Thrills and chills await Disneyland guests as the Haunted Mansion Holiday makes its much-anticipated return on July 29th! But there’s a twist: the attraction will be accessible exclusively through a virtual queue system.

What is the Haunted Mansion Holiday?

For those unfamiliar with the magic, the Haunted Mansion Holiday is a unique overlay of the classic Haunted Mansion attraction, inspired by Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Jack Skellington and his spooky friends from Halloween Town take over the mansion for a delightfully eerie holiday celebration. From the iconic gingerbread house in the ballroom to the festive décor throughout, this attraction is a beloved tradition for many Disneyland visitors.

Why a Virtual Queue?

While the mansion itself is ready to welcome guests, ongoing construction in the surrounding area necessitates the use of a virtual queue. This system aims to manage crowds and ensure a smoother experience for everyone.

How does the Virtual Queue work?

There are two opportunities each day to join the virtual queue:

  • 7:00 AM: Guests with a theme park reservation for Disneyland Park can request to join the virtual queue through the Disneyland app. This option is available to those with one-park tickets or Park Hopper tickets.
  • 12:00 PM (Noon): Guests already inside Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park (with a Park Hopper ticket) can request to join the virtual queue through the app.

Remember, each guest can only enter the virtual queue once per day.

Tips for Joining the Virtual Queue

  • Download the Disneyland App: Ensure you have the latest version of the Disneyland app installed on your phone and that your park tickets are linked to your Disney account.
  • Be Prepared: Set an alarm to remind yourself of the virtual queue opening times.
  • Act Fast: Demand is expected to be high, so be ready to request to join the queue as soon as it opens.
  • Check for Updates: Keep an eye on the app for updates on your queue status.

Theatre Review: CLUE Live on Stage

Do you think you may know whodunit? Take your vote in the lobby before entering the theater and be prepared for 80 minutes of suspense and laughter (there is no intermission, but you won’t miss it).

If you’re a fan of the 1985 film, the storyline will not come as a surprise. My friend who accompanied me to this production is a huge fan of the movie and was completely delighted at the performance.

The entire show is set in 1954, inside Boddy Manor, a mansion in New England. Six strangers have been invited to the mansion under pseudonyms by the master of the house, Mr. Boddy, for a common factor they will soon learn they share. The strangers, the housemaid, and the butler are quickly wrapped up in a whirlwind of deceit, hilarity, and murder.

This performance was fantastic! The entire production is a farcical comedy, with characters running in and out of rooms, and running in place to convey movement. With the characters having such over-the-top personalities, it was important that they be well-cast, and boy were they. The standout performances in terms of comedic timing and physicality were Mark Price (Wadsworth) and John Shartzer (Mr. Green)—each of them had me laughing until I almost cried.

However, each actor consistently got laughs for their antics, and I was honestly sad when it was over. There are plenty of references to the board game from which this play gets its name and theme, and overall it’s a delightful performance of wordplay, pratfalls, and rapid-fire comedy.

The set design was fairly simple, yet effective. With the entire show taking place within the mansion, there was only one primary practical backdrop. Additional rooms were created by moving other smaller set pieces in and out of the scene.

On-stage lighting with sconces and chandeliers was a very pleasing touch. Costumes were wonderfully designed and distinct, adding a lot to the caricatures being portrayed—each needing a very specific look to represent their namesakes.

Overall, this show is a must-see if you’re looking for a night of mystery and laughs. With some violent themes and the use of weapons, it may not be appropriate for smaller children, but it’s a great show for a night out or with older kids.

Brooding Sweeney Todd (Winston Peacock), a talented barber wrongfully exiled, returns to dreary London seeking vengeance against the corrupt Judge Turpin (Justin Ryan). With the aid of resourceful Mrs. Lovett (Jocelyn A. Brown), bakes victims into meat pies. Starry-eyed Anthony Hope (Dylan August), the young man who saved Sweeney’s life, becomes desperately in love with the beautiful yellow-haired Johanna Barker (Naya Ramsey-Clarke), Sweeney’s daughter and incidentally the judge’s ward. Both Sweeney and Anthony must be extra cautious around prowling Beadle Bamford (Abel Miramountes), the judge’s right-hand man and officer of the law.

Showy Adolfo Pirelli (Emmaniel Madera) loses a set of challenges to the skillful Sweeny. Youthful Tobias Ragg (Adam Leiva) is the dedicated aid to Pirelli. The wandering Beggar Woman (Laura M. Peter Pan at the Pantages: A Timeless Tale Reimagined

Do you believe in fairies? I’ll admit I was not familiar with this version of Peter Pan prior to this performance, having grown up on the Disney version. Similarly, it’s a tale of Peter Pan, a lost boy from the fantasy world of Neverland, and his encounter with the three Darling children who are feeling unseen by their busy parents. Lured by the promise of adventure, and Wendy’s need to be seen as a nurturer, John, Michael, and Wendy Darling set off from their bedroom to fly second star to the right, and straight on until morning to the world of Neverland.

In Neverland, familiar tensions are rising as Peter Pan, Tiger Lily, and Captain Hook each feel they have the sole right to control the land. The Darling children provide some shallow perspective to the groups, allowing Peter Pan and Tiger Lily to forge an unlikely partnership to banish Captain Hook and the pirates from Neverland once and for all.

This production is updated in many ways from the 1954 version, modernizing for a newer audience. This is apparent before the performance begins as the show makes a point to acknowledge the original tribe that occupied the land on which the theater sits—In the case of the Hollywood Pantages, the Gabrieleños.

Wendy begins the show using an iPad to film what we assume is a TikTok dance and speaks of her aspirations to become a surgeon when she grows up. Tiger Lily and her tribe are portrayed as Indigenous people just wanting to maintain their sense of culture and heritage in Neverland.

There was no shortage of children in the audience, who were very eager to see this musical. The production offered the color and life to excite the imaginations of children and new theatergoers, but for those familiar with theater or the story of Peter Pan, there may be a struggle to connect with the production. For me, the beginning especially fell flat, feeling more like a community theater production than one that’s touring along with other Broadway productions. The most distracting thing for me was the nursery scene with Peter Pan trying to find his shadow.

The frontal spotlighting was such that Peter had a clear and obvious shadow throughout the search and the process of sewing his own back on him. Dialogue delivered early in the show felt a little forced. Some of the sense of adventure I hoped I would feel in the audience felt lost, as even Captain Hook did not feel at all like a menacing villain who was even capable of taking down Peter Pan or Tiger Lily.

Tinkerbell is represented as a light that flits across stage, whose dialogue is only understood by the characters, but not the audience. Her near-death experience fell emotionally flat, resulting in a very lackluster applause effort from the audience to bring her back to life—but ultimately, we did decide to believe in fairies.

That being said, the performances themselves were very good. Nolan Almeida (Peter Pan) has a great singing voice and energy, effortlessly balancing the naivety and faux confidence of his character. Vocally, Raye Zaragoza (Tiger Lily) was a standout, her first few notes made me raise my eyebrows because of how clear her tone is.

The comedic chemistry of Cody Garcia (Captain Hook) and Kurt Perry (Smee) was so organic and genuinely laugh-out-loud, especially in addition to the farcical antics of the rest of the pirate band. I also enjoyed the whimsy of the musical numbers, both in musical performance and choreography. Flying sequences were as expected, but Peter Pan’s arrival in the nursery is a very exciting moment in the show.

The practical set design was beautiful, and helped aid the suspension of disbelief needed to feel that numerous children were able to fight off pirates in a land where fairies exist, and humans can fly just by thinking of lovely thoughts. Most of the action sequences, however, relied heavily on projections which was contradictorily both visually stunning, but also lacked depth and imagination.

Conductor Jonathan Marro did absolutely right by Morris (Moose) Charlap and Jule Styne, ensuring a warmth and energy to the scoring and music that allowed for the musical numbers to shine.

The warm fuzzies come in Act II as Wendy suddenly realizes she misses home, and offers the lost boys to accompany her, John, and Michael back home so their parents can raise them too; an unrealistic but charming solution to the Lost Boys’ desperation to find a mother. It is here, after experiencing the temporary loss of his children, where Mr. Darling realizes that his family is more important than his work he’s been so devoted to until this point. Wendy waits her whole life to see Peter Pan again, and once he finally returns, it’s her daughter, Jane, who gets to experience the adventure this time.\

Overall, this is a fun performance to bring your children to, but for adults, it may lack the depth that you hope to feel in terms of loss, longing, and danger. The children in the audience were jumping excitedly on their way out of the theater discussing their favorite aspects of the production with their families.

Ultimately, the children still feeling a sense of awe and adventure while the adults felt somewhat disconnected is in line with Peter Pan’s message about the importance of never growing up—making this production, and the takeaways from it, a family night out that will not be regretted.

The Walt Disney Company Store is making its first appearance at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event with not one, but two locations on the show floor. The Walt Disney Company Store in Hall D will feature new merchandise from The Walt Disney Studios, the Walt Disney Archives, and The Walt Disney Company. From The Walt Disney Studios, guests will enjoy a collaboration with Loungefly featuring a Studio Patches Canvas Backpack, as well as a crossbody bag highlighting the renowned Team Disney building that includes a Disney Legends Award detachable coin purse.

The Walt Disney Archives assortment will include a Studio Baseball League Jersey and The Walt Disney Company collection will include a stylish denim jacket, collegiate ivory tee, and sleek 16”computer sleeve. This location will also feature collectible figurines depicting iconic locations across The Walt Disney Studios Lot, including the Partners Statue, Sharing the Magic Statue, Pluto’s Corner Sign, and Water Tower. This location will be cashless. In collaboration with D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, The Walt Disney Company Store will now be home to the official merchandise for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Mickey’s of Glendale, the Walt Disney Imagineering store, returns to D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, with two stores in Hall C of the Anaheim Convention Center. This year at Mickey’s of Glendale, fans will find numerous collections featuring the work and talent of Disney Imagineers. These unique spotlight collections are inspired by Disney characters, theme park attractions, and more. Shop wickedly cute Disney Villain enamel figures or dive into the comic book world of Walt Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Mickey’s of Glendale Pin Store
Disney pin enthusiasts will want to stop by the Mickey’s of Glendale Pin Store, which will release a new assortment of limited-edition pins daily on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Mickey’s of Glendale Pin Store will be cashless and require guests to have the Disneyland app downloaded to their smartphone device to make a purchase. Come prepared and have the app downloaded and account created ahead of time.

The magic of Hollywood returns to Anaheim at the Disney Studio Store Hollywood, located in Hall B, where guests can purchase newly released limited-edition pins, framed pin sets, and official Disney Studio Store Hollywood branded apparel. New limited-edition pins will be released on Friday and Saturday. While at this location, guests can stop by and snap a selfie in a sweet photo op! The Disney Studio Store Hollywood will be cashless.

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event will also have more fan-favorite brands and shopping opportunities than ever before throughout the show floor. Fans will find new and D23-exclusive merchandise including mini backpacks, keychains, and pins from Loungefly; a lab-grown Mickey Mouse pendant from Pandora; event-branded charms from RockLove Jewelry; and pieces featuring Disney Princess and Villain characters from Enchanted Disney Fine Jewelry.

Fans will also see Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars-inspired watches from Citizen Watch and the limited-edition Infinity Gem Collection from East Continental Gems. Brands including Cakeworthy, RSVLTS, Rock ‘Em Socks, BoxLunch, and Her Universe will have new, event-exclusive, and first-to-purchase apparel for sale. Fans of Disney Lorcana TCG will have access to a limited-edition D23 Collection set at Ravensburger’s booth on the show floor, and Hallmark will have a Keepsake Ornament. HOW TO SHOP

Disney is dedicated to making the fan shopping experience seamless and is excited to announce the return of merchandise mobile checkout and virtual queue at select locations. Both services will be available through a direct link from the Disney D23 app to the Disneyland app.

The Disney D23 app is currently available for download on the app store for iOS and Android devices and an update coming soon will add functionality to help guests navigate all the entertainment, presentations, shopping, photo opportunities, and magic that Disney has in store at this year’s event. The Disneyland app is currently available for download on the app store for iOS and Android devices. Many locations are cashless venues and will only accept a credit or debit card.

Fans will have the opportunity to explore the show floor while waiting to shop by signing up for a “boarding group” with virtual queue on the Disneyland app through the Disney D23 app and receive a notification when it’s their turn to shop. Joining the virtual queue does not grant immediate access to any experience, and there may still be a queue and waiting period at the location. The virtual queue is limited in capacity and subject to availability.

Guests will be able to access the D23 Marketplace, The Walt Disney Company Store, The Walt Disney Company Pin Store, Mickey’s of Glendale (Friday only), Mickey’s of Glendale Pin Store, and Disney Studio Store Hollywood (Friday and Saturday only) only via virtual queue. Virtual queue will be required to shop at these locations starting when the event opens at 9 AM PT each day.

There will be no stand-by queues available in the mornings, but stand-by opportunities may be available later in the afternoon each day if all virtual queue boarding groups have been recalled. All merchandise is subject to availability and inventory may sell out. The number of items per purchase will be limited. Traditional queuing is available at locations not utilizing virtual queue.

Save time while shopping by paying for items using the Disneyland app at select locations. Simply scan each item’s barcode to add it to a shopping bag and pay for items by selecting “Purchase.” Once a purchase is complete, show the QR code confirmation to a Cast Member at the merchandise mobile checkout station to scan before exiting the store. A digital receipt will be sent to the email address linked to the Disneyland app, and all eligible discounts will be automatically applied. The merchandise mobile checkout service is available in addition to traditional checkout services.

The Falcon, played by Mackie in previous MCU films, officially took on the mantle of Captain America in the finale of “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” on Disney+ in 2021.

After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.
