Immersive Disney Animation Premiering in Los Angeles June 23

Disney Animation

Following celebrated premieres in 13 cities and rave reviews from critics and audiences across North America, Lighthouse Immersive Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios have announced that Los Angeles will be the next city to premiere Immersive Disney Animation on June 23, 2023. The Los Angeles iteration of Immersive Disney Animation will be housed in Lighthouse ArtSpace Los Angeles – the same venue that was home to the popular Original Immersive Van Gogh – in the iconic former Amoeba Music Building at 6400 Sunset Blvd.

Tickets for the Los Angeles presentation of Immersive Disney Animation start at $29.99 and go on sale May 12 at 10 a.m. PT at lighthouseimmersive.com/Disney.

The creative team behind Immersive Disney Animation is led by Oscar®-winning producer J. Miles Dale (Best Picture 2018 -The Shape of Water), Special Projects Producer Dorothy McKim (Oscar®-nominated, Get A Horse!), who is spearheading the project for Disney Animation, Lighthouse Immersive’s Global Creative Director David Korins (Tony Award®-nominee for Hamilton, Emmy Award® winner for Grease Live), and Mexico City-based Cocolab.

Immersive Disney Animation was called “jaw-dropping” by Axios, “a peek behind the curtain that you would just never otherwise get” by the Boston Globe, with Elite Daily remarking, “you really feel like you’ve stepped inside your fave film.”

Immersive Disney Animation saw its celebrated world premiere in Toronto in December of 2022. The exhibition is now open in 13 North American cities, including Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Nashville and San Antonio and its first intercontinental presentation in Tokyo, with additional cities soon to be announced.

Disney Animation

“The rollout of Immersive Disney Animation has been met with overwhelming positivity and tremendous acclaim in the 13 cities we’ve debuted the show so far,” said Disney Animation Special Projects Producer Dorothy McKim. “And we are proud to announce that we will be presenting this spectacular exhibition in the birthplace of Disney Animation, where our studio’s first creations took shape. We can’t imagine a more fitting locale for this celebration of Disney animation, and the incredible artists and animators that bring these worlds to life.”

“Lighthouse ArtSpace Los Angeles has housed one of the most impressive stagings of Immersive Van Gogh for the better part of two years,” said Corey Ross, producer and founder at Lighthouse Immersive Studios. “It is one of the most popular, best-selling venues of the 20+ other Lighthouse ArtSpaces we’ve opened across North America, and Immersive Disney Animation is going to take it to a whole new level.”

Disney Animation

Lighthouse ArtSpace Los Angeles is hosting a final slate of showings for Immersive Van Gogh from June 1 – 11 before Immersive Disney Animation takes over as the standalone experience. Tickets are on sale now at vangoghla.com.

Creating iconic animated stories for all ages for nearly a century, Walt Disney Animation Studios has joined forces with North America’s top creator of experiential projection exhibitions (including The Original Immersive Van Gogh) to present the music and artistry within Disney Animation’s canon of films—from hits of today like Encanto, Zootopia and Frozen, to all of the classics including The Lion King, Peter Pan and Pinocchio. Audiences will feel like they’ve entered the incredible worlds of beloved Disney characters and become one with them.

The creative team for the Immersive Disney Animation is led by Oscar®-winning producer J. Miles Dale who said, “As a filmmaker, I am always seeking out ideas that can engage an audience in new and interesting ways, and to show them something that they have never seen before. Using the new technology that the immersive experience offers is exciting, but it’s important that it not interfere with the emotional investment that Disney fans have in the characters and storylines that audiences have come to cherish.

This groundbreaking approach that Lighthouse Immersive Studios has created does exactly that by giving the viewer the sensation that they are actively sharing the space with the characters they most love from the Disney Animation library. Most of our guests have seen these films multiple times, but they tell me that they feel as though they are seeing them in an entirely new way, and that was always our goal.”

Disney Animation

Mexico City-based Cocolab worked with Dale and the Creative Legacy team at Walt Disney Animation Studios to develop the program for Lighthouse Immersive Studios. Special Projects Producer Dorothy McKim is spearheading the project for Disney Animation. “Having been a part of Disney Animation for over 40 years, I truly consider this one of the great joys within my career, partnering with Lighthouse Immersive to bring our characters, stories and films to audiences in thrilling and new ways,” said McKim. “Watching the joy and delight the show brings to audiences is what dreams are made of.”

Beyond the unparalleled projection design that Lighthouse Immersive is known for, Immersive Disney Animation is further enhanced by expansive environmental design by Lighthouse Immersive’s Global Creative Director David Korins.

Disney Animation

Additional interactive features within the projection show include a responsive floor projection design that moves with the audience and custom bracelets that light up in sync with the projections and are based on the audience’s movements through the galleries. In a particularly show-stopping moment, the Gazillion Bubbles special effects team fills the 500,000 cubic feet of galleries with bubbles.

Ross captures the excitement both Disney and Lighthouse Immersive feel for the project as he describes how it begins: “Just imagine journeying through Zootopia with Judy Hopps, diving to the ocean floor with Ariel, flying on a magic carpet with Aladdin, and stepping into Casita with Mirabel and the family Madrigal. This is where the Immersive Disney Animation takes you.”

Collaborating with Lighthouse Immersive is the Creative Legacy team of Walt Disney Animation Studios, helping bring their library of films to audiences in a manner never before experienced.

Walt Disney World: New Ways to Make Visits Easier in 2024

Walt Disney World

Every guest who visits Walt Disney World has a completely unique experience. The magic of these experiences comes from the little moments, the ones we don’t quickly forget. Like the décor when guests step into a Disney Resort hotel, the smell of their favorite Disney snack as they walk down Main Street U.S.A., the cast member who went out of their way to help a guest, or feeling the thrill of racing across the Grid on TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom Park.

Thousands of these unique moments happen every day, creating a deeper connection with Disney. That is why Disney recently rolled out updates to improve the Guest experience, like bringing back complimentary overnight self-parking at our Disney Resort hotels, adding attraction photos taken in the park on the day of a visit to Disney Genie+, and more.

And today Disney is thrilled to share some more exciting news just in time for the launch of 2024 bookings for theme park tickets, Disney Resort hotel stays, and packages at Walt Disney World on May 31. These updates will make planning a Walt Disney World visit easier, so guests can simply enjoy their vacation and make more memories:

Removing theme park reservation requirements for date-based tickets

Starting with park visits on Jan. 9, 2024, theme park reservations will no longer be required for date-based tickets. You heard that right! When getting a ticket, simply select a start date for Jan. 9, 2024, or later, complete the purchase and you will be all set! For reference, date-based tickets are the standard ticket option. For other admission types, including non-dated tickets, theme park reservations may be required to help continue managing attendance and delivering an excellent experience for everyone. Guests can check which admission types require park reservations by visiting DisneyWorld.com/ThemeParkReservations.

Introducing ‘good-to-go days’ for Annual Passholders

In 2024, select days on which Annual Passholders may visit Walt Disney World theme parks without needing a park reservation. Once introduced, these “good-to-go” days are on an ongoing basis. This will be in addition to the recent update which offers Passholders the opportunity to visit the theme parks after 2 p.m. without needing a park reservation, except on Saturdays and Sundays at Magic Kingdom Park. “Good-to-go” days may vary by park, and pass block-out dates and capacity limitations continue to apply like they do today. Please stay tuned for more details on “good-to-go” days

Disney Animation

Bringing back fan-favorite Disney dining plans

Time to eat! Disney dining plans will be coming back as an option for those staying at Disney Resort hotels who purchase a vacation package starting with stays beginning Jan. 9, 2024, which will also open for bookings on May 31. We know guests and families in particular, have missed dining plans, which are pre-paid and offer added convenience and peace of mind. Guests will be able to choose from two popular options: Packages that include either the Disney Quick Service Dining Plan or the Disney Dining Plan – both will be a great value for families with young children with access to many spectacular food and beverage offerings across Walt Disney World.

Continuing to provide extended park time to Disney Resort hotel guests

For those planning to stay at a Disney Resort hotel, Disney will continue to offer the popular early theme park entry for visits through 2024. This great benefit gives Guests a jump start on their day. For those staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts and Deluxe Villas, will also be continuing to offer extended evening hours on select dates at select parks through 2024. Early theme park entry and extended evening hours require valid theme park admission and a Resort ID.

Simplifying the Disney Genie+ experience

We have heard from guests that they would like ways to plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual lightning lane selections before the day of their park visit, and while we don’t have specifics to share yet, we want you to know we are working on ways guests may do this for visits in 2024. We want to give guests the opportunity to spend less time planning in the park and more time enjoying their visit with friends and family. We look forward to sharing more details at a later date.

“The Muppets Mayhem” Season 1 Review

The Muppets Mayhem

The Jim Henson Company is back in the studio with Disney, with an exciting new show with a cast of characters that haven’t taken center stage on a project till now, that is to say, they aren’t unfamiliar with the stage, they are Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. The group is the star of a new Muppets-centric show on Disney + “The Muppets Mayhem”.

The series follows the band’s journey to making a record in a struggling music industry that should be an insider, but actually an outsider of the industry “Nora” played by Lily Singh. Filling out the cast are notable character actors including Tahj Mowry as a groupie from the band but ultimately friend that is his character “Moog”.

The show makes good use of some familiar character actors from some of your favorite tv sitcoms and comedies, as well as the ever-reliable staple from the franchise of having some of the most choice cameos time and time again.

The format of the show integrates many show styles that have become popular on the small screen over the last twenty years, seamlessly recapping certain parts of the larger story in a unique, yet familiar way to those television lovers may be familiar with. After each episode, you’ll be left wanting more Muppets and all the mayhem they can offer.

Each episode continues its own self-contained story that moves the larger story forward but with enough tight modern storytelling and with that sensibility that it can be expected for viewers to want to see what happens next episode as soon as they are able to. Binge-watching the series can be done effortlessly but to appreciate all the nuggets throughout the series such as those famous cameos, it might be suggested to enjoy it at a slower pace.

The ridiculous situations in which our human players find themselves usually because of the equally ridiculous Muppets, who are front and center in the show, and the other Muppet franchise elements, might leave some newer Muppets viewers confused, but those familiar with Muppets fare will find they are all just apart of the fun that these characters are known for bringing to the screen. The heartwarming moments that the Muppets perform that tug on the hearts strings are a large part of this show and are earned as they play out across the season.

Disney Animation

The series follows a similar formula to other Muppet projects from the past, and is a formula that has worked time and time again. The root of the story is that of the underdog.

The human characters and The Muppets typically have to work together to help each other to find success or both typically in these stories are at risk of losing everything. Muppets projects are at their best when there are some stakes involved, even if they are Muppet-level stakes, it is this storytelling that has made for some of the best moments in their franchise. People like The Muppets for the talent they portray on screen but they love them for their seemingly amazing ways of overcoming amazing obstacles together with their cast of characters and friends to save the day.

The familiar formula the show brings is comforting in a sea of many Disney+ projects that seemingly desire to revive franchises with great fervor all while forgetting why people loved watching those franchises in the first place, you’ll be glad to hear the rich formula that made this franchise successful is not lost on “Muppets Mayhem”.

The long rich history in Muppets lore is not forgotten here, this is not some ill attempt at a reboot, the show simply hopes to pick up where the story of the Electric Mayhem might have left off since we last saw them on screen.

Disney Animation

Music-centric driven storytelling that The Muppets have used since its inception is front and center in this show about Electric Mayhem, keep an eye out and an ear open to all the different music that is on full display or talked about, sprinkled throughout the show.

Time and time again these puppets known as The Muppets have made for very human storytelling for the last few decades across their library of projects. It seemed it was time that whatever cast of characters the Henson company could bring together to bring The Muppets back to the cultural conversation should be done with care. Not only is this project done with care but with fun.

The music and song heritage of The Muppets is integrated into this show about Muppets making music while also honoring the music it has become legendary alongside, music from the era of the ’70s all the way till today.

Choc Walk Returns to Disneyland Resort as in-park 5K

Choc Walk
Choc Walk in the Park. August 2018

For the first time since 2019, the popular fundraiser “CHOC Walk in the Park,” presented by Disneyland Resort, returns as an in-park 5K to raise funds for Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), a pediatric healthcare system serving children and families in Orange County and beyond. The event, now in its 33rd year, officially returns in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 20, 2023, when enthusiastic fundraisers will begin their approximate three-mile course, starting on Main Street, U.S.A.

From there, they will continue through Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, encountering fun, delightful, and whimsical surprises along the way, all culminating in a festive finale before the parks open to the public.

Disney Animation

“We’ve been involved with ‘CHOC Walk in the Park’ for 33 years, and we are excited to bring it back as a magical 5K experience inside the parks,” said Ken Potrock, president of Disneyland Resort. “Over the decades, we have helped raise $42 million to help CHOC support children and families in our community. We are proud to welcome back this highly anticipated event and to continue Walt Disney’s legacy of being an active, supportive, and caring neighbor.”

The 5k walk is the most unique and magical pediatric fundraiser in the nation and brings the community together for one single goal – to raise funds for healthcare programs, education, and research benefitting Southern California children and families. Based on previous CHOC Walks, this year’s event is estimated to feature around 350-400 teams, including participants from across the U.S., plus Canada, Mexico, Australia, and Japan. Monies raised will support CHOC programs and services in the greatest need.

Disney Animation

“CHOC Walk in the Park is a beloved tradition for our community, and we’re grateful to the Disneyland Resort and its Cast Members for creating such a unique experience for everyone who attends. It’s heartwarming to see thousands of people join CHOC on our mission to advance pediatric healthcare. Together, we are literally taking steps to keep children happy and healthy,” said CHOC President and CEO Kimberly Chavalas Cripe.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 Press Conference Recap

Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is now in theaters, and will be the last time audiences see the Guardians as they have come to know them. ”Vol. 3” is the final film in director/writer James Gunn’s wildly popular “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy.

During the global virtual press conference we heard from the filmmakers and cast to discuss this final film. Chris Pratt (Peter Quill), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Will Poulter (Adam Warlock), Chukwudi Iwuji (The High Evolutionary), Maria Bakalova (Cosmo), James Gunn (Writer & Director) and Kevin Feige (Executive Producer) were in attendance with Nathan Fillion (Master Orgosentry Karja) moderating the discussion.

When Gunn first envisioned the trilogy, he knew one thing. “There were a lot of things that I guessed, and there were a lot of things I didn’t know,” he explains, “but I knew that the core of the story, for me, was Rocket and his story, where he came from, and who he was. It was very important for me to tell that story.”

And in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” it is Rocket’s story that does drive the narrative. When the film opens, our beloved band of misfits is settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life, a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians.

In creating the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy Gunn highlighted his thoughts on the films that started over a decade ago. “I felt really good about it from the beginning.  I felt like we were doing something different.  I felt like, you know, the world kind of needed a space fantasy that was different from ones we had seen before.  So, I was very pleasantly surprised when my greatest hopes did come true.  But I think in terms of the story that we were told over the three movies, I think that I did have sort of a sense of how it was gonna go from the beginning.”

Disney Animation

Q: Are you gonna miss these characters?

Gunn: “I’m gonna miss the characters.  That’s the saddest part for me, is I really, truly love these characters.  I love all of them.  I think there are certain ones that I have a special fondness for, especially Rocket.  And yeah, the saddest part of all of this.  I’m gonna see all these people again.  They’re all friends of mine.”

Chris Pratt returns as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, who is trying to cope with the idea that Gamora is alive but doesn’t know who he is. Quill struggles to move on, which leaves the Guardians vulnerable to attack. Quill must make up for his mistakes in order to protect one of his own.

Q: Peter Quill, Star-Lord, he’s been through it. He’s already saved the universe a couple of times. Is he sad?

Pratt: “He’s a guy and there’s a wonderful monologue that Batista gives that, you know, comes from Mantis that Quill is a guy who needs to learn how to swim.  He’s been hopping from lily pad to lily pad, woman to woman, and relationship to relationship.”

“I think that’s a pretty human condition.  I think, oftentimes, we find ourselves in our relationships or in the affiliations we have with a team or a family or whatever.  And he has been lost.  So, yeah, in the beginning, he was running away from the death of his mother, but he got to pretend to be this character based on these pop culture icons of his childhood of the late-’80s.  And so, he was dancing around, but all of that was really, he had found himself there.  And then he found himself with the Guardians of the Galaxy.  And then he thought he could find himself with who his father was.”

Karen Gillan is Nebula, who has settled into her role with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Now that they have bought Knowhere from The Collector, she is dedicated to making it the home she never had.

Q: Here’s another journey, of Nebula.  She’s probably had one of the more different, probably the longest journey.  She’s really flipped the coin. In this, is she nicer?  Is she kinder?  Is she coming around?  Where is she now on this journey?

Gillan: “I think, you know, post-Thanos being eliminated from her life, she’s starting to flourish a little bit more and she’s starting to have a lighter personality and she’s a little more willing to show vulnerability.”

“I love these characters.  Mantis and, like, Kraglin and Rocket, and Star-Lord.  Everyone.  It’s like, it’s just so lovely to come together and see everyone as human beings.  But then also, to play these characters, as well, it feels really familiar.  It feels like two families or something.”

Q: What’s changed for you since the beginning?

Gillan: “Definitely my understanding of what it’s like to be a scapegoat sibling.  That’s interesting. I’m an only child.  Yeah.  Because Nebula was definitely that.  She was never the golden child.  And so, I never understood that because I’m an only child.  And so, that was a really sort of interesting exploration for me.  So, now I just have so much respect for people that have gone through that.”

Pom Klementieff returns as Mantis. After fighting many battles with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Mantis has begun to embrace her powers, find her voice and become confident in her role with the Guardians—all of which will be needed to help protect her family from new dangers.

Disney Animation

Q: Mantis is a fan favorite, to say the least.  You really landed on something incredibly pure and sincere. What has Mantis brought to you, both as an actress playing the role and as a real-life person actually walking down the street?

Klementieff: “I mean, for me, it’s not Mantis.  It’s like, Mantis and James Gunn.  James changed my life. And get to play Mantis, I got, I mean, you know, she’s an empath, you know?  So, you have to have a deeper connection with everything and everyone.  So, it’s, like, beautiful to tap in and [create?] deep, profound, and layered emotions, you know?  And yeah.  And then I got to be super weird, which is really fun to do, too.”

“I love playing this character and I’m so grateful for James to have, you know, given me this opportunity.  And to get to play with all these incredible actors.  And I think each character, they complete each other, too, you know?  And I remember James telling me that Mantis was kind of like the glue that kept the Guardians together in some ways, you know?”

Sean Gunn brings Kraglin to life again. The former first mate of the Ravager Yondu, Kraglin fought alongside the Avengers against Thanos. Now an official member of the Guardians, he must master the Yaka arrow in order to fulfill his potential.

Q: Kraglin started out as plucky comic relief but is now a pillar, a foundation of support, and the guy you call when you need something. What’s brought him from that to this?

Sean Gunn: “You know, I think that, just like all the Guardians, Kraglin had to kind of figure out what his place in the family was.  And one thing that really impresses me about the movies is how I do feel like, in a way, that the journey of the cast has mirrored the journey of the characters, in a way.”

“And that, like, for me, being there in the first movie and feeling like, oh, I’m the director’s brother and I’m here and I’m kind of on the outside.  And Kraglin is just kind of on the peripheral and he comes in and says his things here and there.  And then learning that, over the course of the movies, that I felt as much at home with all these people, you know, that I felt fully accepted and, like, a full member of the cast and of the group.”

“I loved watching how other characters lean on him more and more and rely on him more and more as a responsible, go-to guy.  It’s been really nice watching that.”

Some exciting new faces join the action, including Chukwudi Iwuji, who plays the villain, The High Evolutionary; Will Poulter, who brings comic-book character Adam Warlock to life for the first time in the MCU; and Maria Bakalova who voices Cosmo, the space dog, who was sent into space by the Soviets and wound up with the Collector.

Disney Animation

Q: All right, Chukwudi, your character was so righteous. James Gunn calls you And says, “I want you to be in the new Guardians movie.”  Your reaction is?

Iwuji: “Homer Simpson, the blink.  You know, when Homer doesn’t know what to say and doesn’t understand what you just said.  And the camera stays on him and he keeps doing that. That’s what it was.”

“Yeah.  So, I just sort of blinked for a while and mumbled something.  And he said, “It’s great.  I’ve already spoken to Kevin about it.  We’ll get together at my place or something.  We’ll put something on camera and send it to them.”  And I thought that was gonna happen in the next few days.  I think it was, like, six weeks or five weeks before I actually got the screen test done, right?”

Q:  The High Evolutionary is one of the best villains she’s ever seen on screen.  High praise.  How was it getting into the mindset of a character who is an unhinged genius who experiments on living creatures in the name of science?

Iwuji: “It was very dark. It’s like, how do I bring this guy into the room?  Because I knew that would be taken care of in the script, the motivations and the moments and stuff are impeccably written.  Because he deals with character.  So, it was about, who is this guy before he turns up on the set, you know?”

“He’s a Villain with a God complex. Who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.”

Disney Animation

Q: Will, you were the new kid.  These were established, people. How’d they treat you?

Poulter: “Oh, my gosh.  I couldn’t have been, like, made to feel more welcome by everybody.  I think because I was a really big fan of the Guardians movies.  And within the Marvel universe, this was the trilogy, as it now is, of films that I was kind of the biggest admirer of.  And so, you look at something as a fan, and you think, that’s cool, to be able to appreciate that as a fan, you know, for what it is.  And that’s what it will always be.  You don’t imagine yourself being a part of it.  So, that in itself was exciting.  And then to have, you know, an experience characterized by all of these lovely people making me feel so welcome.”

Q: Maria. You get a call.  You’re gonna be in a James Gunn movie.  You’re super excited.  Then you find out it’s a dog. Are you still excited?

Bakalova: “Even more.  When I was auditioning for the part, I was like, “How can I play this?”  And it was so interesting because you can be a little bit more over the top, ’cause she’s a puppy and she has more energy.”

Disney Animation

“And then, when I found out that I can be on set, actually, and work with a mo-cap suit, and imagine that I’m a child again and use my imagination to be like, “Okay, today I’m going to be a dog.  Tomorrow I will be a flower.  The next day, I’m going to be a butterfly.”  It’s interesting, we tend to forget about imagination when we grow up.  And it’s been just incredible.”

To wrap up the Press Conference Kevin Feige highlighted how it was working with the team and his thoughts on the end of this trilogy.

Q: What has this trilogy impressed upon you?  Working with James, seeing his vision, watching this come to fruition, and the fan’s reaction.

Feige: “You know, we’ve had trilogies before.  We’ve had a number of them, actually.  And I was thinking, why does this feel so different and so much of a passage of some sort?  And it’s because Guardians really was the first movie that was completely outside of the realm.  It tied in with Thanos and Infinity Stones.  But The Avengers were not in it.  And we weren’t setting up Tony Stark’s next adventure, or Captain America.  And it was really our attempt of saying, we don’t wanna just do superhero movies.”

“We don’t want to just do Iron Man movies or Avengers movies.  And we wanted to do, as James said earlier, a big space movie.  And it worked in a crazy way.  It worked entirely because of James Gunn.  So, it just feels like this trilogy, and James writing and directing all three of them, it represents something unique within the pantheon of the MCU, that I’m very proud of.”

Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is full of surprises and will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. This last film in James Gunn’s trilogy combines deep emotion, the director’s special brand of humor, cinematic artistry, and action-packed moments—all leading to an outcome that no one will expect.

Chris Pratt comments, “This film is similar in tone to what you’ve come to expect from James in ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy.’ It’s wild, it’s extraordinary, it pushes the boundaries, it’s fun and funny. It focuses on uniqueness and heart and compassion, imagination, music, humor, vibrant colors, beautiful imagery, and ingenious alternate universes. It’s the final installment of ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy’ and wraps it up in a way that really only James could.”

Says Gunn of his last cinematic journey with the Guardians in the MCU, “I just wanted to make the coolest movie that I could possibly make. It’s really been rewarding for me to make this movie, which is such a personal statement because Rocket is me and this is about me. To see people react to it in the way that they have so far is a good feeling.”

Carrie Fisher Gets Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Hollywood

An out-of-this-world celebration was underway on May 4, in Hollywood where friends, family, and fans gathered to witness the unveiling of Carrie Fisher’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In attendance at this Hollywood Chamber of Commerce event were many colleagues from Lucasfilm including, President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy, Writer and Director of Star Wars: Episodes 7 and 9 J.J. Abrams, The Last Jedi Producer Ram Bergman, and her on-screen brother Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill. Hamill and Fisher’s daughter Billy Lourde spoke during the ceremonies hosted by radio DJ Ellen K.

Ellen K came out to a crowd of adoring Carrie Fisher fans, who were ready for ceremonies to commence honoring the actress. Known as a princess in A Galaxy Far Far Away, she meant so much to the Star Wars fans who lined up Hollywood Blvd and her family who were there to join daughter Billie in accepting the honor on her mother’s behalf. This honor was given to Fisher posthumously who passed away in late 2015.

Both Hamill and Lourde spoke about what Carrie meant to Star Wars fans on and off the screen. The speakers both emphasized how much she loved her fans. Billie recalled her mother’s tendency to “be the last one to leave at conventions”, her dedication to her fan base was real and authentic.

While Hamill spoke about his relationship with his “sister” and his own adoration of her and their own special bond, it was Lourde who spoke about this amazing woman as only a daughter could.  She recalled how her mom ” Growing up like any other kid, I thought my mom was a little bit ok, but a lot embarrassing.” She went on time to recall anecdotes about her mother and what it meant to be her daughter, including recalling her first time watching Star Wars which she knew she was in because Fisher would try to get young Billie to watch it several times growing up.

Billie now a “Star Wars” star in her own right (she starred in all three of Disney’s era new trilogy of films), touched upon her mother’s own words on her more difficult life and times ” her candor about her mental illness and drug abuse, has inspired people from around world to speak about their struggles, it’s one of the things about her I’m most proud of…One of my favorite quotes from hers is Take your broken heart and make it into art”.

Both of these important takeaways from her life, resonate with Star Wars fans everywhere who got to know Fisher better from her convention appearances to her tweets where she shared her honest and humorous anecdotes on life.

Disney Animation

Billie’s closing remarks also included a “thank you to the droids” in attendance. C3-PO & R2-D2. The droids poised for pictures with members from past Lucas film projects and members of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce as the star was unveiled. The star which is just a few feet from the marquee of Disney’s own El Captain theater will be there to remind fans of the legacy of Fisher and where so many of her beloved movies year after year.

There was no better way today to celebrate May the 4th than to celebrate the Princess who started it all. She has left a strong Star Wars legacy with her daughter, as well whom Billie thanked for coming out, her beloved Space Uncle, addressing Mark Hamill as her space uncle, she told him at the end of the ceremonies “Thank you so much, I love you so much.”

The bond with these people who have brought us a galaxy far far away is real and was celebrated. It is like Luke Skywalker’s line in the “Last Jedi” where he tells Leia, “No one is ever really gone.” Well Carrie Fisher is not gone, she lives in the hearts and minds of her family and fans. Her legacy is now truly cemented this day on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
