The Flash has returned and through the power of the speed force is bringing together a new band of super friends on what is sure to be a wild ride for DC fans. Ezra Miller is back and this time, making us all take a double take as Barry Allen and as you guessed it, Barry Allen.
The duality of Miller is the focus of the new film, weaving a story that becomes more compelling as the film sprints to the epic finish. Portraying Allen in two universal variants, we are once again brought into the multiverse, but before you think this is like what we’ve seen before, you may want to think again. For comic book and super hero movie fans alike, this movie really makes it work, bringing the pivotal elements of the iconic storyline, Flashpoint, to life. This makes The Flash the best multiverse movie of the year.
The Academy Award-winning formula for movies as portrayed in last year’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” has set a new standard for what makes for a compelling multiverse film, personal stakes, and a story with heart. This superhero movie has both while also containing some of the most exciting sequences ever brought to a superhero movie.
All this is done so wonderfully by a fantastic cast. There are two portrayals of the fastest man alive, while also getting two of the best portrayals of Batman back to the big screen, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck.
The driving force of the Flash in this film is his personal tragedy, the murder of his mother when he was a child. For fans familiar with Flashpoint, this film drives the themes into overdrive, bringing Allen face to face with his tragic past, pushing him down a path that puts the very fabric of the multiverse in the balance.
Unlike Bruce who has become Batman to spare others of the tragedy he faced, Barry has come to his motivation to become a hero in a very different way. He adopted his alter ego, while Bruce created his to help others. It is this difference that gives the story personal stakes as our main character ends up committing an act based on this which sets the story into motion.
The opening sequence aside from being large as well as one of the most exciting comic book sequences in recent memory is one of the only sequences that portray the DECU as we know it. Superhero action and drama are masterfully directed by Andy Muschietti in the world where we know Bruce Wayne’s Batman being portrayed by Ben Affleck as well as other familiar DECU regulars. It is not only in the main DECU timeline that he directs his cast but especially in the alternate past which our main character creates.
It’s only after Barry tries to change his tragic past that we meet some scene-stealing versions of our favorite characters. Keaton’s return as Batman is what gives the film some of that extra movie magic while also helping ground the personal stakes in this film. It really is exciting to see Keaton’s Batman suit up again and even if mostly assisted with CGI rendering, it is awesome to see him kick butt. Ultimately Barry Allen’s character development and motivations here are most influenced by the wisdom of the first and the most iconic Batman on the big screen.
The introduction of Sasha Calle as Supergirl is less exciting in thisfilm, but her inclusion in the story can be recognized as valiant as the character’s action sequences are also what adds to this being one of the best superhero movies of all time. In the film her power level and strength are great and the action sequences that move forward are awesome to watch, but her character does not convincingly reach the heights and the humanity the rest of the cast takes us.
Calle plays well against this great cast and even goes toe to toe with the first villain of the DECU, General Zod. Michael Shannon makes a return as an alternate version of his character, however, this Supergirl’s stakes aren’t enough to leave the same impact when faced with Keaton’s Batman. Ultimately both characters are along for the ride and you are left wanting more, even if one is a newcomer and one is now a film icon.
The CGI makes Miller’s performance convincing and is done well, after a few minutes, you’ll find yourself more engaged with their story than the movie magic involved in getting them there. It is the dynamic that these two characters that Miller plays develop that make for a great movie, that presents what it is to struggle to move beyond personal tragedy. The heart and soul that many superhero films lately have been lacking are found here and work almost flawlessly.
Beyond that, it is these performances from Miller that make this film one of the best superhero stories told. The Flash is back and the fans are going to love him. What Andy Muschietti has been able to do here is nothing short of fantastic. So Run don’t walk to watch The Flash Only in Theaters on June 16.

While D23 Expo is known for being the ultimate Disney Fan event, where new announcements from the company surprise and delight park guests and moviegoers alike, one of the other facets is the historical content largely presented by the Walt Disney Archives. These presentations give the viewers new insight and appreciation into the innovative work that went into creating the current Walt Disney Company.
One great example was “Building Walt’s Florida Project: Walt Disney World from Dream to Reality,” a presentation that looked at the seminal days of Walt Disney World with accounts from the cast members who had been there at the beginning.
The panel was made up of Tom Nabbe, Disneyland’s original Tom Sawyer who ultimately ended up as manager of distribution services for WDW; Debby Dane Browne, first WDW ambassador; Peggie Fariss, Disneyland ride operator selected to go to Florida and work the press event announcing the plans for the first phase of Walt Disney World’s construction who stayed to ultimately Imagineer attractions in parks around the world; and Bob Gurr, attraction designer and transportation specialist with Imagineering for almost four decades.
Highlights
Gurr on what Walt was trying to achieve: “Well, you know, that’s a hypothetical question and I get it all the time. I have to answer it this way: I worked with Walt for twelve years, and I could look him in the face and I’d have no idea what he was thinking. But if you look at your history, Walt never did anything over. He was always finishing one thing, had 10,000 thoughts growing up next and he kicked one of those immediately and he’d charge off in that direction, so there was no way to ever know what he was going to do next. It was some little hints–sometimes it was different–but what you finally saw was where he went and I would say today to answer that hypothetical question, he’d be finding the best technology to find how to tell stories better and he’d be just ripping around as fast as any of us.”
First impressions of the site?
Nabbe: “Well, I thought Disneyland was in the boonies when we moved from Los Angeles to Anaheim, but we left civilization and drove for another 20 minutes out there through this palmetto bush area and when we got there, Bob Matheison was sort of our guide, and he was pointing out how that castle’s gonna be here, and we’re going to refill the Bay Lake with white sand, but it was out in the boonies.
Dane Browne: “The first time I actually saw the property probably was in 1969. It was a moonscape. It was craters and earth moved and swamps…a few Gators here and there and snakes and I went…Honestly, I went home, I said “Dad, they say we’re opening October 1st of 71, but I don’t see it.””
Fariss: “As Tom and Debbie were saying, you could drive for 20 minutes from Orlando to where the Contemporary Resort Hotel is today and all you would see would be orange groves. Big, big commercial orange groves and these pine forests. And if you were driving south, you could probably drive to Lake Okeechobee before you hit anything. And so I saw it in 1969 at the press conference and we drove through all of that wilderness and then emerged onto the construction site where they were excavating the Seven Seas Lagoon. It was just a monumental project. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Gurr: “Well, a few months after the world found out what our internal secret Project X was, we were on The Mouse (Walt Disney’s Grumman Gulfstream I plane,) which you saw downstairs. We went down to 1000 feet, lowered the flaps a bit, fly as slow as possible and the pilots drove us around the property line which took 20 minutes. I remember looking out the window…These people down there–there’s sinkholes, one cabin–they have no idea what we’re going to do to Orlando. I think I still have the pictures I took out the window that day, but that was the shock of shocks: “Walt bought what?!”
Peggie Fariss
Fariss on the 1960 press event: “There was a large circus tent erected. The model that you see there was installed in that tent, along with lots and lots of artwork and models. So our opportunity was really a three-day event and we hosted the press and we hosted leaders of American industry and we hosted members of the Florida Legislature and the idea was to introduce them to something that nobody had ever done.So you couldn’t say, “well, this will be like…” because there wasn’t anything like it.You could say, “well, there’s Disneyland, but then we’re really extending this whole experience into hospitality and recreation, and so you’ll really be able to immerse yourself in all the adventures,” and we got such a great reaction. I think we were so excited about it, our enthusiasm was pretty contagious.”
Bob Gurr
Gurr on designing a new set of monorails for WDW: “Well the monorail system we were to refer to as the Mark 4 for Florida was an outgrowth of the Disneyland Mark 3 model, which was an outgrowth of trying to get the original Mark 1 monorail to work well.
“So we spent a lot of time making a better monorail in very great detail. We learned about the Florida project going to need many many miles of monorail so the Mark 3 program morphed into the 4 by simply making the same basic train longer and wider to the larger beam, but at the same time changing the body structure completely from kind of a standard construction to an advanced racecar type of honeycomb type of structure with custom extrusions because we had to carry a lot more weight and people and we saw some were going to be a little bit bigger in Florida and the air conditioner requirements.
“So the train was quite a radical train at its time and oddly enough we wound up designing it in Glendale and Burbank, building it all over the United States with different suppliers, and all the parts being sent down to Martin Marietta in Orlando for the final assembly and shipment to the site. So it was a very lengthy project that ultimately had ten 10-car trains.”
Tom Habbe
Nabbe on operating the new monorails: “Well, we were supposed to have six monorails. On opening day we had three and a half. You never knew that monorails at Walt Disney World would operate in both directions–monorails at Disneyland only operated in one direction, and we would have to end up driving the train all day through the periscope and driving it back if we wanted them. We finally got up to about six trains around the first year around Christmas time.
“But yeah, it was a challenge every day as Bob was saying, as about 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon we’d take a summary of how many vehicles that we had in the transportation system in order to get people out of the park. Then we’d look at what the import count was and then we figure out what our theoretical capacity to get people out and if the park was quite crowded, the duty manager would come on the PA system, and pretty much tell folks, “for your convenience, we’re going to stay open another hour and a half” or “another two hours” because we didn’t have enough vehicles to get people out by six o’clock.”
Debby Dane Browne, Peggie Fariss
Dane Browne on getting restricted from touring the construction site: “…We would take these guests out, and it might be governmental officials, lessees, participants that we were courting to join us, there would be our folks that had already companies that had already come on board with Walt Disney World.
“So we would bring them out onto the property we would stop at what was going to be the Stolport, which is the short takeoff and landing airport. Then, we would stop in that general area and as Miss Peggy and everybody had mentioned there was the Contemporary balloon would be ahead of us to the north and northeast a little bit, then there would be the castle balloon. So we would get off and show them all this and we’re talking about again, it was a construction site of enormous proportions.
“And then we would look over to where the castle was the Polynesian, and we would get back on the bus and we would stop at the golf courses and talk about the construction there. From there we would go to Bill Evans Tree Farm, which was so much fun. Everybody loved to see the topiaries. Again, we would all get off and we would look at the topiaries and all of the trees.
“We did this several times, and then we got back to the Preview Center one time, and Billie Hoelscher, who was our boss–he was out on the steps and kind of like this when we got off and we went “oh yikes, something’s up.” And he called us up…he said “you can’t get off the buses anymore. You have stopped construction and Dick (Nunis) has already called so you can not get off those buses anymore” because our costumes were short. It was 1970 and we were in heels. So from then on, I always had to have Dick’s permission to go out on the property.”
Memories from the grand dedication ceremonies?
Nabbe: “Well, we had a lot of celebrities and a lot of them were staying in the hotels and how did you get to the Magic Kingdom from the hotels? By monorail.
“And so I made sure I figured out the Magic Kingdom Station to make sure that if we had any problem we could immediately address it. One of the things when they released all the pigeons for the opening, they flew around once then they came and landed on the beam and I was sure the train was going to come through it. But yeah, it was spectacular. The balloons must have really messed with the radar at Orlando Airport because it just covered the sky with red, white, blue, and green balloons. Amazing.”
Dean Browne: “The big dedication day itself on the 25th was beautiful and perfect and it really touched my heart. I had a great honor, which was not lost on me, to escort Lillian Disney Truyens in one of the cars to her seat. So we started backstage and got in one of the Main Street vehicles and sat with her…to be with her on the day that Walt Disney World was dedicated…I could only imagine everything that went through her head. And here she is, this wonderful, beautiful, kind lady–it amazed me because I was riding with her and I thought some people don’t even know who this is. This remarkable woman, Walt’s partner…she named Mickey Mouse, for Pete’s sake! I would be saying, Mortimer.
“And then of course the other thing was when Roy spoke and dedicated Walt Disney World and called Mickey up was probably one of the most beautiful moments in my Disney history, and I feel like I grew up with Walt Disney World. It’s been my life, so that moment stands out. Just huge. It’s bigger than life.”
Fariss: “So October 1st I had an office in the contemporary in the South building, and my responsibility was a supervisor of guest activities. So my team was responsible for guest information in the hotel lobbies and the childcare for the Mickey Mouse club, and the Mouseketeer clubhouses, and one of my hostesses was so excited that she had forgotten her shoes. So luckily, we were the same size and I donated my shoes to my cast member. So I spent October 1st in my office in the hotel room.I couldn’t leave ’cause I was barefoot, so I missed the whole thing. So I was thrilled that for dedication weekend I could actually be out and see some of the festivities.
“And so the picture you see looking down Main Street with the parade coming down Main Street and the sky filled with balloons–I was standing next to the photographer Gary Krueger, who took that picture and was assisting with some VIP seating on the train station area. But it was such a remarkable moment. That photograph to me culminates everything I had been thinking about. And it was real, you know? I’d seen it when it was dirt and to see it all come up out of the ground and…you know how many people had brought their incredible talent to deliver this dream of Walt’s and that Roy was so dedicated to seeing his brother’s vision come to life and dedicating it to Walt Disney just meant so much to me.”
The Walt Disney Family Museum is honored to host Disney Cats & Dogs, a traveling exhibition originally presented in 2021 by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library, Walt Disney Archives, and Disney Japan at Matsuya Ginza—the historic department store in Tokyo—before traveling to additional destinations in Japan.
In conjunction with this year’s celebration of The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary, this unique and exciting exhibition will be on view for the first time in the United States from Saturday, June 24, 2023, through Sunday, January 14, 2024.
Disney Cats & Dogs explores the evolution and innovation of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ animal-inspired animation and storytelling through the decades, and the massive undertaking involved in bringing their iconic cats and dogs to life on screen.
From loveable main characters like Mickey Mouse’s best pal Pluto, Lady and Tramp from Lady and the Tramp (1955), Pongo and Perdita from One Hundred and One Dalmatians, Duchess from The Aristocats (1970), and Oliver from Oliver & Company (1988), to supporting sidekicks such as Lucifer from Cinderella (1950) and Percy from Pocahontas (1995), Walt Disney’s love for animals and proclivity for starring cats and dogs in his films has led to their endearing portrayals and prominence in Disney’s animated and live-action films to this day.
This extensive collection of over 300 archival reproduction concept sketches, paintings, model sheets, animation drawings, posters, photographs, digital artworks, and final film sequences highlight the true-to-life design and movements of Disney’s speaking and non-verbal cats and dogs, perfectly paired with their charismatic personalities and quirks that make them such memorable characters.
Walt was once quoted as reflecting, “Animals have personalities like people, and must be studied.” By 1930, he had supported an animation training program for his artists to better understand both human and animal anatomy, with live animals often brought into the Studios for the artists to observe and sketch up close.
As evidenced in Bambi (1942), Walt’s artists were able to successfully bring their cast of animal characters to the big screen with realistic movements and mannerisms, while also elevating their individuality and attitudes, ultimately solidifying them as some of Disney’s most beloved animated characters for generations to come.
This exhibition also gives visitors an insight into Walt’s love of animals with archival photographs, quotes, and personal stories on display. Walt’s family cared for many cats and dogs throughout his life, and he often found inspiration for sequences in his films from these animal friends.
Even in the early days of the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio—known today as The Walt Disney Company—Walt would create roles for his Uncle Robert Disney’s German Shepherd, Peggy. Her live-action debut in the Alice Comedies in 1924 marked the first appearance of a real-life Disney dog, and she quickly became a fan favorite.
“Serving both as best friends and heroes of the story, cats and dogs have played a key role in the success of certain Disney films,” says Executive Director of The Walt Disney Family Museum, Kirsten Komoroske. “I am excited to expand the museum’s collaborative relationship with the Walt Disney Animation Research Library and Walt Disney Archives—as well as our new partnership with Disney Japan—by bringing this whimsical and vibrant exhibition to San Francisco.”
The wide array of drawings, paintings, photographs, and posters on view in Disney Cats & Dogs have been provided by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library (ARL) and Walt Disney Archives. The Animation Research Library works to conserve the heritage of the Walt Disney Animation Studios, and the Walt Disney Archives conserves the heritage of The Walt Disney Company.
Both serve as resources to the Company for creative inspiration, research, brand enhancement, and product development. Most importantly, the ARL carefully stores, digitizes, and archives works of art related to Disney animation so that they can be studied and appreciated by future generations.
Many of the delicate works that were sourced for this exhibition—such as original watercolor paintings and pastel illustrations from as early as the 1930s—are at risk of being damaged if removed from storage. While the appreciation of original art is undeniably valuable, there are significant benefits to engaging with reproductions in certain contexts, such as interactive elements within gallery spaces.
By utilizing professional-grade reproductions in Disney Cats & Dogs, we can provide visitors with a broader and more inclusive range of educational and creative activities without the risk of damaging irreplaceable masterpieces. This approach also allows museum guests the opportunity to see the unique details of these historic artworks up close.
Family-friendly interactives and public programs offered throughout the run of the exhibition will include a pet portrait drawing station, rotating activities with the museum’s Studio Team, community events with local shelters and organizations, and monthly screenings of films showcased in Disney Cats & Dogs.
The Museum Store will have imported exhibition merchandise from Disney Japan, created especially for this exhibition.
Disney Cats & Dogs will open to the public in The Walt Disney Family Museum’s Diane Disney Miller Exhibition Hall from Saturday, June 24, 2023 through Sunday, January 14, 2024.
With summer just around the corner, Black Tap Anaheim has some tasty new offerings for the month of June that will surely please any pallet. For a limited time, you can try The Little Mermaid Shake, Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, the Father’s Day Boss Burger, and the ever-popular Pride Crazy Shake with a specialty donut and candy.
We tried these new offerings which include new takes on craft sandwiches and their delicious crazy shakes. The classic mermaid shake was a sweet creamy mix of strawberry and blueberry with pieces of fruit mixed in. The shake was a stripped-down version of the sugar candy-loaded shakes found on the list but was perfect for those who want to enjoy a treat with flavor.
The Limited Hot Chicken Sandwich was a welcome addition. This hot chicken trend that is sweeping across America has hit Black Tap and this spicy sandwich has come to impress. It is a mature chicken sandwich, that doesn’t come to play but comes to please. Its simple ingredients guaranteed a delicious meal that was not overblown with spice but appeared as an aftertaste when biting into it. Any good sandwich should be served with fries and they complement this entree and make for a filling meal that is an unexpected surprise but a welcome one.
To celebrate Father’s Day we tried the Boss Burger (available one day June 18) double bacon cheeseburger that is indeed suited for a king. Take your loved ones to try this burger on Father’s Day and they will love and be grateful. With two large patties and as well as bacon strips, this will take one special dad to devour it all. The challenge of finishing this burger will remind him to enjoy all the savory bites that come along with it. Embarking on a cruise adventure offers a perfect blend of relaxation, exploration, and excitement. Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or preparing for your first voyage, knowing what to pack can significantly enhance your overall experience. To help you make the most of your cruise vacation, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of essential items to pack. From practical necessities to personal comforts, these items will ensure you’re well-prepared for a memorable journey on the high seas.
Travel Documents:
Before setting sail, gather all necessary travel documents, including your passport, identification, visas, cruise tickets, and any required medical certificates. Keep them in a waterproof and easily accessible folder or bag to ensure a smooth boarding process.
Clothing Essentials:
Cruise vacations often involve a variety of activities, from poolside relaxation to formal dinners and on-shore excursions. Pack a range of clothing options, including swimwear, casual outfits, and elegant attire for formal evenings. Don’t forget essentials such as comfortable shoes, hats, sunglasses, and lightweight jackets for breezy evenings on deck.
Toiletries and Medications:
Pack a well-stocked toiletry kit with travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, and sunscreen. Many cruise cabins provide basic toiletries, but it’s always a good idea to bring your preferred brands. Additionally, include any prescription medications and a basic first aid kit containing items like pain relievers, seasickness medication, band-aids, and motion sickness wristbands.
Electronics and Accessories:
Capture unforgettable moments with a camera or smartphone. Ensure you have all the necessary chargers, adapters, and extra memory cards to keep your devices powered throughout the journey. Consider bringing a power strip or multi-socket adapter as cabins often have limited outlets. Don’t forget headphones, a portable charger, and a waterproof case if you plan on using your devices poolside.
Cruise-Specific Items:
Depending on the cruise line and destination, there may be specific items you’ll need. Check if there are any dress code requirements, themed nights, or specific equipment for activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, or formal events. Some cruise lines offer laundry services, but it’s useful to pack a small travel-size detergent for handwashing clothes if needed.
Entertainment and Recreation:
While cruises offer a plethora of onboard activities, there might be downtime during sea days or evenings. Bring books, magazines, or a Kindle for leisurely reading. Card games, portable board games, or a deck of cards can be great for socializing with fellow passengers. If you enjoy swimming or lounging by the pool, pack a waterproof e-reader or a floating device to keep your books dry.
Travel Accessories:
A few well-chosen travel accessories can make your cruise experience more comfortable. Pack a collapsible water bottle to stay hydrated during excursions and activities. Consider a small day bag or backpack for shore excursions to carry essentials like sunscreen, a towel, a hat, and a water bottle. A sturdy, TSA-approved lock will provide peace of mind when securing your belongings in your cabin or during shore excursions.
Packing wisely is essential for an enjoyable and stress-free cruise vacation. By considering the specific needs of your trip, including destination, cruise line, and activities planned, you can tailor your packing list accordingly. Remember to pack travel documents, clothing essentials, toiletries, electronics, cruise-specific items, entertainment options, and travel accessories. By following this comprehensive guide, you’ll be well-prepared for an unforgettable cruise adventure that combines relaxation, exploration, and exciting new experiences. Bon voyage!
Knott’s Berry Farms Summer Nights has begun and part of the Summer Nights the Flavors of Summer has begun. Featuring an all-new menu that spans the park with different restaurants and areas serving special food items. Some are included in the meal plan that is well known for frequent visitors of the park, however, this menu is best enjoyed using the Summer Tasting Card for $55 (Valid during Knott’s Summer on select dates May 26 – September 4, 2023), where you can enjoy 6 tastings of your choice.
We started at the Boardwalk BBQ where we tried two items from the menu; Summer Pasta and Steak Salad and Mexican Pineapple Pork Sandwich.
The items which are the main entrees offered for the occasion at this location are served from a quick service style line, and can easily be overlooked on the menu if not looking for them.
This steak salad had a fair amount of meat atop the salad. These small chunks of steak gave the salad its name but do little to improve this already streamlined salad. What is in the name is what you get, a pasta salad with steak which also includes a very light dressing.
The taste will suffice for this dish that leaves much to be desired, with no rich or savory flavors that should come in the dressing. This is one only worth trying if you are craving a salad dish.
The Mexican Pineapple Pork Sandwich was a delight to try for our second tasting (pic above). The sandwich was savory and sweet and was loaded with coleslaw and pineapple chunks on sweet bread stuffed with pulled pork. These sandwich’s found at other similar events tend to try to reinvent the concept of the sandwich, what this does so well is simply pairing a meat that is usually so juicy and savory on its own when done right. The sweet Mexican-influenced sauce pairs well with the rest of the sandwich that can fill you up for whatever time of the day you decide to try it.
We next made our way to the Coasters Diner where you can try the Papas Mexicanas served with Lemon Butter and Garlic Shrimp Fries. The Fries were of a smaller cut served in a relatively deeper bowl than expected, this generous portion had melted cheese sitting on top with a larger scoop of guacamole and pico de gallo. All this is stuffed with garlic shrimp that comes with lemon butter to make for one juicy platter to enjoy hopefully with someone else.
The Summer Nights Menu sprawls throughout the park into the temporary booths beyond the concert stage. We decided to try one item from the grilled booth, we went for an item familiar at any bbq, a hotlink. The hotlink is served with a chimichurri sauce atop vegetables, which is actually hot. Be aware if you order this item as it’s very spicy. The sauce is heavily dressed on top with a sweet bun and the vegetables give the special item a juicy quality. Try this one if you dare. If you like spicy and sweet this is the item for you.
After having this spicy item, we decided to try just another item from that menu, something a little more simple and reliable; a burger. The Blue Cheese and Bacon Cheeseburger Slider with a Pickle Mayo was a great choice. For anyone who enjoys blue cheese, this is a great burger. The meat was juicy, and the blue cheese and bacon with pickle mayo gave that crunch that you will find on a loaded burger. This burger is a must-try for any burger aficionado that is visiting the festival.
We then made our way on the other side of the tracks, back to Ghost Town, on the edge of Calico we found the Chow House Side Window. There they served a Cucumber, Black Cherry, Mango, and Ginger Mint Agua Fresca. After the food we had, we decided a refreshing drink was in order. We ordered the Ginger Mint Agua Fresca, it was the refreshment we were looking for. An Agua Fresca which has grown in popularity in Southern California is familiar to many guests. The team at Knott’s got that authentic taste with this version of the drink. If it is refreshing, fresh, and sweet, with a special twist of Ginger Mint.
Next is the Prop Shop Pizzeria to try the Chicken, Pesto, and Sundried Tomato Flatbread. The flatbread although a good “pizza” was not great. What you find on the pizza is exactly in the name, those toppings made for the potential for a great pizza however with the way the flatbread is served, not precut and still shaped like a personal pizza, it gives us the thought that perhaps this was a lazy attempt at a flatbread. It was difficult to eat we had to tear the pieces and eat the “slices”. Hopefully, you can find a better way to work on this “flatbread”, because we couldn’t. We simply wish that it was as good as the concept looked like on the menu.
We also had some desserts throughout the day, and the ones we tried varied for us, but what they had in common is that they could be enjoyed as sweet snacks or to help compliment your meals for the day if done right. These sweet treats were not unique items on any summer list, however, their concepts were. The first dessert we tried was at the Gourmet Churro Factory where we enjoyed the Beignets with Lemon Powdered Sugar. The dessert tasted simple as you find it in other venues, the lemon was a light hint, doing little to set it apart from other similar tastes. It was enjoyable as a dessert, just not a standout.
The last dessert we tried was found at Charleston Circle Coffee, a glorified S’mores bar. The chocolate was rich, drizzled on a graham cracker and the bar itself was large almost too rich. It was the sweetest bar we’ve ever had. Marshmallows are large and the crunch that comes with each bite and the sweetness that comes with each taste is what makes this the best dessert you might find at this large and sprawling taste of the summer.
With so many offerings during Knott’s Summer Nights, we hope this gives you an idea of what to try and what to enjoy. This article features a little less than half of all the items available and we are still looking forward to trying more on our next visit. So as you plan your next visit to Knott’s, keep in mind that you should make time to try this summer menu.
So whether you enjoy one of these dishes during the day, while Ghost Town Alive! is happening all around you, or whether you are enjoying the sights and sounds of the summer concerts, perhaps you are simply trying the largest sprawling food tasting in all of Southern California, be sure to try some of these dishes, they were enjoyable.
