Marvel’s VisionQuest arrives on Disney+ on October 14, with the first two episodes premiering that day. We watched all eight episodes early — and we really liked what we saw. Here is our spoiler-free review.

The Story (Spoiler-Free)

Picking up after the events of WandaVision, VisionQuest follows White Vision — rebooted, carrying the memories of the Vision who loved Wanda, but struggling to feel them — as he searches for purpose and identity. What unfolds is part mystery, part road story, and part deeply personal reckoning with what it means to be human when you are made of vibranium and code.

Without spoiling anything: the series takes a big creative swing with its central concept — Vision’s mind as a physical space populated by the Stark AI personas absorbed into his programming, now walking around as human avatars. It is the kind of idea that sounds strange on paper and works beautifully on screen, giving the show an identity all its own within the MCU.

Surprises and Easter Eggs

This is where VisionQuest truly shines for longtime Marvel fans. The series is packed with surprises — genuine gasp moments we did not see coming — and easter eggs that reward nearly two decades of MCU viewing.

What impressed us most is that the references never feel like homework. Even the deep cuts serve the story being told, and newcomers can follow the emotional through-line without catching every nod. But if you have been here since Iron Man, you will be pausing and rewinding — and early reviews agree the easter egg hunt is half the fun.

Performances

Paul Bettany has never been better as Vision. Given far more to do than ever before, he carries the series’ biggest emotional swings and sells every one of them. James Spader’s Ultron is a revelation — Spader trades Age of Ultron‘s world-conquering menace for something far more personal — a broken, bitter presence whose scenes with Bettany crackle, giving Ultron the most compelling arc he’s ever had.

The supporting AI personas steal more scenes than you would expect — Emily Hampshire brings an adorable perkiness to E.D.I.T.H., James D’Arcy is perfect casting as J.A.R.V.I.S., and Orla Brady grounds F.R.I.D.A.Y. with real warmth. Ruaridh Mollica is a real find as Thomas Shepherd — his scenes with Bettany give the series its emotional anchor, and their chemistry sells some of the show’s most moving moments.

What Works

  • The central concept. The mindspace gives the series a visual and narrative identity all its own — surreal, thoughtful, and unlike anything else in the MCU.
  • The surprises. Genuinely unexpected turns that recontextualize what you thought you knew. We will not say more.
  • The easter eggs. A love letter to longtime fans, woven into the story rather than bolted on.
  • The emotional core. For a show about an android, it is deeply human — identity, memory, family, and what we owe the people who made us.

What Doesn’t

If we’re being picky — and we mean picky — the middle stretch eases off the gas a little, and with such a big ensemble of AI personas, a couple of them deserved more screen time than they got. Minor quibbles, though. Neither one slowed us down from tearing through all eight episodes.

Verdict

VisionQuest is a worthy conclusion to the trilogy that began with WandaVision — and honestly, one of the most surprising Marvel series in years. It is a mystery, a character study, and a treasure hunt for MCU fans all at once. If you loved WandaVision, this is essential viewing; if you just want smart, emotional sci-fi, it works on those terms too.

VisionQuest premieres October 14 on Disney+, with the first two episodes available at launch. This review is based on advance screeners of all eight episodes provided by Disney.
