Disney Songs Reimagined by Country Music’s Biggest Stars

Disney

Disney has announced an all-new country EP titled Main Street Country, bringing together award‑winning artists to reimagine iconic Disney songs through a genre rooted in storytelling, heart, and emotional connection. Following the success of the pop punk Disney cover album, A Whole New Sound, Main Street Country, releasing April 3 on Walt Disney Records, is the latest in the Mickey & Friends music series featuring several of the genre’s biggest stars, including Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown, Restless Road, Dasha, Maddie & Tae, and BRELAND.

Also Revealed was the original cover art for the album, featuring Mickey & Friends in a new country style, as well as the incredible track list featuring beloved songs that reflect the heart of Disney.

“Our whole family is captivated by the magic of Disney and we go every year for our daughter Kingsley’s birthday,” shares Kane Brown. “It truly is a dream come true for Kane and I to sing ‘Beauty & The Beast’ together and to be part of such an amazing legacy,” shares Katelyn Brown.

MAIN STREET COUNTRY TRACKLIST APRIL

Walt Disney Records’ Main Street Country track list includes:

  1. “Beauty and the Beast” from Beauty and the Beast (1991) by Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown — An elegant reimagining of the Grammy®, Oscar®, and Golden Globe® award‑winning ballad from the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic, highlighting the enduring power of love woven throughout the song through the duo’s heartfelt and intimate performance.
  2. “The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009) by Restless Road — Originally performed by Disney Legend Miley Cyrus, the trio delivers a heartfelt rendition of the beloved anthem with rich harmonies and emotional storytelling, inspiring fans to keep moving forward and embrace the journey.
  3. “She’s So Gone” from Lemonade Mouth (2011) by Dasha — Bringing her own voice and modern country storytelling to the fan‑favorite song from the Disney Channel Original Movie, Dasha delivers an empowering performance that encourages listeners to be brave and celebrate who they are.
  4. “You’ll Be in My Heart” from Tarzan (1999) by Maddie & Tae — Originally performed by Disney Legend Phil Collins, the duo offers a warm and emotionally resonant interpretation of the song that pulls at the heartstrings, telling this story in a way that feels true to country music while honoring a song that spent 19 weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart.
  5. “Go the Distance” from Hercules (1997) by BRELAND — A classic melody infused with a country twist, BRELAND reintroduces the beloved song from the Walt Disney Animation Studios film in a way listeners will instantly recognize and stays true to the heart, determination, and purpose at the core of the song that originally reached #1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart and #24 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

“Getting to sing one of our favorite Disney songs feels like coming full circle for us,” said Maddie Font and Tae Kerr. “We grew up on these soundtracks, so to be able to contribute to Disney’s legacy is surreal. And knowing this is one of our final releases together as Maddie & Tae makes it even more meaningful. It feels like we’re honoring the little girls we were, and the magical journey we’ve been on together.”

Mickey Mouse and his friends Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Goofy are enthusiastic fans of country music and are excited to bring an EP that blends nostalgia with a modern country twist. As cultural icons long intertwined with music and popular culture, Mickey & Friends continue to show their fandom for music with Main Street Country.

“I think ‘She’s So Gone’ is one of the most iconic songs to come out of Disney Channel,” declares Dasha. “I remember watching Lemonade Mouth for the first time and the whole movie had me plotting how I was going to reinvent myself before school the next day. This track really captures that moment when women find themselves and boldly show the world who they are. I’m so excited to share this with a new generation and remind them that they can reinvent themselves and be exactly who they want to be.”

This EP is another expression of how Mickey & Friends continue to show up in mainstream culture. Much like how fans got to celebrate racing, entertainment, and fashion through the Formula 1® “Fuel the Magic” campaign, Mickey and his friends are now celebrating their love for country music and making sure Disney fans come along for the ride by bringing together award-winning artists who love to tell meaningful stories through music.

Restless Road credit Robby Klein

“Being part of Main Street Country feels like stepping into a story we grew up believing in,” shares Restless Road members Zach Beeken, Garrett Nichols, and Colton Pack. “We’ve always chased songs that feel honest, hopeful, and rooted in real life—and we couldn’t imagine a better one than ‘The Climb.’ Bringing our sound into the world of Disney that celebrates imagination, family, and timeless storytelling is surreal in the best way. It’s an incredible honor to represent country music in a space that reaches so many ears and hearts.”

Mutually rooted in the tradition of storytelling, country music and Disney are a magical musical collaboration. Mickey Mouse has a long history with western and Americana culture, dating back to early animated shorts and continuing through themed appearances and costumes across Disney Parks.

“I grew up a bona fide Disney kid, and as the child of two gospel singers, the Hercules soundtrack always really spoke to me,” shares BRELAND. “Getting to create some of that same Disney magic that shaped my childhood while recording ‘Go the Distance’ with a live string section is easily one of the most special things I’ve done as an artist.”

Starting now, music fans can pre-order the exclusive vinyl releasing May 15, 2026 HERE.

A Family Escape to The Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California

Torrey Pines

You don’t have to be a golfer to fall in love with one of Southern California’s classiest and most iconic resorts. The only thing you need is an appreciation for sweeping ocean views and sunsets that seem to melt into the horizon. Such is life at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, where the family and I recently spent three wonderful days and two blissful nights.

Overlooking the world‑renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course and the shimmering Pacific Ocean, this AAA Five Diamond resort blends world‑class dining, a full‑service spa, and warm, attentive service into a luxurious and exciting getaway. It is the kind of place that instantly slows your pulse and puts you in vacation mode.

pic
Suites at the resort are luxurious and come with teepees for kids

Our family’s stay at the resort began in the lobby, where grand wooden beams, handcrafted furniture, and a massive stone fireplace welcomed us with cozy charm. We then checked into a gorgeous suite, overlooking the ocean.

Spacious and serene, the room featured two large queen beds dressed in Egyptian cotton linens and quilted duvets, a giant TV, mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The granite and marble bathroom—with its oversized bathtub and warm Craftsman accents—felt like a private spa. But the real showstopper was the balcony. Huge, furnished, and overlooking the Pacific, it became our favorite place for morning coffee and sunset wine.

Since we were traveling with our two young kids, the staff surprised us with a small teepee set up right in the middle of the room. This instantly became their hideaway—perfect for watching TV, snacking, or just giggling together. It was a thoughtful touch that made the stay more special.

Outside the room, we explored the lush and beautiful grounds, with winding paths, native plants, and glimpses of the ocean peeking through the trees. Tucked in the middle of the property is the pool area, where we spent much of our time. Here, the kids made instant friends and spent hours splashing around while we enjoyed a leisurely lunch under the warm sun. It quickly became our daytime home base.

pic
The resort grounds are lined with lush paths and green grass

Besides luxurious accommodations, the lodge is also known for exceptional dining. The Grill at Torrey Pines, with panoramic views of the golf course and a custom wood‑burning rotisserie, became a go‑to spot. For breakfast we savored bacon and eggs, along with a big, delicious breakfast burrito, with eggs, sausage, potatoes and beans. The kids devoured fluffy buttermilk pancakes, a Belgian waffle with honey pecan butter, and more maple syrup than I care to admit.

After breakfast my son and I played a round of golf at the resort and then the whole family drove a couple miles to La Jolla Shores Beach. This beautiful, sandy beach is approximately 1 mile long, features a playground on the sand, and it is adjacent to the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve. Many novice scuba classes are held at La Jolla Shores. The previous time we were at the beach, we saw scores of harmless leopard sharks swimming through the waves.

La Jolla Shores Beach features a park, lots of sand and gentle waves for the whole family

After playing at the beach, we headed back to The Lodge at Torrey Pines for a lunch of burgers and fried calamari at The Grill. We then relaxed by the pool until dinner.

For supper we shared seared albacore tuna with asparagus and Meyer lemon relish, followed by a rich red wine braised lamb shank served with carrot risotto and fresh spring vegetables. The kids stuck to the classics—chicken tenders and a big, juicy hamburger. For dessert, we all split homemade ice cream and warm cookies.

The Grill at Torrey Pines offers great breakfast and dinner items, with awesome views

After dinner, we wandered along the resort’s lush pathways, watching the sky fade from gold to deep purple and listening to the waves crashing on the rocks below.

The next morning I worked out in the state-of-the-art fitness center and relaxed in the sauna at the resort’s world‑class Spa at Torrey Pines. From here, I joined the kids for a game of croquet on the lawn. This big green space also doubles as an unforgettable spot for weddings, as it overlooks the oceans and the bluffs of La Jolla.

pic
Croquet on the lawn is great family fun

We then explored more of the property. What makes The Lodge especially captivating is its sense of history and craftsmanship. Modeled after the iconic Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena, the resort is a tribute to early 1900s Craftsman architecture. Everywhere you look, there are thoughtful details: handcrafted woodwork, stained glass, stonework, and warm earth tones that echo the natural beauty outside.

pic
The lobby and resort is a tribute to early 1900s Craftsman architecture

Even the trees surrounding the property have a story. Torrey pines are among the rarest pine species in the world, growing only in La Jolla and on Santa Rosa Island. They survive in desert conditions by drawing moisture from coastal fog, and their five‑needle fascicles help them pull water from the air. Walking among them feels like stepping into a living museum of California’s natural history.

pic
Torrey Pines Golf Course attracts players from around the world

And then, of course, there’s the golf. Torrey Pines Golf Course is legendary—a 36‑hole municipal course originally designed by William F. Bell and later updated by Rees Jones for the 2008 U.S. Open. The South Course stretches 7,698 yards, while the North Course spans 7,258 yards, both offering jaw‑dropping ocean views. Even if you’re not a golfer, watching players tee off against the backdrop of the Pacific is mesmerizing.

Theatre Review: Monty Python’s Spamalot

Spamalot

Whether you grew up watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail, or if this will be your first foray into anything Monty Python… Monty Python’s SPAMALOT, playing now at The Pantages Theatre is an absolute must-see!

Monty Python’s SPAMALOT is a “musical lovingly ripped off from” the 1975 comedy film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, though for all the things taken verbatim from the film, there are plenty of new hilarious character arcs and characters to bring a fresh energy to the story while maintaining the farcical silliness you expect from anything Monty Python. The musical still tells the comically incorrect version of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, as they venture on a God-given quest to find the Holy Grail. But will they find the Grail? Is the Grail just a metaphor? Is the Grail really the friends we’ve made along the way? This show may just inspire you to find your grail.

L R Blake Segal and Major Attaway in the North American Tour of SPAMALOT Photo by Matthew Murphy and Evan Zimmerman baec

First and foremost, what a cast! Many of the actors play multiple roles in the show. Chris Collins-Pisano was amazing, especially in his roles as The French Taunter and Sir Lancelot, both with starkly different characterizations, but both earning huge laughs from the audience. His performances in “Run Away” as The French Taunter was hilarious, but his physical comedy in “His Name is Lancelot” truly showcased his comedic range.

Sean Bell was wonderful as Sir Robin, portraying the hilariously uncomfortable awkwardness, yet warmness that you expect from a character who gravely misunderstood his assignment as a Knight. “You Won’t Succeed on Broadway”, one of two jabs at the theater industry, gained the same initially uncomfortable laughs earned from songs in Avenue Q and Book of Mormon, but by the end, Bell’s performance had the audience roaring. Blake Segal is wonderful as Patsy, with sharp comedy, and delightful vocals. Major Attaway shines like a crown as King Arthur, with dry comedic timing, facial expressions you could see from the rear orchestra, and an amazing vocal performance, he was phenomenal.

(L R) Claire Kennard Lindsay Lee Alhady Major Attaway Delaney Benson and Meridien Terrell in the North American Tour of SPAMALOT Photo by Matthew Murphy and Evan Zimmerman

The standout, hands down, is Amanda Robles as The Lady of the Lake. Robles’ vocal performances were unbelievable, with a range of notes and styles that truly built the comedy of the character. Her comedic solo at the end of “Knights of the Round Table”, and her soprano work in “Diva’s Lament” were gold. Robles offers the perfect balance of grace, glamour, and slapstick that got the audience cheering each time her character walked out on stage.

Aside from it being clear that the performers were genuinely enjoying themselves playing these roles, the interactions they periodically had breaking the fourth wall with the audience and the orchestra were a delight. Even SPAMALOT Orchestra Director, Jonathan W. Gorst, Associate Director Shane Ffrench, and Drummer Brandon Wong had opportunities to create funny moments throughout the performance.

Sean Bell and Ensemble in the North American Tour of SPAMALOT Photo by Matthew Murphy and Evan Zimmerman ecbce

The set consists primarily of one practical castle facade and projections, and they go a long way. Scenic and Production designer Paul Tate dePoo III and Lightning designer Cory Pattak were able to create many locations and scenes with very few moving parts, which was both visually stunning and ensured transitions kept up with the pace of the comedy.
Overall, this is a wonderful show and whether this is your first time experiencing Monty Python or your 400th, Monty Python’s SPAMALOT shall not be missed or you may just have to face the knights who say “Ni!”

Spamalot is performing until April 12. For more info and tickets click here.

Theatre Review: SIX at Hollywood Pantages

Tasia Jungbauer as Catherine Parr in The North American Tour Boleyn Company of SIX Photo by Joan Marcus r fcbe

YAAAAS QUEEN! SIX, now playing at the Hollywood Pantages, is always a triumph. The HERstorical retelling of the individual stories and fates of the six wives of King Henry VIII brings with it amazing costumes, delightfully, catchy songs, and a phenomenal cast of talented women. Set up as a vocal competition to see which wife actually had it the worst, the audience experience felt more like that of a rock concert than a musical.

This is the first performance at Pantages I have been to where I noted the usher‘s held up signs that asked patrons to not sing along during the performance. This is understandable, as every single song is so catchy and good.

The North American Tour Boleyn Company of SIX Photo by Joan Marcus r fcc

In terms of performance, Emma Elizabeth Smith (Catherine of Aragon) was a fantastic singer doing an amazing job to kick off the competition with a high energy performance of “No Way”. And Nella Cole’s (Anne Boleyn) rendition of “Don’t Lose Ur Head” was certainly a showstopper, with its comedy and innuendo and her joy was felt through her performance. “Heart of Stone” performed by Kelly Denice Taylor (Jane Seymour) was hauntingly beautiful with riffs that got cheers. “Haus of Holbein” brought the hausdown as a hilarious pallet cleanser that had everyone dancing along.

Hailey Alexis Lewis (Anne of Cleves) performed “Get Down” with such strong feminine energy that the audience was screaming and applauding. With vocal ability, they certainly saved the best for last. Tasia Jungbauer (Catherine Parr) brought insane riffs and strength to “I Don’t Need Your Love”. Her stage presence was notably powerful, and she was the stand out by far. This entire cast is just phenomenal and I want to go back to this tour again before it’s gone.

The North American Tour Boleyn Company of SIX Photo by Joan Marcus r dadc

Song by song, the music of SIX is very diverse in style, and the wonderfully talented four-piece all-female band was amazing. The band is on stage with the queens, which creates a playful opportunity for interaction between the musicians and the queens. Music Director, and Keyboardist Valerie Maze delighted the audience with the range from rock piano, to techno, to traditional Tudor harpsichord.

Divorced, Beheaded, BUY tickets to see SIX before it splits and heads to its next city, you will never forget your time spent with the queens.

Theatre Review: “Once” Musical at Chance Theater

Once

The play with music, “Once” arrives at the Chance Theater in Anaheim to serenade your soul and brighten up the sky. Based on the Academy Award winning 2007 movie written and directed by John Carney. Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Book in 2012. Winner of the 2013 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Less than the typical expectations of musicals where actors spontaneously slip into song and dance to advance the story and characters forward.

ore of a dramatic play with actors performing songs just as you would find in the real world. Characters are singing in the street for tips, at a live mic nite, reading from a music sheet, listening and playing in the bedroom, putting words to music to make a song, auditioning for roles, playing at a recording studio, and more. The incredible line up of actors not only challenged to speak in dialects of Irish and Czech, but also playing live folk rock style musical instruments on stage.

Once ()

In the city of Dublin, Irish busker Guy (Morgan Hollingsworth) is pulled back into the world of music by Czech immigrant Girl (Emma Laird). Guy and Girl share a bond over their love of music. Guy feels down on his luck while working for his father (Lex Leigh) as a vacuum cleaner repairman. Girl is confident Guy’s new song “Falling Slowly” will win back the affections of his Ex-girlfriend (Leota Rhodes) who ended their relationship and moved to New York City. Girl lives with her mother, Baruska (Jennifer Richardson) and daughter, Ivanka (Amy Sorensen/Becca Last).

Girl’s rough marriage prevents her from pursuing a deeper connection with Guy. With the aid of a bank manager (Mike Bradecich) and Girl’s friends like music shop owner, Billy (Will Huse), they write and record music to create an album.

The impeccable caliber of multi-talented performers is an incredible display of the versatility and passion brought to the intimate stage. Raw vocals, pure depth, authentic to the core, emotional acoustics, and stirring a capella.  Incredibly phenomenal from start to finish. Actors perform center stage and visibly to the side with instruments ranging from guitar, piano, bass, Cajon, violin, cello, harmonica, mandolin, accordion, ukelele, and drums.

Once ()

This production handles the speaking and singing of the Czech language in a fascinating method. I’ve only seen projected subtitles used in one other show of “Kim’s Convenience”. Some scenes are written to be spoken in Czech. But Czech instead is projected on the walls above the characters as the actors continue to speak in English. Fortunately this is quickly understood what is spoken and heard in the context of the story. A clever and powerful use of video projections like the rest of the show that enhances rather than diminish the experience.

Unbeatable journey through the power of music. Remarkable experience of story with music rather than a musical story. Listening to “Falling Slowly” for the first time was a real special treat. An earworm I will have no trouble listening on repeat. For those already familiar, the live rendition is beautifully unmatched. The “Shallow” to “A Star Is Born” (2018).

Once ()

Along with a world-class team working behind the scenes with direction, scenic design, dialect, lighting, sound, and more, the Chance Theater proves itself again as a stellar gem in the Orange County theater community when it comes to meaingful and provocative stage productions. A profound follow-up to last year’s “Spring Awakening”. Be sure to arrive 25 minutes before showtime with a drink in hand as the engaging actors perform an infectiously energetic and interactive pre-show you won’t want to miss.

“Once” is playing at the Chance Theater in Anaheim beginning January 23 until March 2, 2026. Book by Enda Walsh. Music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. Directed and choreographed by James Michael McHale. Music directed by Lex Leigh. For more information including ticket sales, visit www.chancetheater.com

Theater Review: Sweeney Todd

SWEENEY TODD

“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” makes the cut at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.  McCoy Rigby Entertainment brings to life another piping hot musical production of haunting chills and musical thrills that will put the audience on the edge of their seat for all the right reasons. The professional level of scrumptious casting, sharp choreography, delectable vocals, superb costuming, edgy sets, crisp sound, and dramatic lighting demonstrate an exuberance of passion and dedication bestowed in this invigorating revival.

“Sweeney Todd” is not only my favorite Stephen Sondheim musical, but I can safely say is now my favorite production at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. The entire cast and crew managed to put all the right ingredients together to bake a practically perfect theatrical experience. Direction by Jason Alexander (Seinfeld, Pretty Woman, Fiddler on the Roof) makes all the difference I didn’t believe would be possible. I am so woefully thankful and grateful for being able to attend this show of scale and magnitude. This was one of my most anticipated shows, and it did not not disappoint. Left me in awe when I didn’t think I could be anymore than I have been.

SWEENEY TODD

The two main leads are highly praised in their respective field. Playing Sweeney Todd is Tony Award nominee Will Swenson (A Beautiful Noise, Hair, Les Miserables, Jekyll & Hyde). Bringing a heartbroken gravitas to the role. Playing Mrs. Lovett is Olivier award winner Lesli Margherita (Gypsy, Zorro, Little Shop of Horrors, Dames at Sea). Bringing a familiar yet distinctive flair making the character delightfully her own. There is no shortage of peak talent and engaging chemistry as these Will Swenson and Lesli Margherita together on stage.

Attend the dark, witty, and Tony Award-winning tale of love, murder, and revenge set against the backdrop of 19th century London. “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” has become a bloody, worldwide sensation since being awarded eight Tony Awards (including Best Musical) for its Broadway premiere in 1979. Unjustly framed and exiled barber Sweeney Todd (Will Swenson) returns to London seeking vengeance against the lecherous Judge Turpin (Norman Large) and his corrupt accomplice Beadle Bamford (Nicholas Mongiardo-Cooper).

SWEENEY TODD

The road to revenge leads Sweeney Todd to Mrs. Lovett (Lesli Margherita), the resourceful propriestress of a failing pie shop above which he opens a new barber practice. Sweeney Todd’s daughter Johanna (Allison Sheppard) was precariously taken as the ward of Judge Turpin after ravaging his young wife in Sweeney’s absence. A young sailor named Anthony (Chris Hunter) has unbeknowingly fallen desperately in love with the yellow haired Johanna (Allison Sheppard). Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett attempt to lure the Judge into a trap by challenging rival Italian barber Pirelli (Andrew Polec) to a contest of skill.

Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up for more… and the carnage has only just begun! Matters become more complicated when Pirelli’s servant boy Tobias (Austyn Myers) and the local Beggar Woman (Meghan Andrews) sense suspicious mischief.

SWEENEY TODD

If you’ve seen the show before, you haven’t seen it like this. Phenomenal dialouge delivery that would play off differently if not for the meticulous direction. The dark humor hits the right spot and time. Even managing to slide in extra laughs unique to this production. Exquisite choreography blending the ensemble with principle characters and menacing presence with the impressive set pieces. Enthralling sound from the live vocals and orchestra completes a clear audio experience that can never be replicated from streaming a movie at home.

Brilliant twists and tweaks of familiar troupes specific to the show but with a breath of freshness. Instead of opening the musical with Sweeney’s ghostly victims, the patients of the asylum brought to the forefront. Repositioning The Overseer (Jeff Lowe) reminiscing the ghastly events. Genius play on visuals filling an empty stage with more depth than may have originally been envisioned.

SWEENEY TODD

Portraying characters back on stage respectively coinciding with “Pretty Woman” evokes a striking and dreamy state. Acknowledging paying tribute to the use of “blood petals” from another production proves so much creativity is still open to interpretation from the same source material. I’m happy to see that alive and well through live theater.

Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Book by Hugh Wheeler, from an adaptation by Christopher Bond, originally directed on Broadway by Harold Prince, orchestration by Jonathan Tunick. Musical direction by Darryl Archibald. Choreography by Lee Martino. Direction by Tony Award winner Jason Alexander.

You’re going to want more than a second serving. “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” is playing at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts from January 30 to February 22, 2026. For more information including ticket sales, visit https://lamiradatheatre.com/

Theatre Review: The Notebook – The Musical

The Notebook

“The Notebook – The Musical” exceeds in beautiful ways as a sentimental, refreshing, and ageless musical adaptation of one of the most undeniably popular romantic stories ever told. Even the hardest critics of the 2004 movie will have a hard time denying the enthralling appeal of the musical. Many questionable acts and toxic behaviors from the movie gets smoothed over or absent to streamline the fragility of a older couple’s relationship barely holding together.

“The Notebook – The Musical” has more skillful balance transitioning from one medium over another compared to the likes of “Pretty Woman”.  The pieces of memories flowing in, slipping out, and merging like a cross fade blends lovingly thanks to the choreography visually enhancing the already stellar music and spiritual lyrics. Those missing elements from the movie were quickly forgotten and not missed or compromised the core integrity of the beloved characters and engaging story.

Notebook fbf

“The Notebook – The Musical” is set on a coastal town in the Mid-Atlantic in a senior home. Older Noah (Beau Gravitte) reads aloud from a notebook a love story to an Older Allie (Sharon Catherine Brown). The story shifts in time from the late 1960s with Younger Noah (Kyle Mangold) and Younger Allie (Chloe Cheers) as their romance blossoms and grows over the summer. Their love is not approved by Allie’s Mother (Anne Tolpegin) nor her Father (Jerome Harmann-Hardeman).

They see Noah as not right for their daughter being from a lower working class and not up to their standards seeing what is best for their daugther. The years separate the young lovers. The late 1970s sees Middle Noah (Jesse Corbin) return home rebuilding the dream home the couple spoke about. Middle Allie (Alysha Deslorieux) moved on engaged to Lon (Nick Brogan). Lon is just the right man Allie’s parents have dreamed their daughter would marry.

The gorgeous soundtrack is highlighted with countless melodies and words that will rain tears of “Sadness and Joy” down many cheeks. The hopeful romantic stands as a beacon in the empty darkness still willing to “Leave the Light On” for the one that got away. Unrecognizable faces from the past and present stirs up agonizing frustration. “I Wanna Go Back” to before the memories started to fade and left lost feeling alone again. Choreography synonymous with the song of faces fading away. “Kiss Me” is funny yet relatable inner thoughts running a mile a minute concerned of appearances yet yearning for the other. Sensual romance.

Notebook caca

“Forever” burning infatuation cooled down with rain. In this case, real water poured over the couple during the rainfall. Projections would not have done this iconic scene justice . A choreographed lift moment more than makes up for lowly watercraft. “My Days” is the major solo stand out. The starry eyed woman needing to clear mind away from what others want for her  figuring out what see wants for yourself. A new favorite Broadway song I can listen to over and over again.

Minor roles get minor time on stage just enough to get the point across. They are part of the story, not part of the journey.  The set design is also minimal. There’s no need for grand scales for such an intimate tale. The majority of time spent is with the main couples throughout different time periods. Because multiple actors are playing the same character, having less exposure with minor characters actually help the story be less cumbersome. The couple is funneled and focused to the mainstream mindset. The main obstacle belongs to time and memory.

Notebook fed

Less moments with minor characters also means less cringe moments from those that remember the movie version. In fact, any musical lover can walk into the story without any previous knowledge and enjoy it for what it is. A slight setback is the depiction of Young Noah as nasally and whiny seemed out of place attempting to sound younger. But still has a graceful singing voice.

In the end, the young couple still only knew each other for one summer but strong enough to last for decades. Some may find that unrealistic and impractical. But who really knows everything about love and how it works? Every love is different and not the same like the other. This is not your love story, it’s theirs. Tissue boxes are ready for purchase to take to your seat.

“The Notebook – The Musical” is playing at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, California from January 6 – January 25, 2026. Music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson. Book by Bekah Brunstetter. Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks. Choreography by Katie Spelman. Directed by Michael Grief and Schele Williams
