott Brothers Dairy in Southern California. Each flavor is crafted with intention to tell a story about an artisanal product such as Dandelion chocolate, Sightglass Coffee and lavender from the Central Coast Lavender Farm & Apothecary in Paso Robles, California; a peak-season ingredient from a local farm or to commemorate an occasion or holiday through ice cream that evokes feelings of nostalgia and joy.
Special monthly offerings showcase that passion with flavors rooted in seasonality. In October, Salt & Straw’s classic line-up will be complemented by Tyler’s Spooktacular series with flavors such as The Great Candycopia and Candied Pumpkin Potion that celebrate the Halloween season. Guests can enjoy scoops on handmade waffle cones, with hot fudge and rainbow sprinkles, as well as pick up pints and cones to-go.
Outside their scoop shops, Salt & Straw is dedicated to supporting local schools and raising awareness for issues such as childhood hunger and equal rights. With the new Anaheim location, Salt & Straw expands this ongoing commitment to its new Orange County community.
