Knott's Soak City Water Park Opens For The 2014 Season on Saturday, May 17

Knotts_Soak_City_9

Summer fun is just around the corner at the 13-acre water wonder world, Knott’s Soak City. Adjacent to the world-famous Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park, the water park will open for the season May 17 through September 14.

Soak City is Southern California’s prominent water park with a theme inspired by beach and surf towns of the 1950’s Orange and Los Angeles County coast. Water slides and attractions at Knott’s Soak City pay tribute to the area’s rich surfing heritage with names like Malibu Run and Laguna Storm Watch Tower. And like those at Knott’s Theme Park, the rides and attractions at Knott’s Soak City are truly world-class.

Pacific Spin is Soak City’s most action-packed water adventure to date, carrying 700 passengers per hour at a maximum speed of 35 feet per second! This thrilling multi-person raft ride includes a 132-foot long tunnel that drops its riders 75 feet into a six-story funnel. After pitching riders back and forth through 5,500 gallons of swirling water, the ride culminates in a waterfall splash. If you have the need for more speed, brave the waves from high atop Old Man Falls or race your friends as you go headfirst on a mat down the multi-lane speed slides of Banzai Falls. If you care to slow it down, the 750,000-gallon Tidal Wave Bay wave pool is one of the world’s largest. In addition, the park’s 1,700-foot.-long (1/3 mile), figure-eight Sunset River is the widest and one of the longest water park lazy rivers anywhere!

Time to relax? With 35 semi-private cabanas available for rent by the day, guests can have it made in the shade. Soak City cabanas are furnished with lounge chairs and your own semi-private dining area; complete with waiter service and free inner-tube rentals. For cabana reservations visit soakcityoc.com or call (714) 761-6268.

First Look of Ben Affleck as Batman and the New Batmobile

Batman!

After months of speculation and waiting, the look of Ben Affleck in the new Batman suit, and his new Batmobile, were officially revealed today by director Zack Snyder, for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, known as Batman vs. Superman. Yesterday, Snyder teased all of us with this tweet:

And today, he followed it up with this full reveal:

It’s a really beautiful and striking picture, and it definitely harkens back to the earlier Burton films, while being fairly reminiscent of Nolan’s Batsuit as well. But what it most resembles, to me, is the look of Kevin Conroy’s Batman in the 1990’s animated series. This suit looks fantastic, as does his new Batmobile. Snyder has nailed the look of Batman and the Batmobile, now we just have to wait and see what he does with him on screen, but the wait for that is going to be much longer.

Batman vs. Superman, which also stars Henry Cavill, who returns as Clark Kent, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and many more, is currently set for release on May 6, 2016, against Marvel’s Captain America 3. Whether it stays on the date for now is anyone’s guess, but no matter what, it’ll be exciting to see the two most iconic superheroes finally on the big screen together.

Do you like the look of the new Batmobile and suit? Leave your thoughts in the usual place!

'Godzilla' Movie Review

Godzilla

“The arrogance of man is thinking nature is in our control… and not the other way around.”

It’s been sixteen years since Hollywood tried to bring Godzilla to the big screen, in the 1998 Roland Emmerich film, Godzilla, starring Matthew Broderick. For many, the film was everything that was wrong with the Americanization of films from other countries, and everything wrong with giving a popular property to someone who has no understanding or care about what makes the property work. But a lot of time has passed, and the dust has settled, with many letting the film drift quietly out of their memory. Enough time has passed that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures decided to bring back the King of the Monsters in the biggest way they possibly could, and this time, they had help from director Gareth Edwards, someone who really set out to make a movie that fans, and audiences, could rally behind, while paying homage to what has come before. Gone are the cheesy stock characters and one liners, and the over excessive CGI, and in its place, we find a a story of man vs. nature, family, and redemption, all against the backdrop of the emergence of something that has been hidden from humanity, and the fallout it can cause.

When a series of different seismic activity readings begin to register in Tokyo, Japan, Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) begins to worry about the safety of his nuclear power plant, and the people in surrounding areas. But as the quakes get worse, it destroys the power plant, killing many. Consumed by guilt, Joe begins to research the event, determined to discover the real cause behind the plant’s destruction, which he believes has been covered up. The years pass, and Joe has lost contact with his now adult son, Ford (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), who sees him as crazy. But when Joe is arrested in Japan, Ford is forced to reconnect with his father to bail him out of prison, and is thrust into the middle of his father’s delusions. As events begin to unfold, Ford realizes that his father may not be as crazy as he thought, as a monster begins to emerge that threatens the safety of those around the world. With the help of Dr. Ishiro Serizawa (Ken Watanabe), Ford, as well as the the US military, set out to stop the new MUTO that has emerged, but there are bigger forces at play, and they may need to stay out of the path of Godzilla, as nature sets its own actions in motion.

There’s so much to love about this new film, it’s hard not to admire the ambitions and goals it has. For a film of this scale, it’s actually surprising that so much time is spent on the buildup of the world, and the characters that inhabit it. It’s very reminiscent of films like Jurassic ParkJawsAlien, and King Kong (2005), that are all about creating atmosphere, tone, characters, and a slow build up before unleashing the creatures inside. In a time when cinema has been more about the quick reveal, without the build up, it was actually refreshing to have slow boil film that sets the stage. Director Gareth Edwards wanted to make sure that the film had characters audiences would care and connect with, and he uses the opening forty five minutes wisely for that reason. Thankfully, he has a cast that is up to the challenge. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, best known for his role in the Kick-Ass film series leads the cast, and he’s quite good as Ford. He’s been through a lot in his life, but he still cares and wants to help people, and he really does have a heard of gold, something that his wife, Elle, played by Elizabeth Olsen, makes sure he never loses sight of. Olsen and Johnson have great chemistry together, and it’s hard not to love their small family. They’re really the emotional core of the film, and without them, it wouldn’t work nearly as well. But it’s really Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe who steal the film. Cranston is so good as Joe, a good man who was forced to make a horrible decision, and one that has taken its toll on him over the years. Cranston plays the roll with earnestness, and he commands the camera when ever he’s in the film. There’s so much talent in this man, and it’s amazing to think it’s only recently really been tapped into. Watanabe is fun as well as Ishiro, a man who knows that man has gotten full of themselves, and that they just need to let nature take is course. He tries to be the voice of reason to a world, and a group of people, who just don’t want to listen, and he’s faced with the horrifying notion that man may destroy itself, or destroy nature, all under his watch.

Edwards himself has really put a strong film together. While at times the dialogue may be a bit cheesy, and the story may seem a bit cliche, it’s the love for the material that really gives the film its strength. Instead of making a film that was all about the CGI and destruction, he doesn’t overload it, letting it progress naturally, so audiences don’t feel fatigued by the time the third act begins. In fact, that third act alone stands as a strong reminder to filmmakers that sometimes less is more, and taking your time to meet the ultimate endgame is completely worth it. While we get spurts of action throughout the film featuring Godzilla and the MUTO, it’s really the third act that takes the film to the next level. The way that Edwards handles the Kaiju action is incredible, and he brings the King of the Monsters back in a way that we’ve only ever dreamed of. Godzilla is a shear force of nature here, fearsome and tough, and the most intense he’s ever been. There’s a real sense of danger when he’s around, and not necessarily because he means to harm anyone, but because he’s literally an animal who is on the hunt, and he won’t let anything stand in his way. The film also features a pretty good score by Alexandre Desplat, that effectively sets the mood of the tone, but it’s nothing that will stand out and be remembered down the line. The only thing that really felt off about the film, overall, was that as the monsters descend onto San Francisco, and the battle has more than well begun, we still see people in office buildings and in other places, while the city has already begun evacuating. With all the chaos happening, you’d have to think someone had alerted people by now, what is happening, or they’d at least hear the commotion.

What could have been nothing more than a cash grab attempt with a highly recognizable name character, Godzilla proves to be one of the best summer offerings in a long time. It’s got a throwback feel, with a slow boil buildup until chaos is unleashed, while giving us time to make sure we care about the people in the film. Bolstered by some excellent performances across the board, and an incredible third act that keeps you on the edge of your seat, director Gareth Edwards has brought Godzilla back in the biggest, meanest, and most impressive way he possibly could. The time of the monster movie is beginning to return, and Edwards, with Guillermo del Toro, who directed last year’s Pacific Rim, may be leading the charge.  This isn’t your grandfather’s Godzilla, this is even better.

First Trailer for NBC's 'Constantine'

Constantine

The first trailer for the new TV series, Constantine, based on the famed DC comic book series, Hellblazer, has just been released. Many will remember the titular character from the 2005 film of the same name, starring Keanu Reeves. The new series, which falls more closely inline with the comics, stars Matt Ryan as John Constantine, a man who is burdened with being the man stuck between a war between heaven and hell. The series also stars Lucy Griffiths (Robin Hood, True Blood), Harold Perrineau (LOST, 28 Weeks Later), and Charles Halford (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., True Detective), and is produced by David Goyer and Warner Bros. Television.

As a fan of the comic series, I like the look and feel of the trailer so far. I really hope the show delivers on the look and feel of the comics, and performs well enough in the ratings to continue for many seasons. Check out the trailer below.

Based on the wildly popular  DC Comics series “Hellblazer,” seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) specializes in giving hell… hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight — or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths, “True Blood”), the daughter of one of Constantine’s oldest friends, he’s reluctantly thrust back into the fray – and he’ll do whatever it takes to save her. Before long, it’s revealed that Liv’s “second sight” — an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences — is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.

Is Chris Hemsworth a 'Lethal Weapon' in the WB Reboot?

Lethal Weapon

Hollywood remakes and reboots are nothing new. It’s been happening since the very early years of film, so the outrage over properties being retooled and redone has never really bothered me. But as a big fan of the original Lethal Weapon series, most would think I’d be aggravated and outraged by the news that Warner Bros. is looking at relaunching the Mel Gibson and Danny Glover starring series. Honestly though, I’m actually kind of excited about it. The new film has been in the works for sometime now, beginning when Lethal Weapon 5 finally fell off the tracks for good, and wouldn’t be happening. Now, The Tracking Board reports that not only is the reboot moving full steam ahead, but it may have found its star in Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth, and its director in Justin Lin, best known for his work on the latest films in The Fast and the Furious franchise.

While not much is known about the film at this time, it sounds like it’ll be part sequel, and part reboot, focusing on Martin Riggs’ son, who is trying to join the police force and pick up his father’s mantle. Martin Riggs was played by Mel Gibson in the first four films in the series, so it’ll be interesting to see if Gibson will be back in some sort of capacity, and I definitely don’t think it’ll be off the table.  The script is being penned by Will Beall, with input from the series’ original creator, Shane Black.

This shouldn’t be terribly surprising news, but it’s good to see that the franchise isn’t dead yet. Even better is that they’re using the original series as a launching point, and this could be more sequel than reboot. I just hope that Lin’s skills, and a solid script, that they can get past the negativity surrounding such sacred ground, and bring us a fresh, and entertaining, new film. Hemsworth is definitely on a roll lately with his career, and he has what it takes to be a big action star, and the idea of him as Gibson’s son doesn’t seem that farfetched. I’m definitely intrigued by the idea of this film, and I hope that Lin can add the spark of fun and action to this series that he added to The Fast and the Furious over the last decade.

Are you excited about the idea of another Lethal Weapon film? Sound off in the usual place below!

mighty-morphin-power-rangers-team-copy

Lionsgate, a leading global entertainment company, and Saban Brands, a strategic brand management company that acquires and builds global consumer brands, are partnering to develop and produce an original live action feature film based on the iconic Power Rangers property, it was announced today by creator of Power Rangers Haim Saban and Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer. The announcement marks another step in Lionsgate’s continued commitment to build a broad portfolio of branded properties and franchises with global appeal.

Saban launched Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as a live action television series more than 20 years ago, and the series has been in continuous production ever since. It has subsequently grown into one of the world’s most popular and recognizable brands, with toys, apparel, costumes, video games, DVD’s, comic books and other merchandise.

The two companies noted that, with an extensive and extremely devoted worldwide fan base as well as a deep and detailed mythology, the Power Rangers are primed for the big screen. The new film franchise will re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world.

“Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level,” said Saban. “They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent. In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we’re confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.”

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Haim Saban and his team to maximize the potential of this immensely successful and universally recognized franchise,” said Feltheimer. “The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever. We have the ideal partner and the perfect brand with which to create a motion picture event that will resonate with moviegoers around the world for years to come.”

The All New 'Seven Dwarfs Mine Train' Attraction at Walt Disney World

train1

Our friends at Destinations in Florida Travel were lucky enough to be one of the first travel agencies to get a sneak peek into the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride at Magic Kingdom Park.  It was an exciting ride, perfect for the whole family!  Here is a little review of this incredible new attraction at Disney World.

Queue Line:  The queue line on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is an interactive experience with several activities to keep the family busy, while waiting in line.  Disney has offered experiences like this one on the Haunted Mansion, Thunder Mountain, and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.  We are excited they added it to the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

The three interactive experiences include a computer generated mine box with gems floating along.  Guests can drag the gems by color and size into their trays.  Another experience allowed you to run your hands through colored water to make music.  My favorite experience was inside The Vault, where you would spin gem barrels that would make music and beautiful lights on the ceiling.  This one is fun to get everyone around you to do it at the same time!  These activities would keep the whole family entertained, while waiting in the stand by line.  For those lucky guests that get a FastPass+, you will miss this entire section and enter from another entrance.

The Ride:  The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride is a family roller coaster.  It is a cross between Big Thunder Mountain and the Barnstormer.  It is perfect for the whole family.  I loved how the ride was smooth for a roller coaster.  There were lots of dips and drops and turns.  The cart would slide left and right (just like a mine cart) to add to the fun.  As you went around corners, the cart would swing back and forth.  You certainly get a different experience if you sit in different spots on the cart.  I sat in the 1st row, 3rd row and all of the way in the back and it was a different experience each time.

The view on the ride was incredible as you got a spectacular view of the new Fantasyland.  If you have an opportunity, you will want to ride in the daytime and then again in the evening.  It was a completely difference experience.

Midway through the ride, you went through the Mine with your favorite friends…the Seven Dwarfs.  The animatronics were incredible, as the dwarfs sang and played in the mine.  They were singing that famous song, “Heigh Ho”.  As you started going up the hill for another drop of the coaster, you could see the shadows of the Seven Dwarfs walking home on the wall (just like the movie). It was amazing!

The next thing you knew, you were back on the roller coaster spinning and dropping.  The ride ended back at the Seven Dwarfs house with Snow White dancing inside with the dwarfs and animals.  Disney had one more surprise. Outside the door was the evil Queen.  Watch out Snow White!

The ride was amazing. The only challenge about the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is the size of the carts.  They sit two people across and it is a tight fit.  Just something to keep in mind during your Disney World vacation.  Overall, it was a fantastic new ride in Fantasyland.

This new roller coaster is set to open on May 28. FastPass+ reservations are already ready for booking!

"Godzilla Craves Italian" FIAT Brand Commercial is now on Television

Leading up to the May 16, 2014, release of Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ hugely anticipated epic action adventure “Godzilla,” FIAT Brand North America launches a new commercial across television on Monday, May 5. The 30-second spot features Godzilla rampaging through an American city, targeting anyone driving a FIAT vehicle. The visual effects were created by the Canadian visual effects house Moving Picture Company (MPC), the team responsible for bringing Godzilla to life in the film, who achieve the same level of cinematic finish and dramatic impact in the spot. The commercial began airing across television (5/ 5), with a special extended “Director’s Cut” available for viewing at FIATUSA.com.

“As one of the year’s most-anticipated films prepares to hit movie screens, we want to think big like the Fiat 500L, and what’s bigger than ‘Godzilla,’” said Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer – Chrysler Group LLC and Fiat Group Automobiles Head of Fiat Brand. “There’s no escaping that whether appetites run for a sporty Fiat 500C, the small-but-wicked Abarth or the four-door Fiat 500L, there is a FIAT for every taste.”

The new commercial unleashes Godzilla on the streets of a major city, where he devours a number of Fiat 500 vehicles. While a helicopter hovers overhead, a yellow four-door Fiat 500L zips through the streets below unsuccessfully trying to evade Godzilla’s path. But Godzilla gets much more than he bargained for with the Fiat 500L when he scoops it up! Godzilla is back! “And it looks like he’s craving Italian!” The spot achieves a striking cinematic feel through its detailed environments, realistic atmosphere and the awe-inspiring power of Godzilla himself.

In addition to the co-branded TV spot, FIAT USA is also executing a movie-themed promotion in support of Godzilla, which invites fans to participate in two distinctive social programs. Beginning, Friday, May 9, the “FIAT Godzilla Giveaway” challenges fans of FIAT and “Godzilla” to prove their ultimate fandom by inviting their Facebook friends and fellow aficionados to “like” FIAT USA on Facebook. Users simply visit the “FIAT Godzilla Giveaway” tab on the FIAT USA Facebook page. Throughout the length of the promotion, movie passes and concessions will be given away in daily sweepstakes. A point system will determine the grand prize winner, who will be awarded the ultimate “Godzilla” movie experience — 10 movie passes, $150 for concessions and “Godzilla”-themed merchandise.

At the end of May, fans can visit www.FIATUSA.com and click on the “San Francisco Showdown” icon to help Godzilla search through a Giga Pixel landscape photograph of San Francisco, the city in which the film’s spectacular finale plays out, to find the hidden FIAT brand vehicles and FIAT logos. For each find, users gain one entry into the sweepstakes to win a three-day trip for two to San Francisco.

The 30-second commercial was created in partnership with Dallas-based The Richards Group.
