Back in 2004, Star Wars Battlefront debuted on the PS2 and ushered in a one of a kind Star Wars experience that still holds a special place in the hearts of fans across the galaxy. Since that day, we’ve seen the debut of 4 major releases under the Battlefront banner.

As a devoted fan, I’ve had the pleasure of playing every version of Battlefront. Growing up with Star Wars, it was big step closer to being a part of the Star Wars universe.

When that first game came out, my mind was blown. There were real battles, real locations, real experiences. It was one of the most exhilarating feelings and completely unforgettable.

Sadly, that feeling would be short lived. I moved away from the family console and went into an Internet-less void with no console or capable PC. The best I could do was bum off of my brother during family visits. Every holiday, summer, or short break, you could find me plugging in my controller and jumping back into the action.

Thankfully, college acceptance letters came and gave me an excuse to get a new laptop. I grabbed a PC copy of the original Battlefront II without hesitation.

The game was breathtaking and took a big step up from the first version. We got space battles, a full roster of iconic heroes, and the ability to play online with others. To this day, Star Wars Battlefront II is my personal favorite.

The reason for that is the balance between both eras of the Star Wars saga in both campaign and multiplayer mode. Even if you wanted a solo round, no pun intended, you could switch to “Instant Action” and not have to worry about running out of game to play. Overall, it’s a tough game to beat since it gave you the most content it possibly could.

Strangely enough, even when the game got repetitive, fans found a way to keep the excitement alive. PC gamers had the ability to create MOD maps for the game, playing with the mechanics and adding a treasure trove of new challenges for players. Clans formed and dedicated servers were created to compete, goof around, and hang out in. The gaming clan I was a member of, DDC, lead the way in the PC world and brought me some lasting friends out of the fun.

My gamer tag, Rogue_Kenobi, came from Star Wars Battlefront. I still use it to this day to play with not only my old gaming buddies, but new additions to the franchise with the new EA releases. Overall, I couldn’t wait for the new games to come out. After all this time, I owe that excitement and anticipation to my love of Star Wars Battlefront II.

Now that EA has taken the stage, it’s hard not to compare to what has come before. The first EA Battlefront game received a backlash of harsh criticism and was a tough sell. It was beautiful, and one of the most realistic depictions of the Star Wars universe. Yet, it was very limited in scope and didn’t give us a lot of options. I really enjoyed the game, but can understand why others didn’t stay in for the long haul.

Now we have the new Star Wars Battlefront II. This latest version has brought in a lot of what fans have been waiting for: Online Multiplayer, Single Player Campaign, Offline Single and Multiplayer, Multiple Eras, and a few more surprises.

I’ve been following the game since the debut announcement and haven’t missed a thing. Though I’m not as tough to please as some hardcore gamers, I still have standards this game will need to fulfill to gain my loyalty.

To test the waters, I drove down to LA for EA Play and got my hands on the Alpha Demo on Theed. You can see my video from the event below:

Moving on to Beta, Battlefront II has shown there is a lot more scope and vision to the content side of things. The beauty and realism of the first version are still alive, but we aren’t stuck feeling like the game is incomplete. When finished, I felt a little bit closer to finding what I’ve been waiting for. I had a sense of hope.

Now that we have finally reached release day, I can’t stress enough how ready I am to take on the galaxy and find my place once again on the battlefield. From what I’ve had a chance to play so far, it’s fun, challenging, and filled with new things to discover.

Hero play is definitely going to be more interesting since you can cross eras from Luke to Rey. Fans are still awaiting more details, as we have not been given the full hero list. Some teases have been given here and there, but there is plenty of room for some new additions.

Though nothing will ever compare to the original Battlefront II, I am ready to grab my blaster and charge off into the binary sunset. Whether or not you are a fan of the series, I hope to see you out there.

‘Something Rotten!’ Excites Musical Fans in Orange County – Review

The unequivocally outrageous and hilariously unapologetically over-the-top Broadway smash hit that is “SOMETHING ROTTEN!” has made its debut in Costa Mesa at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Let’s cut to the chase; There isn’t much more that needs to be said other than it is no wonder why this relatively new show is already so well-loved. If you are looking for a well-rounded musical that will make you laugh nonstop, lets you forget about the real world, and never takes itself too seriously, “Something Rotten!” is your show!

“Something Rotten!” could be described as “Forbidden Broadway” crossing paths with “Spamalot” and a PG-13 rated “Book of Mormon” and then having a love child with every single famous musical from recent memory! This ode to Broadway musicals, regardless of style, is an onstage tribute to all off them. At times it teases the absurdness of the very concept of a ‘musical’ and other times places it front and center on a pedestal, cherishing everything about them.

Taking place in the ’90’s… the 1590’s, the show follows struggling playwrights Nick Bottom (Rob McClure) and brother Nigel (Josh Grisetti). The Bottom brothers, you can see how easily the jokes will come, are finding it difficult to compete with the already infamous Shakespeare (Adam Pascal, “Rent”). Nick quickly figures out that he must do something inventive to gain England’s public interest, so he seeks mentorship from a cooky soothsayer who may be a little off with his predictions of the future.

Taking his new found ideas back to his troupe, Nick finds difficulty in convincing his cast and crew in his silly new concept… but he continues to pursue it as he encounters other challenges with his brothers new love interest, lack of money and backers for the show, and a wife at home that’s trying to be seen as an equal (in the Renaissance era).

A collaboration between the Kirkpatrick brothers and John O’Farrell, “Something Rotten!” is also choreographed and directed by Casey Nicholas (“The Book of Mormon” and “Aladdin”). With his direction alongside songs to such songs as “Welcome to the Renaissance”, “God, I Hate Shakespeare”, and “Make an Omelette”, it should come at no surprise the style of humor at hand.

Keep in mind, the entire first Act is practically just bashing Shakespearean plays, in an intelligently comical way, but make no mistake, it knows where to poke fun without truly discrediting the amazing work of the best-known playwright of all time. In fact, there are countless subtle nods to Shakespeare workings that will fly over many heads, most notably mine as well.

Combining some slapstick and childish low-brow humor with brilliant wittiness and insider jokes for musical fans, “Something Rotten!” finds a niche for a clever yet light-hearted theater-going experience. Finding ways to give nods to such fan-favorites like “Les Miserables”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Wicked”, “Chicago”, “Evita” and “Rent” to just name of few, Casey Nicholas is still able to create an entertaining show for those that might not be as familiar with the ‘inside jokes’.

While much of “Something Rotten!” has elaborate period specific (though not entirely period accurate) costumes, the look and feel has a romanticized modernized stylized flair including a comedic contemporary look for Shakespeare that reminds me of the self-aware Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Even though the choreography is great and the production the highest of quality, he show does not take itself seriously, and I mean that in the best way possible.

With a talented well-established cast, this production ends without a flaw in the acting department. The Bottom brothers are nothing short of fantastic. McClure has phenomenal stage presence and could carry the show without issue. Grisetti (original Broadway cast) playing his dorky hopelessly romantic brother has perfect comedic timing and characterization. This paired well with his love interest Portia (Autumn Hurlbert) who seemingly would be a perfect Kristin Chenoweth replacement as Glinda in “Wicked”. The supporting cast, while all great, has some notable additions. Brother Jeremiah, a flamboyant Puritan leading crazy man, was brilliantly played by Scott Cote. Probably getting some of the best laughs in the entire show, Cote killed it and I loved how much they played him up. Some gags grew a little tired, but at no fault to the actor. Norstradamus, the fortune-telling soothsayer, was the best comedic character, and brought the house down with “Musical”, the show-stopping number of the show.

“Something Rotten!” is just outrageous fun at the theatre that will have you cracking up all the way home.

Star Wars Those seeking the show just for Adam Pascal, this is your friendly reminder that his role should be considered as an “also starring” type of role. While Shakespeare is no doubt a vital character, his character has no redeeming qualities. This Billy Idol like portrayal can be annoying at times and left Pascal without a chance to shine himself. His number “Will Power” seems unnecessary and becomes a bit of bore after the initial gag of the song wears off. Again, no fault to the actor, but just seems like just an excuse to cram in solo for Mr. Shakespeare.

It’s a show made for pure entertainment and give a little nod to the musicals we all cherish. The show is in no way attempting to be something its not, but is able to still be a top-notch production with a traditional, glamorous production purposely designed to celebrate classic Broadway. Sure, there is some further plot and subplots that when overly thought about may make them seem unnecessary, but ultimately, “Something Rotten!” is just outrageous fun at the theatre that will have you cracking up all the way home. That’s all that matters in this case.

A Fall Getaway to Carmel-by-the-Sea

Carmel-by-the-Sea is a postcard village of shady, tree-lined streets, charming hotels and inns, unique shops, gourmet restaurants, and a big, beautiful beach at the end of town. It is slow-moving, Northern California paradise.

A friend and I recently snuck away to Carmel for a couple nights and the memories are still swaying in my head like leafs on the town’s ubiquitous Monterey Pine trees.

Our adventure began at Hotel Carmel (www.thehotelcarmel.com), where we checked into a cozy, 2nd story suite overlooking the lobby, the garden courtyard and the Pacific Ocean. Completely refurbished, Hotel Carmel features 27 spacious and inviting guest rooms and suites designed in traditional cottage-style architecture, with a modern seaside feel.

Our room boasted a brick fireplace, comfy king bed, mini-fridge, spacious bathroom, big screen TV, an office desk with Wi-Fi, and two chairs outside our door overlooking the ocean through the pine trees.

The boutique hotel is located at 4th and San Carlos, just steps from renowned shops, galleries and restaurants. Set among a forest of tree’s that surround town, it is within in a short walk of all the local attractions.

When not sitting on our balcony, gazing at the sea twinkling through the trees, we were exploring town. Our favorite spot was Carmel Beach, located at the end of Ocean Ave, a few blocks from the hotel.

Carmel Beach welcomes visitors with giant Monterey Pine and cypress trees, and gorgeous, rolling sand dunes leading to the ocean. On the fall day that we were there, it was about 75 degrees, with a refreshing sea breeze. The sand was speckled with sunbathers, walkers, joggers and a few playful dogs. The beach allows well-behaved dogs to be off the leash.

Just offshore the beach was teaming with lazy sea otters, floating and rolling on the surf. And beyond these cute creatures, there were incredible views of Point Lobos to the south and Pebble Beach to the north. For a better view of these landmarks, there is a nearby Scenic Bluff Path that meanders through shady Monterey cypress and landscaped gardens to Carmel Point.

Besides the beach, Carmel offers tons of small village allure, with gift shops, art galleries, quaint inns and B&B’s, restaurants, and even an historic California mission. Known as Mission San Carlos Borromeo del río Carmelo, or simply Mission Carmel, the structure was originally built in nearby Monterey in 1770 and relocated to present day Carmel a year later. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and a U.S. National Historic Landmark. It is the only California Mission to still have its original bell tower dome.

Other interesting sites include the town’s historic, volunteer fire department, with its classic stone façade; the Shell gas station, located on a quiet residential street and hidden by trees; and the Cottage of Sweets store with mounds of delicious imported chocolate.

After a day of exploring, we headed back to Hotel Carmel for wine hour in the Lobby living room. This daily, complimentary wine hour features Northern California varietals, along with a wall full of retro cassette tapes and a player to listen to them with.

From wine hour, we walked through the lobby to Brophy’s Pub, hotel’s signature restaurant/bar/meeting spot/sports hangout. Here, we had a couple beers and enjoyed fresh halibut fish and chips; and a braised pork and goat cheese quesadilla, with fig jam, tomatoes and caramelized onions. We sat at the bar while eating and met a couple of people visiting from Virginia and San Jose, CA who told us how Carmel was one of their favorite places.

The next day, we booked a bike ride with Big Sur Adventures (www.bigsuradv.com), a new company that offers a chance to pedal around the breathtaking Big Sur area on powerful, electric-pedal-assisted bikes. The most popular tour the company offers is McWay Falls. This weekend adventure begins with a short hike to get to the starting point, followed by an 18-mile journey that one professional cyclist called “The best bike path on earth, period.”

The trek meanders through one of the most scenic stretches of the Pacific Coast Highway during the quiet of the morning, stopping at multiple scenic points along the way to see things such as California Condor nesting cliffs, whales swimming by, and trail heads to some of the best hidden hikes in Big Sur. The turn-around point is majestic Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS Review

Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot is easily in the conversation for one of the all time great literature characters, having been the focal point of more than thirty-three novels, over fifty short stories, and numerous film and television adaptations. The most famous story of course, and the one that seems to be re-adapted every decade or so, is Murder on the Orient Express. With so many versions of the story already, it’s easy to just write this one-off, and who could blame the audience? In a time where nostalgia rules, nothing is quite sacred in the Hollywood machine, but thankfully star and director Kenneth Branagh has crafted a fun take on the novel that is sure to please newcomers and fans alike.

For the uninitiated, Murder on the Orient Express follows Hercule Poirot (Branagh) who is trying to take a much needed vacation. But when a man named Edward Ratchett is murdered while he’s onboard the Orient Express, Poirot’s holiday becomes a twisting case of intrigue and mystery. Each clue seemingly doesn’t fit with the next, and everyone on board the train is a suspect. But with his wits, and a fantastic mustache to boot, Poirot races against time to uncover the truth about what happened to Ratchett, and who’s behind his grisly murder.

Murder on the Orient Express is a classic novel for so many reasons, and in particular the ending. So because of that, and with so many previous adaptations of the novel, it’s hard to really reinvent the wheel in any sort of way, and instead you have to find a way to make the story intriguing for those who know it, while also hoping to win over new viewers. Branagh does just that with his new adaptation, where he finds a way to make it feel fresh and fun, while not straying far from the novel, while also not changing the ending of the story. It’s not an easy balance, but Branagh finds a way to make it work. The most unusual part of the film, and arguably the most enjoyable moment, is the film’s cold open that leads into the film. Similar to the opening of an Indiana Jones film, we start the film with Poirot on the tail end of a case he’s working in Jerusalem, where we learn just who he is and how he ticks. It’s a rather brilliant move by Branagh as a filmmaker that really gives the audience a clear understanding of Hercule Poirot, and the intricacies that make up his personality, while also setting the stage for the film’s tone and pace.

But unfortunately, from that scene on, the movie runs at too brisk a pace for its own good. The biggest problem with the film is that it never seems to really breathe once the murder aboard the Orient Express happens, making it hard to really get to know each of the suspects, and where each of them is coming from. As Branagh steals the film throughout, the rest of the cast is a blast, but they’re not given quite enough to do. It’s frustrating to have so much talent in one place and have them underutilized so heavily throughout. When you have a cast that includes Daisy Ridley, Willem Dafoe, Michelle Pfeiffer, Johnny Depp, Dame Judy Dench, Josh Gad, and so many more, you expect to see them put to great use. While many of them are good in their roles, it’s a bummer we don’t get to spend more time to really delve into the characters. Thankfully, both Daisy Ridley and Michelle Pfeiffer are the exceptions to the role, as they standout amongst the rest. Even for their limited time on-screen, they leave a lasting impact, and you truly feel you get to know those characters. Depp as well is given ample time to shine, and this may be one of his best performances in sometime, as he’s not playing a caricature and he’s actually being a character. It’s a nice change of pace for what we’re used to with him, and here’s hoping he’ll do more like that down the line.

As the mystery unfolds for the audience, it moves quickly, almost at a breakneck pace that if the audience isn’t paying attention, they might miss exactly what’s going on. But Branagh’s Poirot is so entertaining, he keeps you captivated throughout, and if you’re locked into his performance the rest of the film’s problems really fall by the wayside. He’s constantly fun to watch, either in Poirot’s more eccentric ways, or when he becomes deadly serious about the situation at hand. Branagh just really squeezes everything he can out of the character, making him fascinating to watch on-screen. This is the kind of character that Branagh could really have some fun with over multiple films, so here’s hoping that he at least gets the chance to do another film.

As Branagh directed the film as well, it’s not shocking that it has a bit of a theatrical, and almost Shakespearian feel to the material. This is a very classic murder mystery in that sense, and Branagh really dives deep to make that work. It’s nice that he didn’t feel the need to update the film in some way or make it feel modern, because part of the charm of the story is the time it’s in, and the way it unfolds. Thankfully, they didn’t try to reinvent the film’s ending either, something that was a worry for many when the film was announced. This story has to play out exactly as it was written, and when Branagh goes for the ending, it’s a truly great revelation. It lands in a way that feels earned, honest, and shocking, while also being the almost obvious answer to the whole thing. It’s not an easy balance, but Branagh manages to really make the whole thing come together in a nice package that’s and easy to digest.

Murder on the Orient Express is a very classic feeling murder mystery film, and Branagh does a great job both in front of the camera as well as behind, bringing Agatha Christie’s novel brilliantly to life once more. While it’s not reinventing the wheel, that’s ok, because it’s still a very good adaptation in its own right. Branagh steals the film as Poirot, and while the rest of the cast doesn’t get to shine as brightly as he does, both Daisy Ridley and Michelle Pfeiffer truly standout amongst the rest of the ensemble. This is a perfectly fine fall film that is both fun and fast paced. Fans of the novel are sure to have a good time, while newcomers are in for a treat with the film’s explosive twist ending. Go for the mystery, and stay for Branagh’s mustache, because it alone truly deserves its own Oscar.

Cars 3: Blu Ray Review

“Everything will change”

Cars 3 has just roared into the home media market and if you don’t already have the digital copy, the Blu Ray set is a great addition to your film collection. For the sake of review, we took a look at the Target exclusive edition for the movie. Now that digital has become the dominant trend, retailers are stepping up their game with exclusive sets and designs to lure consumers into bringing home a physical copy.

Target’s edition, like many other Disney collections, includes a special digital picture book that creates a visually appealing and personalized feel. These sets are great for a family setting and a nice bonus for the avid collector.

Best Buy’s claim to fame is their steelbook series that has a cool, crisp finish in limited quantities. When comparing the two sets, the Target exclusive was the overall pick due to the storybook. It rounds out the set and looks amazing. Take a closer look at some of the art below.

What makes this set stand out is the level of detail put into every element of the film. A full tour of the iconic locations is provided, along with deleted scenes featuring rough concept art. The movie’s creators also had a chance to discuss their first car experiences and the power of Cruz Ramirez’s debut in the Cars world. Cruz was a major shift forward, no pun intended. Rather than be fully “bad ass” and fiercely strong, Car’s newest heroine is a mix of vulnerable, caring, and unpredictable. Lightning went into the series with an over abundance of confidence. His story arc focused on humility and learning to work with others.

Cruz Ramirez is the opposite, fully capable, but hesitant to jump into the spotlight due to lack of confidence. The writers and animators wanted to create a more progressive and realistic depiction due to the struggles a lot of modern day women still experience when trying to chase their dreams. When Cruz triumphs, a real and inspiring role model is created. It’s a really positive message.

The features transition into Lightning’s story arc, shedding some light on alternate ending concepts and his relationship to Doc Hudson. The finished product could have been a lot different, and if you are interested to learn more about how Cars 3 could have shaped up, you will have to take a look for yourself.

The Disney Diaries: Fall Back into Dapper. A Look at Dapper Day.

“Dressed to the Nines”

When one thinks about churros, parades, and fireworks, it is important to not forget one of the other key elements that makes Disneyland such a unique experience: Fashion. The way park goers dress is a huge factor in what makes the difference between an every day trip and a magical experience. Imagine a world without family matching t-shirts, ear hats (rose gold and otherwise), or Run Disney’s colorful shoes. Every piece of clothing has the Disney touch and it is hard to ignore the power of it. That power extends to special events held in the park that celebrate trendsetting looks and trends. One of those events, Dapper Day, is easily the most distinguishable out of the set.

Going into its 6th year, the bi-annual gathering draws in some large crowds and turns a lot of heads. The event’s website defines Dapper Day as a celebration of “refined style from yesterday and today”. I’ve attended the event since Spring 2014 and think it’s a wonderful experience.

Originally focused on vintage dress up, the event has transformed into both a celebration of classic throwbacks to early park guest wear as well as a morphed version of Disney fashion called “Disneybounding”. Though the latter has become more and more dominant as each event passes, Dapper Day is a great excuse to dress up and feel good about yourself. Crowds roam the parks as well as a special expo held each event at the Disneyland Hotel that includes exclusive fashion, photo locations, and swingin’ tunes.

Unlike the typical park day, where you rush through the gates to find the shortest E Ticket line, or to grab a spot in queue for a limited pin release, this event comes with cruise control. The event focuses on socialization rather than tackling your attractions checklist. The very nature of it is relaxing and sets a calmer tone than the fierce battle that comes with a jam packed park trip.

The biggest staple of the event includes photography and meeting up with fellow dapper folk. Dapper Day has given me a chance to practice my photography skills in a way that can only be rivaled by seasonal offerings like Halloween or Christmas. Every event brings a new challenge of finding new locations around the park and creative angles to get the best shot. So far, some of my best photos have come from my Dapper Day outings.

Yet, those photos also formed memories and created lasting friendships. You can see the power of the event without needing to look too deep. It all comes together smoothly and makes a lasting impact. All these passions come together and really make something extraordinary. You have elements of photography, fashion, collecting, and so much more. It’s really a playground for fun, creative energy.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience Dapper Day yet, definitely take a chance. Think outside the box and do something that fits your passion. I’ve seen some amazing outfits, which are often featured by Disney Style, Dapper Day’s official site, and local news outlets. Some real time and effort goes into what you see out there. I’ve had a lot of fun so far and can’t wait to see what’s next! This year has already brought some big changes, including special seminars and guests at the Dapper Day Expo. There’s plenty to do and see, so grab your bow tie and your best dress. I’ll see you next spring!

A TV series of Lethal Weapon could have easily been a bad idea, watering down a beloved franchise. But thankfully, Lethal Weapon: The Series is a pretty great new twist on the Mel Gibson and Danny Glover starring films. Instead, Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans take up the mantle of Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh, two cops who are forced to work together against their will, but learn that they may actually bring the best out of each other instead. Now, WB has released Lethal Weapon: The Complete First Season on blu-ray. Featuring all eighteen episodes of the show’s inaugural run, the new set lets fans and new comers dive back into the action, adventure, and mystery that Riggs and Murtaugh face together.

It’s easy to see why fans of the films would be uneasy about the idea of bringing the beloved film series to the small screen, but honestly, it’s been handled with the type of love and care that makes for a fun viewing. The show really hinges on the performances of Crawford and Wayans, as well as their chemistry, because that’s part of what made the films so beloved. Riggs and Murtaugh were brought so incredibly to life by Gibson and Glover, and their chemistry really sold the films. It’s impossible to expect that Crawford and Wayans could share the same sort of flair and chemistry, but honestly, they do great work together. Crawford in particular brings that brutal honesty of Riggs to life, who just like in the film series, is a man on the verge of sanity after the death of his wife. But what comes with that emotional character is also a wry smile, and natural comedy, making a likable hero you can pull for, and Crawford truly lands that balance.

But taking a franchise like Lethal Weapon to the small screen also means potentially losing the edge of the R rated series. It’s impossible not to lose some of that, since this is a network series, but those behind the series have found a way to find that dark, gritty nature underneath, making the show feel as familiar to fans as possible. It’s no easy task to make a series have life and death stakes and real world consequences to these characters, something an R rated film can do to better effect. Thankfully the show runners have figured out how to replicate that feel on TV, and more often than not, it works well. But the show also has a heart, and humor, to balance the darker stories set to the Los Angeles backdrop, making for a pretty charming show that’s hard not to love.

Lethal Weapon: The Complete First Season comes to blu-ray with a few special features alongside the episodes. Those include:

- Extended Pilot (Uncensored): Nothing to really write home about, it doesn’t add too much extra to the pilot episode, outside of an extra F bomb.

- Deleted Scenes (1080p; 1.78:1): Each disc on the set features deleted scenes from various episodes. Again, like the pilot, it’s nothing terrible substantial, but fans wanting more from the episodes, this is the place to go:

- Reloading Lethal Weapon (disc 3) (1080p; 1.78:1; 15:41): This is the most interesting feature on the disc, giving us a look into the making of the series, and how they developed it for TV. Honestly, it would be even more interesting if it was longer, but it still works.

Gag Reel (disc 3) (1080p; 1.78:1; 2:53): Short, surprisingly so in fact with the talent in the series, but as far as gag reels go, it’s fun.

Lethal Weapon: The Complete First Season is well worth a pick up if you’re a fan of the films, or of course, of the new series as well. Featuring outstanding performances from its two leads, this was easily on of the biggest surprises of the 2016 TV season. The blu-ray looks and sounds great, and doesn’t offer much in the way of special features. If you’re in it just for the show, this is more than well worth your purchase.

FLASH: THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON Blu-ray Review

Barry Allen is back, and once again, he’s fighting another speedster, in The Flash: The Complete Third Season. If that sounds a little catty, which in fairness it does, it’s because season three of the hit CW series may be the weakest, because the show seems to be going through the motions, and instead of sticking with the more interesting plot of Flashpoint, decides to go back and use another Speedster villain, this time in a man named Savitor, and his eerie puppet master, Alchemy.

The truth is, the season starts off really strong with the Flashpoint storyline, but only spends all of two episodes dealing with the fact that Barry tried to change the timeline, and created this new parallel universe. It’s clearly something that’s ripe for mining, but the show isn’t that interested in going there, which is incredibly frustrating. There’s so much potential in alternate timelines, and time travel in general, and while yes, there are ripples the rest of the season, it’s not enough to make it feel like anything but a missed opportunity for the show. Especially to go right back into using another Speedster as the big bad. This is the third season that’s used that trope, and it’s become tiresome.

Thankfully, even for the weakness of the overall season’s plot arc, it doesn’t make Grant Gustin any less fun to watch as Barry Allen, which is clearly the show’s biggest accomplishment. Gustin really makes Barry fun and memorable, and makes even the weakest episodes watchable. His supporting cast is still strong as well, though it continues to feel like Candice Patton’s Iris gets the short end of the stick as far as character arcs go. Here’s hoping that things pick up in season four.

Now WB is bringing home The Flash: The Complete Third Season to blu-ray and DVD, featuring the entire season of the series, as well as a bunch of special features. But before we get to the special features, fans of the series may want to make note that much like Arrow: The Complete Fifth Season, Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Second Season, and Supergirl: The Complete Second Season, The Flash: The Complete Third Season only features the episode’s within the show’s flagship series, meaning none of the outside crossover episodes are on the discs. This makes for frustrating viewing, as The Flash is part of a four way crossover event, as well as a two part crossover event with Supergirl, and you’re only getting one part of these bigger stories. For fans, that’s not a good thing, and makes for a frustrating viewing experience. Warner Home Video may want to think twice about splitting the story arcs that way in future seasons.

The Flash: The Complete Third Season is a step down in quality from the first two seasons, but it’s still not a bad watch. It just doesn’t live up to the potential of the story arcs it sets forward, which is a bummer. Still, for fans of the series and the character, this is worth a pick up. But again, be aware you won’t be getting the entirety of the story arcs unfortunately, which was not a great move by Warner Home Video. Hopefully this will be rectified in later season sets. For fans, this set is still a no brainer to pick up, and comes recommended.

GOTHAM: THE COMPLETE THIRD SEASON Blu-ray Review

Gotham may have started a bit rough, but this scrappy little show that follows James Gordon, Bruce Wayne, and many of Batman’s rogues gallery in the years before Wayne becomes the Dark Knight on crime. As the show has progressed, it’s become a fascinating elseworld that is as much a loving origin for Batman and Gordon, while forging its own path to tell new stories with many of the characters fans love. In fact, it’s so far from the source material that it probably shouldn’t work, but the truth is, the farther it strays from the source, the more fun it is. Season three of the series is easily not only the best the show has been, but it’s the most fun as well.

Season three of Gotham hits the cords as it begins to dig deeper into the minds of the Penguin, Riddler, Joker, and many more of the Batman baddies, while also beginning to really flesh out the rise of Batman within Bruce, Gordon’s rise in Gotham PD, and Selina Kyle’s life as Catwoman. The cast is just so much fun, and the creators of the series are having a great time playing with these characters in new and interesting ways. Prequels are a dime a dozen, and we don’t really need to see where the things we love come from, but with Gotham they do a great job of making you care. The characters feel developed, and the city is honestly the most fleshed out here than it ever has been in any medium of film or television.

Season Three also delves into The Court of Owls, an underground organization, that may or may not have bigger things in mind for Bruce Wayne, and Gotham City as a whole. Bringing that shadowy group into Gotham proves to be a fantastic addition to the show that adds as much intrigue as it does drama. The more that Gotham moves more to serialized storytelling like this, and away from the Batman villain of the week scenario, the stronger the series becomes.

Honestly, if you’re not watching Gotham, you really should be. The show has continued to get better and better as it goes along, being an incredibly fun series with fantastic characters. Season Three is no different, and this blu-ray set comes with some excellent special features that help fans dive a little bit deeper into the show. This is one of the craziest shows on tv, and just a really fun “what if?” about Batman’s origin. This blu-ray set comes recommended. Own it Now on Blu-ray and DVD.

Disneyland Resort guests enjoy a variety of live performances, and many youngsters get their first taste of live theater in Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park. Even with all the spectacular rides and attractions in the parks, a Disneyland Resort guest could spend a full day and night simply enjoying the shows, large and small.

Throughout Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, guests encounter parades, dance parties, street performances, musical groups and live shows virtually at every turn. A full list of entertainment is available each day at the park entrances and may include the following:

“Mickey and the Magical Map” – The show, presented on the Fantasyland Theatre stage, features Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters in a dazzling adventure filled with music, fun and special effects.

It features delightfully interactive entertainment, music and an opportunity for guests of all ages to participate in the festivities. Parade routes and theatrical venues aren’t the only places where Disneyland Resort guests encounter live entertainment. There are magical encounters with live Disney and Disney•Pixar characters, and the parks are filled with many other energetic and talented performers.

At Disneyland, the Disneyland Band, the Dapper Dans quartet and the Refreshment Corner Piano Player are all on view on Main Street, U.S.A. In New Orleans Square, the toe-tapping shows star the rowdy piratical Bootstrappers, the Jambalaya Jazz Band and the mellow Royal Street Bachelors.

At the entrance to the Golden Horseshoe in Frontierland, guests may encounter the goofy Laughing Stock Company. The gifted musicians of the All American College Band appear on Main Street, U.S.A. during the summer.

At Disney California Adventure, Buena Vista Street comes alive with the Red Car Trolley News Boys and the outgoing, improvisational Citizens of Buena Vista Street. The swinging jazz combo Five & Dime travels through the park on a makeshift jalopy, Green Army Men from “Toy Story” patrol the park with “Operation: Playtime!”

Cars Land in Disney California Adventure offers in-person greetings by Lightning McQueen, tow truck Mater, fire engine Red (who waters the flowers and cleans up the streets) and “DJ’s Dance ‘n’ Drive,” a spontaneous street party designed to get everyone dancing with the vehicular music maker DJ.

The live entertainment experience at Disneyland Resort extends beyond the borders of the parks, with character meals and occasional musical entertainment at the Disneyland Resort hotels, and multiple live musical performances along the walkways of the Downtown Disney dining, shopping and entertainment district. Downtown Disney also offers live entertainment at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen.

Mickey Mouse To Delight His Biggest Fans Around The World

To celebrate his upcoming birthday, Mickey Mouse is surprising some of his biggest fans in eight locations around the globe. Leading up to the big day—November 18—Mickey will take off to such exciting destinations as Japan, Chile, Canada, China, England and the United States. These magical moments will be captured and shared on Disney’s Mickey Mouse Facebook and Instagram pages. Mickey will bring a few more surprises when he visits the Good Morning America studios in New York City on November 15. Fans are encouraged to join the fun on social media using #HappyBirthdayMickey.

In honor of the occasion, Disney’s e-commerce site shopDisney.com will feature special Mickey birthday merchandise from November 16–23, and on November 18, all Disney Stores in the U.S. will host celebrations throughout the day with entertainment and activities.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts

On Mickey’s birthday, the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as Disney Stores in the United States, will be distributing commemorative “Happy Birthday, Mickey!” buttons. Disneyland Park in Anaheim will host a special cavalcade featuring some of Mickey’s friends along with the Disneyland Band; and at Magic Kingdom Park in Orlando, characters and performers will dance in a special birthday-themed song during Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! There will also be commemorative merchandise, treats and photo locations throughout both resorts. Celebrations will also take place at all of Disney’s international theme parks including Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Resort and Shanghai Disney Resort.

Disney Channel and Disney Junior

Special marathons of Mickey and the Roadster Racers and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse will air throughout the weekend of November 17 on Disney Channel and Disney Junior, and a new Mickey Mouse-themed Disney Junior Music Nursery Rhymes short entitled “Happy Birthday” debuts November 17 on Disney Junior YouTube. On November 18, Disney Channel will air Mickey Mouse shorts every half hour throughout the day, starting with the premiere of “The Birthday Song,” a new short in which Minnie Mouse loses the notes to Mickey’s birthday song and needs to recover them to save the festivities.

Disney’s Digital Worlds

In addition, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, Oh My Disney, Babble and other Disney sites will be posting Mickey-related videos, galleries, stories, crafts, recipes and shareables leading up to and on his birthday. And a selection of Disney games and apps will feature special Mickey-themed content and giveaways, including Disney Magic Kingdoms, Kingdom Hearts Union Cross, Disney Tsum Tsum, Disney Magical Dice, Disney Story Central, Disney Jigsaw Puzzles! and Color by Disney.

Mickey’s birthday is celebrated in honor of the release of his first theatrical film, Steamboat Willie, on November 18, 1928, at the Colony Theatre in New York City. Luke Skywalker takes the Scene in a new look at the upcoming installment, Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.

Fans had a quick glance into what’s to come next month for the big movie release of the season with a special look at Luke returning to the Millennium Falcon, Rey taking her blade under the rainfall, and Finn cheering in the cockpit of a fighter at the franchise’s latest location.
