Exciting New Changes Coming to the Jungle Cruise!

Jungle Cruise

Disney has announced exciting new changes coming to the Disneyland and Magic Kingdom versions of the Jungle Cruise attraction! These changes are meant to enhance the story while maintaining the classic experience guests have grown to love. They also address some often complained about depictions of “jungle natives,” allowing the experience to be more inclusive.

Jungle Cruise

The new Jungle Cruise will have a connected storyline throughout, with a backstory that includes a brand-new cast of characters, including an entomologist, a bird watcher, and a wildlife painter. And for the first time ever, the Skipper will also be a part of the story with a show figure within the attraction.

Jungle Cruise

We’ll follow along their journey gone awry, as the explorers leave their boat and go off into the jungle. From there, we can see they’ve chased up a tree by a rhino. Meanwhile, their boat sinks and splits in two, and is overtaken by chimps! All of this keeping with the classic humor and jokes introduced many years ago by Imagineer Marc Davis.

More changes will be undoubtedly be included, so this is just a sneak peek of what’s to come. Bur Disney is hoping to implement these changes on both coasts in 2021. WDI has also clarified that many of the classic jokes will remain, but this new storyline gives the Skippers even more material to play off of. We can’t wait to see it come to fruition!

Review: Marvel’s “WandaVision” Series Premiere – Let’s Get Weird

WandaVision

563 days…that’s how much time has passed since Marvel Studios’ last film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, was released in theaters. A record-setting 23 films were released between 2008-2019 as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, culminating with the most successful movie of all time, Avengers: Endgame. And Spider-Man’s last adventure bookended Phase Three of “The Infinity Saga,” leaving fans to wonder what comes next.

Less than 3 weeks after Spider-Man’s release, Marvel announced its massive plans for Phase Four, slated to begin in May 2020 with Black Widow after a short hiatus.

But 2020 was…well, not the year any of us was expecting. A global shutdown affected multiple productions, release dates were delayed and shifted, and then delayed again. And now after 18 months have passed without a single Marvel release, we find ourselves (finally) at the beginning of a whole new era.

Enter WandaVision

WandaVision

The first MCU canon television show and one of many original titles announced for Disney+. Originally intended as the fifth release of Phase Four, WandaVision now has the opportunity to set the tone for the next several years of films and TV shows. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige promised that this show would mark a new chapter of storytelling for the MCU, and its unique setting and approach does just that.

Reprising their roles as the title characters are Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, who both first appeared in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron (not counting a brief post-credits scene). Presented as a sitcom from years’ past, WandaVision reintroduces our main characters as they are beginning a new life in the small, fictional town of Westview. We see them coming straight from their wedding to move into a new home. Everything is bright and cheery on the surface as the couple adopts a suburban lifestyle, but clearly, there is an underlying confusion they cannot explain.

In the MCU, Vision was killed in 2018 by Thanos, and Wanda was last seen in the final minutes of Endgame, which is set in 2023. Everything we are witnessing in WandaVision is some kind of an alternate reality. But from whose viewpoint? As the events of the first two episodes unfold, the real world begins to subtly creep in from multiple points and the supporting characters lend credence to the uncertainty. What is really going on? Who are these co-workers, neighbors, and friends? How did they get here? Is all of this really happening?

WandaVision

As we’ve seen from the trailers, the show is going to progress through multiple decades of sitcom styles. Episode 1 begins in the 1950s, and Episode 2 moves into the 1960s. This provides a unique opportunity to tell the narrative in an ever-changing way, as well as add to the overarching mystery. While feeling nostalgic and familiar, it is equally fresh and unique at the same time.

Never before has a TV show attempted to pay homage to sitcoms as a plot device. In this case, it is being used to create a sense of normalcy for Wanda and Vision. But as an outside viewer, we know this illusion and idealized life is anything but normal. Olsen and Bettany play into the TV marriage and sitcom antics with perfection, nailing the respective eras. And Kathryn Hahn leads the supporting cast as a nosy neighbor intent on helping Wanda fit in with the social circle.

As more of the story continues to unravel in future episodes, the line between what is real and what is imaginary should start to become more clear. The evolution of the characters and their environments through the decades should provide nonstop entertainment. Just make sure to keep your eyes peeled for a sprinkling of Marvel Easter eggs throughout, and your ears tuned to the voices in the static.

WandaVision

While an 18-month delay between releases was certainly not Marvel’s intention, in retrospect it has actually been a welcomed break. “The Infinity Saga” concluded on a very high note, and the additional breathing room between phases allows the viewer a fresh perspective upon returning to this world. And if these first two episodes are any indication of what’s to come, it promises to be a unique and weird ride.

Score: 9/10

Marvel’s “WandaVision” new Behind-the-Scenes Featurette

The new featurette offers a look behind the scenes and a glimpse at what’s to come in Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision,” a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

“WandaVision,” the first Marvel Studios series created exclusively for Disney+, stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Paul Bettany as Vision, Kathryn Hahn as Agnes, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, who was introduced to audiences in “Captain Marvel.” Kat Dennings will reprise her role as Darcy from “Thor” and “Thor: The Dark World,” and Randall Park will reprise his role as Jimmy Woo from “Ant-Man and The Wasp.”

Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision” is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems. The series is directed by Matt Shakman with Jac Schaeffer as head writer. Composer is Christophe Beck, and theme (for certain episodes) is by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Featuring nine episodes, the first two episodes of “WandaVision” are now streaming exclusively on Disney+.

WandaVision

What we Learned from Marvel’s “WandaVision” Press Conference

WandaVision

Marvel Studios presents “WandaVision,” a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems. “‘WandaVision’ will be the very first Marvel Studios series on Disney+,” says Kevin Feige, president, Marvel Studios, and chief creative officer, Marvel. “Wanda and Vision are two of our most powerful and complex heroes, and this series is a perfect expansion point for MCU storytelling.”

The series not only marks the first Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series, but it is also its first journey into the world of sitcoms—with an MCU twist. “It’s a mash-up of classic sitcoms and large-scale Marvel action,” says Matt Shakman, who directs all nine episodes. “I think it’s really lovely that the first streaming show from Marvel Studios—producer of huge blockbuster films—is really a love letter to the history of television.”

According to head writer Jac Schaeffer, “WandaVision” is funny, mysterious, and action-packed. “It picks up shortly after ‘Avengers: Endgame,’” she says. “Marvel fans have never seen Wanda and Vision in this way before. Their storyline has been so romantic and tragic—fans have really latched onto it. But really, it’s been precious little screen time, and it’s all been very fraught. In this show, we get to see them in a domestic light, and it gets to breathe. It’s really beautiful.

“In the first episode we meet Wanda and Vision after they’ve just been married,” continues Shaeffer. “They’re driving into this new town with ‘just married’ on the back of their cute little car. It’s the 1950s, black and white, they’re absolutely adorable. They’re madly in love, and there is not a hint of the Avengers or the larger MCU. We see them going about their day, making breakfast. She’s a witch, he’s synthezoid. She can dry dishes in the air. He can change density and walk through things.”

Says Shakman, “Wanda and Vision are just starting their married life together in this new town, and they’re meeting their neighbors. Vision’s starting to work at his new job while Wanda navigates life at home. They’re concerned about hiding their powers from their new friends and neighbors, and when they’re pushed for more information about where they came from, they’re stumped. That’s when we start to realize that things are not quite what they seem.”

With nine episodes, the series was created much like a motion picture would be—but more extensive, allowing the first-of-its-kind exploration of the relationship between Wanda and Vision. Says co-executive producer Mary Livanos, “Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany have the opportunity to flex different muscles over the course of this series that usually an actor wouldn’t get to do within the scope of a single project.”

About WandaVision

During a recent virtual press conference, we heard from the cast and filmmakers on how they brought this new series to television. The Cast Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda), Paul Bettany (Vision), Teyonah Parris (Monica), Kathryn Hahn (Agnes), was joined by Jac Schaeffer (Writer / Exec Producer), Matt Shakman (Director / Exec Producer), and Kevin Feige (Producer).

WandaVision

The First Episode was shot in front of a live studio audience, here is how Elizabeth Olsen reacted.

“It was the first thing we shot. It was so nerve-wracking and, there was a lot of adrenaline. There were a lot of quick changes and, and totally, confused my brain mentioned Olsen. “The idea of not playing to an audience but feeding off an audience and having a camera, I was really grateful when we added the fourth wall for our second episode.”

“It was like an amalgamation of, Mary Tyler Moore and Elizabeth Montgomery, and I think I accidentally threw in some Lucy in the 70s just because there was so much physical comedy.”

Matt Shakman explained how classic sitcoms inspired his direction.

“Well, we wanted to be as authentic as possible. That was one of the biggest goals, and so production design, cinematography, costuming, everything was about going on this deep dive and with the actors we all wanted to do the same thing, so we watched just a ton of old television episodes, talked about how comedy changes, you know because it really does.”

“The approach to comedy in the 50s, 60s, 70s is really different. And doing it in front of a live studio audience, which is this weird quasi theater-TV, this thing is real it really adds to it.”

“I Love Lucy and Dick Van Dyke. You can feel the energy of that sort of theatrical performance working with the audience. And then when you get into the 60s shows like Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie, it is the fourth wall, and all of a sudden it’s much more like doing a movie these days, and that laugh track is all canned and brought in. It changes the energy, the approach, the style, everything. We also worked with a fabulous dialect coach, to talk-you know, to work on how the people would sound in that era, how they would move. We just did everything we could to make it as authentic as possible.”

WandaVision

Paul Bettany talks about his character Vision.

“I was worried about that initially. I was like, “Wow, this is-feels so different,” as I read the script and how do I keep him the same? And then I realized he’s always been becoming something else, you know. He’s Jarvis, he’s part Ultron, he’s part Tony Stark, and he’s omnipotent but he’s also this sort of naive ingenue.”

“Then I realized, well, I’ll just throw a little bit of Dick Van Dyke in there and a little bit of Hugh Laurie and maybe a little smidges, you know. So, as long as he remains, what I think Vision is is just decent and honorable and-and exists for Wanda, and then you’re safe.”

Teyonah Parris explains who Monica is and more about her character.

“We met Monica in Captain Marvel as a little girl and basically in WandaVision we pick up with who she is now as a grown woman, and through the course of the show, we find out what she’s been up to, what’s happened for her, between that gap in the years and who she’s grown and involved or-or not. And we just follow her along.”

“We will get to see more of Monica as she joins Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel and Miss Marvel in Captain Marvel 2.”

Writer Jac Schaeffer explains Wanda’s and Vision’s journey and what we can expect.

“Wanda and Vision are really as a couple a fan favorite because their love story has been so very tragic but also really kind of warm and intimate, and we’ve seen them in this really beautiful kind of stolen moments in the MCU.  It’s actually been a small amount of screen time but very powerful and very soulful, and-but what we have with WandaVision which is really I think a treat for all is we’re sort of opening up the stage and space for them and they’re in this as a domestic sphere.”

“We get to see them doing dishes and in the kitchen and being cute and-and, just all the sort of like homebody stuff that you would never get to see a-a superhero participate in.  So we really go from these enormous sorts of dramatic moments, and kind of frat moments in the MCU and then in WandaVision, it’s a lot of cute until it’s not.”

WandaVision

Kevin Feige lets us know about this first sitcom in the MCU and what we can expect for the future.

“This was our test run. Marvel of course has had a lot of, good successful TV in the past.”

“This was Marvel Studios’ first foray and directly with the cast and amazing characters that we’d seen in movies, coming onto television.  And the idea of-always was, yes, to do something that could not be done, as a feature. That plays with the format and plays with the-with the medium.  And there were a lot of meetings before people actually sort of understood what we were trying to go for, and, and we’re only sitting here because Jac and Matt did.  And, we’re able to turn a whacky idea into a spectacular show.”

“We’ve got lots of other things we’ve announced that that is coming out, but, as it all comes together, I’m actually very happy and it worked out perfectly that this is the debut on Disney Plus for the MCU.”

WandaVision will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning Friday, January 15, 2021.

Endlings: Complete Season 2 (Hulu Original)

Disney+The year is 2041; Julia (Kamaia Fairburn), Johnny (Edison Grant), Tabby (Michela Luci), and Finn (Cale Thomas Ferrin) continue to help their extraterrestrial friend Ling save fantastical endlings. With the aid of their foster father Mr. Leopold (Neil Crone) and animal activist Dr. Abiona Maina (Oyin Oladejo), the group is getting closer to retrieving the remaining ‘last of its kind’ creatures and completing their mission. But when Ling accidentally shows Tabby a vision of their quest failing, the team learns that Ling’s powers don’t just allow the alien access to their pasts but also their futures. This glimpse of what’s to come reveals Infinitum CEO Tresa Hewes (Lisa Ryder), who has been tracking them for her own elusive reasons, capturing Ling and tearing their foster family apart. Together, the group makes the choice to confront the pain of their pasts in order to change their futures and save Ling. This decision to fight fate kicks off a season of high-octane adventure where four wounded teens must learn to let their hopes, not their hurts, shape the future.

Jann: Complete Seasons 1 & 2 (Distribution 360)
In Jann, Jann Arden plays a fictionalized, self-deprecating version of herself: a singer-songwriter of a “certain age” in severe denial of the harsh reality that her former music career is slowly (okay, rapidly) fading away. But it’s not just Jann’s career that’s on life support – she’s newly single (don’t remind her), her sister may disown her, and her mother may be showing early signs of memory loss. Jann’s personal life is in shambles and she’s convinced that the cure-all is to enlist a new manager to help rebrand her image. Filled with plenty of LOL moments, she embarks on a quest to return to greatness and go viral but instead gets tangled in the pressures of her ‘real’ life. Jann is at the crossroads between who she was and who she wants to be. Can Jann stage a comeback, reclaim fame…and be there for the people who love her?

‘The Beatles: Get Back’ Sneak Peek Surprise in 2020 by Peter Jackson

The Beatles

Acclaimed filmmaker Peter Jackson has released an exclusive sneak peek of his upcoming documentary “The Beatles: Get Back” for fans everywhere to enjoy. The 5-minute special look is available to fans worldwide on TheBeatles.com and streaming on Disney+.

Jackson said, “We wanted to give the fans of The Beatles all over the world a holiday treat, so we put together this five-minute sneak peek at our upcoming theatrical film ‘The Beatles: Get Back.’ We hope it will bring a smile to everyone’s faces and some much-needed joy at this difficult time.”

The Beatles

“The Beatles: Get Back” Film Info

Acclaimed filmmaker Peter Jackson’s “The Beatles: Get Back” is a unique cinematic experience that takes audiences back in time to The Beatles’ intimate recording sessions during a pivotal moment in music history. The film showcases the warmth, camaraderie and creative genius that defined the legacy of the iconic foursome. Shot in January 1969 and compiled from over 60 hours of unseen footage (filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg) and more than 150 hours of unheard audio, all of which has been brilliantly restored, “The Beatles: Get Back” is the story of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr as they plan their first live show in over two years and charts the writing and rehearsing of 14 new songs, originally intended for release on an accompanying live album.

The film features – for the first time in its entirety – The Beatles’ last live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert on London’s Savile Row as well as other songs and classic compositions featured on the band’s final two albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be.

An exciting new collaboration between The Beatles and three-time Oscar®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “They Shall Not Grow Old”) presented by The Walt Disney Studios in association with Apple Corps Ltd. and WingNut Films Productions Ltd., “The Beatles: Get Back” is directed by Jackson, produced by Jackson, Clare Olssen (“They Shall Not Grow Old”) and Jonathan Clyde (“Eight Days A Week”), with Ken Kamins (“The Hobbit” trilogy) and Apple Corps’ Jeff Jones (“Eight Days A Week”) serving as executive producers. Jabez Olssen (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) serves as the film’s editor, and the music is mixed by Giles Martin (“Rocketman”) and Sam Okell (“Yesterday”).

“The Beatles: Get Back” will open in US theaters on August 27, 2021.

Yes. Bolt! There is a Roller Coaster On a Cruise Ship!

Bolt

Santa Claus took a break from his pre-Christmas festivities to venture down to Finland and take a test run on BOLT, the first-ever roller coaster at sea aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s new Mardi Gras which is being delivered at the Meyer Turku shipyard later this week.

With enthusiastic shrieks of delight and a few hearty “ho-ho-ho’s” echoing throughout the shipyard, Santa zipped along the 800-foot-long track featuring a hairpin curve around the ship’s iconic funnel, all while achieving speeds of up to 40 miles an hour.

The all-electric coaster can accommodate two riders, or one Santa Claus and his bag of toys, perhaps, in motorcycle-like vehicles that race 187 feet above the waterline, providing incredible views to the sea below.

“Never in my wildest dreams would I think a rollercoaster could be on a cruise ship.  It’s something we’ll be talking about at the North Pole for a long time!” St. Nick said.

About Bolt

Built-in partnership with Germany-based Mauer Rides, BOLT is a first-of-its-kind open-air attraction that takes cruise industry innovation to new heights when the ship enters service in 2021 from Port Canaveral, Fla.

Legoland CA Rings in 2021 Early with “Brick Drop” in Times Square

Legoland

Needless to say, this has not been the “bricktastic” year we were hoping for … so before Christmas even arrives, Master Model Builders Tim Sams and PJ Catalano are ringing in 2021 early at LEGOLAND® California Resort with a classic LEGO® brick drop in Miniland New York!

The family theme park in San Diego has been closed since mid-March and while guests and Park staff will have to miss the traditional and popular Kids’ New Year’s Eve celebration, hundreds of LEGO Minilanders are already ringing in the new year in a way that’s all too appropriate.

The LEGO Miniland revelers are standing six LEGO studs apart (as close to 6 feet in Miniland terms as possible) as they wait in line to receive toilet paper and vaccine shots – the perfect party favors to end 2020.

The scene includes a nearly 9-inch long LEGO brick cascading down into Times Square as the partying Minilanders – wearing masks, of course – await a merciful end to 2020 and make their New Year’s resolutions including seeing guests back in the Park in 2021!

Last-minute holiday shoppers can stroll into Miniland U.S.A. to view the scene as they come to the Big Shop for the widest selection of LEGO products on the west coast!

Legoland

Check out the DIY mixed-up LEGO Minifigure station with specialty pieces never-before-seen in the Park and sets that have sold out at other retail locations. For online shopping and in-store pick-up, visit www.legoland.com/california/things-to-do/lego-retail.
