12 Must-Do Experiences During Pixar Fest at the Disneyland Resort

The first-ever Pixar Fest brings the playful spirit of Pixar films to life at the Disneyland Resort from April 13 through Sept. 3, 2018, for the biggest Pixar celebration ever to come to Disney Parks. Southern California residents* may even save up to 25 percent on select multi-day tickets when they experience Pixar Fest before May 24. During Pixar Fest, guests will encounter beloved Pixar characters and stories in new and exciting ways at Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, the Downtown Disney District and the Disneyland Resort hotels. With so much to see and do during this limited-time celebration, here are 12 experiences for any must-do list.

  • Experience “Together Forever—A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” from multiple Disneyland Park locations: This new multimedia fireworks show immerses guests into a story of friendship featuring your favorite Pixar characters with the use of projection mapping on iconic locations including Sleeping Beauty Castle, the water screens of the Rivers of America, the façade of “it’s a small world” and the buildings of Main Street, U.S.A.

  • Be dazzled by the “Paint the Night” parade: The nighttime parade with more than 1 million brilliant lights returns, this time making its way through Disney California Adventure. Becoming even more super in June, “Paint the Night” adds a new float inspired by “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2.”
  • Check out what’s new in the “Pixar Play Parade”: For the first time, “Pixar Play Parade” makes its way through Disneyland Park. This interactive, daytime parade gets even more playful with three new story elements featuring the iconic Pixar Lamp and Ball from the original Pixar short, “Luxo Jr.,” and characters from “Up,” and “Inside Out.”

  • Dine at Alien Pizza Planet: Everyone’s favorite green Space Aliens have invaded Disneyland Resort and transformed Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port at Disneyland Park into Alien Pizza Planet. Inspired by the family restaurant frequented by Andy (and his toys) in “Toy Story,” the restaurant serves a few new pizzas and other creatively themed menu items.
  • Take a ride on Pixar attractions at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure: For 20 years, Disney Parks and Pixar Animation Studios have collaborated on attractions and experiences inspired by the colorful worlds of Pixar films. Guests at the Disneyland Resort now enjoy more than a dozen experiences that immerse them in the worlds of some favorite Pixar stories, including Toy Story Mania! and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.
  • Taste Pixar-inspired eats and treats: Guests will discover creatively themed food and beverage offerings around every corner, inspired by Pixar stories and characters. Among the many fun food items are a “Monsters, Inc.”-themed chilled noodle salad at Lucky Fortune Cookery (with noodles that change colors!), a “Ratatouille”-inspired three course dinner at Café Orleans, and new churro flavors, including the “Coco”-inspired Coco Churro (Frontierland churro cart) and the “Up”-inspired multi-colored fruity churro with lemon sugar (Main Street, U.S.A. churro cart).
  • See which Pixar friends you can find on the Disneyland Monorail: During Pixar Fest, the monorail fleet gets a new look with characters from “The Incredibles” and “Finding Nemo.” This highway in the sky offers transportation to Downtown Disney with aerial views of the theme parks while on the 2.5-mile route.
  • Enjoy Pixar delights in Downtown Disney: Pixar fun expands to Downtown Disney with colorful Pixar-inspired topiaries in six different locations, plus a variety of Pixar-themed treats at Marceline’s Confectionery.
  • Meet some of your favorite Pixar pals: Guests may meet some of their favorite Pixar pals at Paradise Gardens in Disney California Adventure, such as Buzz Lightyear and Woody, Russell and Dug, Flik and Atta, Mike and Sulley, and Mr. and Mrs. Incredible.

  • Dance and sing along to live Pixar musical performances: Disneyland Resort musicians also celebrate the theme of friendship with renditions of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”from “Toy Story” in both parks. In Disney California Adventure, a zany, new seven-piece band, TripleDent Gum presents The Pixarmonic Orchestra, performs a fun-filled repertoire of songs from Pixar films.
  • Draw favorite Pixar characters at Animation Academy: In Disney California Adventure, guests will learn to draw their favorite Pixar characters such as Sulley, Dug, Edna Mode, Jack-Jack, Bing Bong and more with the artists at Animation Academy. Drawing classes typically occur every 30 minutes and guests may take home their art as a souvenir.
  • Exchange tokens of friendship: Guests may celebrate their own friendships with Pixar-themed friendship items, such as the “Finding Nemo” and “Finding Dory” souvenir light-up sippers and Pixar Fest friendship bracelets, available at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

DEADPOOL 2 Takes Over 7-Eleven Stores Nationwide

To celebrate the new movie, DEADPOOL 2, in theaters May 18, everyone’s favorite Merc with a mouth, has made his mark at 7-Eleven® stores nationwide. 7-Eleven has launched exclusive Deadpool themed products, sweepstakes promotions, and its first ever augmented reality (AR) in-store experience that literally brings Deadpool into the store, exciting fans with new surprise activities each week. All AR activities can be accessed through the 7-Eleven mobile app.

In 2016, the original Deadpool movie from 20th Century Fox broke multiple box office records, including the biggest opening weekend ever for an R-rated movie. Ryan Reynolds is back as the smack-talking Marvel anti-hero in the much-anticipated second coming.

Coast to coast, inside and out, participating locations are blanketed with messages, doodles, and thoughtful musings from everyone’s favorite hero.

“We are bringing an unprecedented level of excitement to 7-Eleven this summer. Our customers love Deadpool, and our collaboration includes exclusive products and an amazing in-store augmented reality experience that is among the first of its kind at any retailer,” said Sean Thompson, 7-Eleven senior vice president and chief customer officer.

“Deadpool fans can come to our stores and find fun collectibles and different augmented reality experiences unlocked each week through our app,” he added. “We hope people will play along with us – virtually and in real life – and share their experiences with friends and family on social media.”

Exclusive Deadpool-branded items from collectible Slurpee® cups and straws to chimichangas, Monster Mutant bottled energy drinks, Mike’s Harder Watermelon Lemonade and Trolli Sour Brite Tiny Hands candy can be found at participating stores.

“To make this even more exciting, 7-Eleven is launching an Augmented Reality (AR) gaming experience, first of its kind in retail, with Deadpool,” said Gurmeet Singh, Chief Digital and Chief Information Officer. “Fans can interact with Deadpool and have fun experiences in the 7-Eleven app, unlocking different experiences each week exclusively in the stores nationwide and in Canada.   • Tap: Tap the camera icon on the home screen of the 7-Eleven app, and Deadpool appears to guide fans through the experience.
  • Selfie: Take a selfie and watch the mad scribbler take over with his red marker.
  • Seek: Here a zapcode, there a zapcode. Scannable codes throughout the store unlock new activities and 7Rewards bonus points. The fun changes every week so fans are invited to visit often. One never knows where Deadpool will pop up. Literally. Once unlocked, an experience can be accessed later, even after leaving the store.

The Force is Strong at Star Wars Days in Legoland Florida

There is an awakening in the force at Legoland Florida. And it comes in the form of Star Wars Days! On top of all the great things Legoland has to offer, Star Wars Days brings the power of the force to the park May 5-6, 12-13, and 19-20. We had the opportunity to attend this weekend’s event and had a great time.

During the day, the park was filled with amazing characters from the Star Wars Universe The characters were from the 501st Legion and were all friendly and a blast to have there.

In addition to the special event weekend, Legoland Florida just opened a Star Wars- The Force Awakens section in their Miniland USA. The new display is located right in the middle of the other amazing Star Wars displays located at the park.

Star Wars Days at Legoland is a great time for both kids and Star Wars enthusiasts alike. With the event going on two more weekends this month, there is still time to be one with the force at Legoland Florida!

Alaska Airlines gets ‘animated’ With Newly Themed Plane

Ahead of the highly-anticipated release of DisneyPixar’s Incredibles 2 on June 15, Alaska Airlines unveiled a special-edition plane, featuring moviegoers’ favorite family of “Supers.” The Incredibles 2-themed plane, Alaska’s first DisneyPixar film livery, was unveiled to a crowd of more than 2,000 cheering students during Aviation Day at the airlines’ Seattle hangar.

“This plane will delight guests of all ages from San Francisco to New York and beyond,” said Natalie Bowman, Alaska Airlines’ managing director of brand marketing and advertising. “Like all of us at Alaska Airlines, many of our guests have anxiously awaited Incredibles 2. We’re honored to take this incredible family to new heights and share the imagery with travelers across our expansive route network.”

Decked out in their Incredible super suits, the Parr family—Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash and baby Jack-Jack—spans the fuselage. Guests boarding the Incredibles 2 plane will see a logo when they board. An image of the raccoon from the film, Jack-Jack’s nemesis, will delight guests seated over the wings. 

“These characters are among the most celebrated characters in the Pixar family,” said Incredibles 2producers Nicole Grindle and John Walker. “After waiting 14 years to see them on the big screen again, fans will love seeing them on their Alaska Airlines plane, too.”

The unique design is a collaboration between Disney•Pixar and Alaska Airlines. The Incredibles 2-themed 737-800, tail number N519AS, begins flying throughout Alaska’s route network Sunday. With a cruising speed of 530 mph and sporting larger-than-life images of the “Supers,” the plane will visit fans throughout the country via transcontinental routes and flights to Hawaii.

New Multiplayer Mode Comes to Star Wars: Jedi Challenges AR Experience

A new and exciting update is coming to Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, as fans can clash against each other in epic lightsaber battles. The new expansion is for the smartphone powered AR experience from Lenovo. Titled Versus Mode, this is the second update since the product launched last November. The Star Wars: Jedi Challenges app, which is free to download on the App Store® and Google Play™.

This is a product first, as the original version was a single player mode that allowed you to face off against Kylo Ren and Darth Vader. “Innovating and iterating based on customer feedback is a big part of what makes Lenovo products different and better,” states Jeff Meredith, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Lenovo Consumer PCs and Smart Devices. “One of the most popular fan requests since the launch of Star Wars: Jedi Challenges is to enable 1-on-1 local multiplayer mode for fans to duel one another in lightsaber battles. The introduction of the Lightsaber Versus Mode is another step in our journey to offering consumers one-of-a-kind, immersive experiences made possible by AR.”

In Lightsaber Versus Mode, players are guided by visual cues indicating when and where to block, dodge, and strike. When the fight is underway, the battle difficulty will increase until one player comes out on top. As long as the app is fully updated and the same wifi connection is used, you are able to face off and let the battle commence.

“Our goal here is to extend Star Wars experiences in completely new and different ways for fans — Star Wars: Jedi Challenges does exactly that,” said Kyle Laughlin, Senior Vice President, Games and Interactive Experiences, Disney Parks, Experiences & Consumer Products. “The product’s global success has encouraged us to give players even more authentic Star Wars moments, and we look forward to continuing to improve and expand the gameplay.”

This will join the previous expansion, which features duels against two Praetorian Guards and three levels of Strategic Combat on Crait.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Tickets Now On Sale

With Solo: A Star Wars Story only weeks away, tickets have finally gone on sale and are ready for purchase for fans across the galaxy. Here’s a list of some of the available offerings for opening night, as well as some other fun surprises.

AMC Theatres

Fans will get an early showing of the film, collectible poster, dice, button set, and popcorn voucher. Showtime starts at 6PM. Special IMAX posters will be made available for fans who see the film in IMAX on Sunday May 27th and June 3rd.

The iconic Disney owned theater will be hosting an opening night event including a live DJ, meet and greet with Chewbacca, as well as a costume exhibit and contest.

Online and in store exclusives will be made available on May 4th. Though no official details have been provided, the store website is teasing the sale with a sale image to prepare for their special promotions.

Share Your Best Wookie Roar for Star Wars’ #RoarForChange Campaign

Ron Howard, director of the upcoming, Solo: A Star Wars Story, just announced a new campaign for Star Wars’ long going Force for Change charity titled “Roar for Change”. Celebrating one of the film’s biggest stars, Chewbacca, fans are welcome to submit their impressions of his iconic Wookie roar.

For every public post, like, or share on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter that includes #RoarForChange between May 3 – 25, 2018, Star Wars: Force for Change U.S. will donate $1 to UNICEF USA, up to $1 million. This is one of Lucasfilm’s many campaigns in their partnership with UNICEF.

Those attending Disneyland’s special event, Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite on May 3rd will also be invited to roar during the event. Additionally, the Disney Store will be offering 10 percent off their Star Wars purchases when they roar and post in store locations nationwide from May 4th-6th. To help kick off the event, Chewbacca will be joining fans in San Francisco’s Disney Store, roaring and taking part in the fun.

Founded during the production of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Force for Change has been a staple of the Star Wars community and has made a large impact since its creation. Their official site states that their “goal is to harness the strength of Star Wars and its global fandom to empower people to come together to make a positive impact on the world around them. We want to inspire people to be “forces for change” in their everyday lives.”
