Disneyland Rings in 68 Years of Magic

The original Magic Kingdom celebrated its birthday on Monday, July 17, 2023, ringing in 68 years of magic, wonder, and memories with park-goers of all ages at the Disneyland Resort. The celebration took place early afternoon, under the warm Southern California Sun, bringing forward the yearly tradition of looking back at the man who started it all, Walt Disney.

The cavalcade made multiple stops throughout Disneyland Park, including It’s a Small World, Town Square, and the Main Street Train Station. Fans were greeted by Mickey Mouse, The Dapper Dans, as well as The Disneyland Band, who led the procession in singing Happy Birthday to Disneyland. Walt’s original dedication speech was also heard, followed shortly after by plenty of cheers, applause, and waves toward the multitude of characters out to commemorate the occasion.

The celebration gave guests a chance to reconnect with both rare and fan-favorite characters alike including Tweedledee and Tweedledum from Alice in Wonderland, Merida from Disney and Pixar’s Brave, as well as Mirabel from the recent smash hit, Encanto.

This year’s anniversary also marks Disney’s 100th-anniversary celebration, looking back at over a century’s worth of storytelling and magic. As the Disney100 celebration is already underway throughout the resort through various food offerings, merchandise, and décor, no additional surprises were revealed for Disneyland’s 68th anniversary. Though the resort is only two years away from its 70th anniversary, which will mark its Platinum Anniversary, and ten years since the last big milestone, Disneyland’s Diamond Anniversary Celebration.

The anniversary also takes place shortly after the resort hosted the World Premiere of the upcoming film, The Haunted Mansion, themed after one of the resort’s most popular attractions, and on the heels of a historic strike between SAG-AFTRA, WGA, and major studios, including Disney.

Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, who recently sat down with CNBC, discussed the strike, changes in strategy for the company as a whole, and his thoughts on the recent changes taking place across the Walt Disney Company and the industry as a whole.

Though the news has not seemed to have a direct impact on the resort, fans prepare for the highly anticipated return of the Halloween season, as well as the now sold-out Oogie Boogie Bash, selling out in record fashion. Whatever the future holds, it is apparent that 68 years after the very first guests walked through the front gates, the magic of Walt Disney’s original park marches on forward.

Disney+ has released a brand-new trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion.” Don’t miss the last two episodes of this exciting espionage thriller that has Nick Fury trusting no one as he rushes to avert chaos.

In Marvel Studios’ new series “Secret Invasion,” set in the present-day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.

Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion” stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, with Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle.

Disney+ has announced that Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” will begin streaming on Disney+ on August 2. Watch the TV spot and prepare for our beloved heroes’ arrival on the streaming service.

In Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” our beloved band of misfits is settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a task that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova. James Gunn is the director and also wrote the screenplay. Kevin Feige produces with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Sara Smith, and Simon Hatt serving as executive producers.

Interactive Gameplay: Within the land, guests can enjoy many interactive areas, including punching ? Blocks to collect digital coins. They will discover a new dimension of SUPER NINTENDO WORLD via the interactive binoculars positioned within the land, employing augmented reality technology. Guests can also collect keys after winning the Key Challenges from Goomba Crazy Crank, Koopa Troopa POWer Punch, Piranha Plant Nap Mishap and Thwomp Panel Panic. Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Adds Special Service

The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner will once again operate daily train service through south Orange County starting Monday, July 17, just in time for highly anticipated events across Southern California, including Comic-Con International San Diego, the X Games California Finals, and the start of the Del Mar Summer Racing Season.

The resumption of full train service follows the completion of a railroad protection project near the San Clemente Pier, eliminating the need for a shuttle bus connection between Irvine and Oceanside. Passengers can now enjoy transfer-free travel along the scenic coastline to popular events.

To accommodate the expected increase in travelers, three additional trains will be added to the Pacific Surfliner schedule from Friday, July 21 through Sunday, July 23.

Train 568 will depart Los Angeles at 9:10 a.m. and arrive in San Diego at 12:07 p.m., making all stops in between.
Train 799 will depart San Diego at 1:25 p.m. and arrive in Santa Barbara at 7:44 p.m., making all stops in between. It provides an evening return for X Games attendees traveling north, departing Ventura at 7:09 p.m.
Train 798 will depart Santa Barbara at 8:50 p.m. and arrive in Los Angeles at 11:48 p.m., making all stops in between. It provides a late-night return for X Games attendees traveling south, departing Ventura at 9:43 p.m.

Event Details

Comic-Con International: Fans of comic books and pop culture, industry professionals, and cosplayers will travel to San Diego for workshops, panels, film screenings, and competitions. The San Diego – Santa Fe Depot is an easy walk or quick trolley ride away from the main events at the convention center and other downtown activities.

X Games California: Elite action sports athletes will compete at the Ventura County Fairgrounds for Finals Weekend of X Games California. The train station is conveniently located next to the Fairgrounds parking lot, within a two-minute walk from the event entrance. A 15% discount is available on train travel and event admission.

Del Mar Racetrack: The summer horseracing season will kick off with special events throughout the weekend. From the Solana Beach Station, a free shuttle is available for train passengers to connect to the racetrack.

New Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Coming to Disney+

Disney+, Disney Junior, and Lucasfilm announced that “Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures” Season 1 continues with six all-new episodes. The new episodes will debut on Disney+ and Disney Junior beginning August 2, 2023, with more episodes to come later this year. In total, “Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures” Season 1 will be a 25-episode run.

Set during The High Republic era, the animated series follows Jedi Younglings as they study the ways of the Force and learn valuable skills needed to become Jedi. The series was recently nominated for a 2023 Television Critics Association Award and was awarded a Common Sense Seal from Common Sense Media, which acknowledges outstanding media that families can enjoy together.

The first seven episodes from the series, which premiered May 4, saw the Younglings train with Master Yoda and Master Zia at the Jedi temple on Tenoo, meet the pilot and fast friend Nash Durango, and clash with pirate Taborr Val Dorn. The six new episodes will follow the Younglings as they continue to hone their Force abilities and go on adventures across the galaxy.

Hulu Launches ‘Hulu Animayhem’

Hulu is the streaming destination for Adult Animation and Anime content, home to over 20,000 episodes across both genres, has launched “Hulu Animayhem,” a sub-brand that puts a spotlight on this robust Adult Animation and Anime library and super-serves its fans in a way that only Hulu can.

Kicking off with a new hero spot and creative key art picturing some of Adult Animation’s most beloved characters, the campaign will also include interactive social media touch points including a TikTok bracket challenge, AR filters, and more.

“Big Hero 6” fans – the moment we’ve been waiting for is nearly here. Get ready because soon we’ll be able to step into San Fransokyo Square! This new seaside plaza at Disney California Adventure Park will be filled with delicious dishes from a variety of neighborhood restaurants and small businesses inspired by the beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios film.

The local San Fransokyo Square eateries will start to introduce delicious new menu offerings over the summer, starting with Lucky Fortune Cookery on July 19! In the weeks following, even more, dining options will join the seaside plaza as the transformation continues through mid-August.

As they explore this exciting neighborhood, Guests will be met with the mouthwatering smells of some can’t-miss treats from new locations like Aunt Cass Café, Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería, and Rita’s Turbine Blenders. Each of these new spots will feature diverse menus with items like the Shrimp Katsu Sandwich or Beef Birria Ramen, and even a Baymax Sipper! And don’t worry – many favorites from Lucky Fortune Cookery and Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill will still be available, and with some new treats to enjoy too.

While we all know there’s magic afoot at the Disneyland Resort, it’s little known that the magic can even appear in your Disney PhotoPass photos. Disney PhotoPass photographers capture picture-perfect memories of the whole family – and sometimes, photographers sprinkle even more pixie dust on your photos. We call these Magic Shots. Let’s dive into our favorite Disney PhotoPass Magic Shots currently available most times most days at the Disneyland Resort.

Balloons
Location: Disneyland Resort

Don’t float away! This magical photo op features iconic Mickey Mouse Balloons and is captured at many locations throughout the Disneyland Resort. It’s available year-round and is often available with limited-time theming for various celebrations. Right now, Guests can enjoy balloons themed to the Disney100 celebration! Be sure to ask a photographer if they are offering this Magic Shot at their location.

Cheshire Cat
Location: Mad Tea Party in Fantasyland

Is it an unbirthday? This Magic Shot is the perfect way to celebrate. The Cheshire Cat is sure to make Guests grin when he pops into their Disney PhotoPass photo over at the Mad Tea Party in Fantasyland.

Huey, Dewey and Louie
Location: Left of the Hyperion Theater in Hollywood Land

Huey, Dewey and Louie are excited to have Guests in their photo! Make sure to stop by the photo location to the left of the Hyperion Theater in Hollywood Land and get these three troublemakers in a photo — and promise not to tell Uncle Donald Duck about their shenanigans!

Violet’s Force Field
Location: Bridge to Pixar Pier

We still have more incredible Magic Shots ahead. Located on the bridge to Pixar Pier, this Magic Shot gets the whole family in the frame – and in Violet’s force field! With her superpowers, Violet shields Guests from Jack-Jack’s unpredictable superhuman abilities.

Location: Millennium Falcon

If Guests’ travels bring them to the remote planet of Batuu, head over to the Disney PhotoPass Image Scanner (known on our planet as a photographer) by the Millennium Falcon to get this inquisitive creature in a photo!

Minnie Mouse
Location: Sleeping Beauty Castle & Partners statue

Minnie Mouse is the star of the show in this Magic Shot! She’s stylish, creative and an icon! A classic and must-have for the collection, this Magic Shot is located in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, as well as the Partners statue.

Buzz Lightyear and Woody
Location: Bridge to Pixar Pier

Looking for a rootin’ tootin’ good time? Another great Magic Shot can be found on the bridge to Pixar Pier! To round up the end of this list, Buzz Lightyear and Woody are flying into the frame with this “toy-rific” photo op.
