At CCXP22 (Comic-Con Experience 2022) in São Paulo, Brazil, Marvel Studios debuted the trailer for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, introduced Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in the franchise, before delighting the enthusiastic fans with the trailer debut for the highly anticipated upcoming feature film, releasing in U.S. theaters on May 5, 2023.
In Marvel Studios “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
James Gunn writes and directs “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.
The Walt Disney Company has released the teaser trailer and poster for Lucasfilm’s “INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY,” the highly anticipated fifth installment of the iconic “Indiana Jones” franchise, starring Harrison Ford as the legendary hero archaeologist, and directed by James Mangold (“Ford v Ferrari,” “Logan”).
Starring along with Ford are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), John Rhys-Davies (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”), Shaunette Renee Wilson (“Black Panther”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Das Boot”), Toby Jones (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Oliver Richters (“Black Widow”), Ethann Isidore (“Mortel”) and Mads Mikkelsen (“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”).
Directed by James Mangold, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in 1981, is once again composing the score.
Legacy and legend, two epic words that are filled with mythos, power, and expectation; one cannot help but wonder what that has in store for Disney Plus’ newest adventure, Willow. Thankfully, fans will come to find that they can breathe a sigh of relief when jumping into the series.
With a story that directly follows up the cult 80s fantasy classic, Willow is a brilliant addition to the classic film, branching into a new generation that will excite fans new and old. Lucasfilm has really outdone themselves in this mystical adventure for the ages that blends together plenty of classic nods to the original, fun surprises, and edge of your seat action that doesn’t steal away from the rest of the story. Though in a world dominated by Star Wars and Indiana Jones, where did the idea come for Willow to return?
The tale began early in Disney’s reign over Lucasfilm vault, and according to Willow himself, Warrick Davis, was in talks a lot longer than fans may have anticipated. It all comes back to the production of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and in an exclusive press interview, Davis and head writer for the Willow series, Jon Kasdan, discussed what it took to bring the world of Willow back for a new adventure.
“I mean, there was the… there was the impulse certainly between Ron and Warwick and myself to continue this story, and return to this world. And I came at it as a fan, and they came at it both as the creators, and they found a champion in me, and I kept fighting and sort of hoping that we’d get a chance to go back,” Kasdan shared.
Though Davis also admitted he didn’t know if he would ever get to see Willow return, but the interest was definitely always there, never forgetting the masses of loyal fans who helped make Willow stand out in a crowd filled with fantastical stories and tales.
“For years it’s been talked about, not by anyone official but by the fans. They’ve constantly pestered me, saying “when are we going to see a sequel to that movie?” And it’s a question that I could never answer…until I met Jon Kasdan, who I understood was also a fan. And I wondered on the set of Solo who had let him onto set. You know, no fans allowed here, because he was obsessed, talking about Willow.
In an era filled with exclusive streaming content, it takes a special kind of magic to stand out with powerhouse franchises such as Amazon’s Rings of Power, HBO’s Game of Thrones adaptations, as well as Netflix’s School for Good and Evil. What separates Willow from the ever growing competition is its deep connection to its roots, and the magic touch of Lucasfilm’s creative team.
Like many of the early ILM era films, this project has a real sense of craftsmanship and world building, brought to life in a way where fans can recapture that sense of whimsy seen in the Lucas era, all the while pushing forward into the unknown through the use of this new cast.
It’s a passing of the torch done right, with a huge gamble in doing so paying off. As fans watch the story unfold, it will be difficult not to see how genuine the connections are through the use of veteran storytelling and the new cast willing to take the leap and make their own mark within the legacy of Willow.
“With every episode you’re sort of walking the line between, between making it familiar and satisfying what fans expect from the brand Willow, and then trying to push it forward and tell a story that’s surprising and unexpected. And you know, the great weapon we had with us was Warwick, who just lent the whole universe of Willow credibility, and the moment you see him on screen, you suddenly believe these six other foolish kids could somehow fit into that world, and really inhabit it. And they did so so beautifully and with such gusto and enthusiasm. And authenticity, that it was sort of an amazing thing to watch all these things come together, and become something that feels like a progression from the movie as much as a love letter to it”, said Kasdan.
Davis is joined by Solo alumn, Erin Kellyman, as well as newcomers Dempsey Bryk (Airk), Ruby Cruz (Kit), Ellie Bamber (Dove), Amar Chadha-Patel (Boorman), and Spider-Man star Tony Revolori (Graydon).
Kellyman is a true standout, bringing in the same powerful energy felt in both her outings in Solo, as well as her work in the Marvel’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Yet, she’s not alone with Chada-Patel and Ruby Cruz brandishing their swashbuckling skills in stunning fashion.
Don’t let that distract you from the slower moving moments in their story though, as every member of this new ensemble comes together and lends some much needed heart that helps unfold a beautiful balance of drama and action in this early introduction to the series. A big portion of that comes from Ellie Bamber, who introduces a new perspective for fans in her role as Dove and definitely is a player to keep an eye on as the series continues.
Davis spoke about his new ensemble with an abundance of admiration, helping him overcome the challenges of returning to his legendary role all these years later. “The rest of the cast there, these dare I say young cast, were great support to me, and immensely helpful getting me through the whole process.”
“But yeah, I mean, they’re the challenges. Also, doing the original material justice, I suppose. You know, having the kind of, the weight of the… the fans with me, wanting to do the very best job that we could, and deliver a series that everyone could enjoy, be it the fans of the original and the new audience we hope to bring to this show as well.”
In looking back at his time on set, Davis also reminded everyone of what makes this so special, even looking beyond just the initial episodes of this new series. “What makes projects special are the people, not the… not the material, the character, it’s the people you work with.
You know, this amazing ensemble cast we have here, and Jon our writer, the various directors we had throughout the series as well. And also the creatives at the top of the ladder, namely Kathleen Kennedy and Ron Howard himself as well, presiding over everything. He was kind of like our Yoda, I suppose.
Leapin’ Lizards! Annie is back in town! Annie is the heartwarming story of an orphan named Annie in a 1933 New York Orphanage who is an optimist at her core. She was left at the orphanage with two clues that suggest her parents will return for her, but 11 years later, they have not. Miss Hannigan, the head of the Orphanage, is cruel to the children, as she sees her role as a means to an end and not a passion.
Oliver Warbucks, the richest man in the United States, is set to have an orphan brought to his home for two weeks over Christmas. In that time, Warbucks grows close to Annie and decides to adopt her, but the two weeks are not quite as seamless as they thought.
From the moment the house rules were delivered by the child actors, my heart was warmed. However, for me, the vocal delivery in Annie—specifically by Annie—can make or break the show. The show opens with “Maybe” and Bronte Harrison was a stand-out immediately as Molly. Her performance broke my heart! Ellie Pulsifer gave an amazing and heartfelt performance as Annie that was sung with soul, and not with a cheesy over-the-top-accent. “It’s the Hard Knock Life” was presented wonderfully with the right amount of theatrics and dancing to showcase the talents of the actors.

Pulsifer continues to deliver crisp and emotional vocals through “We’d Like to Thank You”. Addison, a rescue dog, wooed the entire audience in her performance as Sandy, the street dog Annie finds when she first escapes the Orphanage. Miss Hannigan is a complicated character because she is written so funny, but you’re also supposed to hate her. Stefanie Londino delivered on both in a way that was refreshing from other performances I’ve seen. Londino (Miss Hannigan) delivered a performance that was physically funny and well-spoken/sang without going too far into being a caricature.
Hands down, the stand-out vocalist on this tour is Julia Nicole Hunter as Grace Farrell, WOW! What a voice! Every song she sang was an absolute delight. Christopher Swan as Oliver Warbucks was great. Despite his character’s gruff demeanor on introduction, Swan performed in a way that allowed Warbucks to be warm and likeable from the start; a foreshadowing to the person we would eventually know him to be. “Easy Street” was a hilarious number, carried primarily by Stefanie Londino (Miss Hannigan) and Krista Curry (Lily). Curry’s character voice for her role as Lily is grating in the best way, reminiscent of Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors or Lina Lamont in Singin’ In The Rain.

Mark Woodard also did a great job in the role of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. How quickly I got completely engrossed in caring about these characters said a lot about the acting prowess of the Cast. I cried at least three times, maybe it’s seeing the show again as a mom.
The sets were beautiful, simple, and effective. Minimal set pieces were utilized and were able to be quickly moved in and out of scenes by the ensemble. Wilson Chin did a great job building not only the setting, but the feeling of a scene, through use of color and props. Chin’s sets and the actors were beautifully highlighted by the lighting design of Philip Rosenberg.
The costume design by Alejo Vietti was lovely, especially for the celebration at Oliver Warbucks’ home over Christmas. Annie’s purple coat stood out against the blandness of a New York winter in a way that is symbolic of her bright-eyed optimism in the face of never-ending adversity. If you are looking for some optimism to kick off this Holiday season, head down to grab your tickets to share in the wonder of Annie.

The Legacy of Isla Nublar will take 1 to 4 players on various adventures across the entire timeline of the Jurassic Saga, giving them a chance to take on the roles of iconic park founder, John Hammond and visionary Simon Masrani, transforming the island of Isla Nublar into the world’s foremost theme park filled with one of a kind sights and attractions unlike no other.
This RPG will also connect fans with familiar characters that will help shape the story, including the likes of Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Dr. Ian Malcolm, as well as Jurassic World personnel such as Claire Dearing and Dr. Henry Wu, each with their own part to play in creating a legacy all your own.
Split into twelve separate adventure stories, players will help shape the layout of the park, with each round being just as exciting and perilous as the next. Throughout the game, you will be responsible for the creation of brand new dinosaurs, unlocking DNA and being held accountable for all your choices. Just like Hammond, the lives of your park visitors will be in your hands, and the fate of your island will all come down to the decisions you make as a team, with no going back if things get out of hand.
This game is massive, requiring time and patience as you set up, creating a fully immersive experience that is the perfect adventure for any Jurassic Park fan. Immediately, iconic moments and visuals are brought to life when opening the game for the first time, with more Easter eggs than you can find in an motherlode of mosquito infused amber.
The design stuns, leaving no detail untouched, especially when looking at the beautifully crafted dinosaur figures, each depicting favorite species and in some cases, favorite scenes from these prehistoric creatures.
Fans are also greeted with the famed quote from Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcom, “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should” upon opening the game, providing a weary reminder of the risks you will about to partake in bringing your world to life. It’s a true collectors dream, and a perfect gift for the most hardcore of Jurassic fans.
Stop signs, warnings, and rules are laid out for each adventure, creating a completely unpredictable experience for everyone. Every game has the chance to be different, with the outcomes playing out in real time through each turn of the board.
We had a chance to play the Tutorial Adventure, which acts as a demo and practice environment for the game. Unlike the other adventures, this one is entirely replayable and gives players of all skill levels the chance to practice and get comfortable with the story’s hefty rules and setup.
Though a bit overwhelming at first glance, the payoff is well worth it, as The Legacy of Isla Nublar creates an unparalleled cinematic and immersive experience, transporting you right into the very best that the world of Jurassic Park has to offer. All the while, the game also gives you a clean slate to customize your story and the fate of the island as you see fit, creating an exciting prospect for many fans who may have had their own fantasies about what it would be like to bring the island to life.
You can pick up your copy of Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar by visiting Funko’s official site, or by visiting Amazon’s official listing for the game.
Disney “Strange World” takes on the adventurous spirit of previous Disney animation features like “Atlantis: The Lost Empire” and “Treasure Planet”. Expect more of a sci-fi adventure and less musical showstoppers. But the internal family conflict gets fleshed out in the vein of Disney Encanto.
There is more to uncover in an unseen world both externally and internally. Directed by Don Hall (Big Hero 6, Raya and the Last Dragon), produced by Jennifer Lee (Frozen, Zootopia), written by Qui Nguyen (Raya and the Last Dragon, Netflix’s The Society), and music by Henry Jackman (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Kong: Skull Island).
Inspired by pulp magazines from the beginning of the 20th century. The type of popular fiction of characters like Doc Savage, Flash Gordon, and John Carter always set in determined daring adventures and discovery. There’s also a dash of vintage science fiction thrown in for good measure with the likes of Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth and Disney’s Island at the Top of the World (1955). It’s DuckTales with family trauma.
Centering around Searcher Claude (Jake Gyllenhaal), Jaeger Claude (Dennis Quaid), and Ethan Claude (Jaboukie Young-White), three generations of the Claude family that must learn to accept each other and embark on a deep journey to save their home land of Avalonia. A fantastical new world opens underground revealing unusual flora and creatures. Much like how in “How to Train Your Dragon” there is a push and pull of being a trainer or killer.
The audience gets that with “Strange World” between being an adventurer or farmer. Viewpoints are shared and common ground is found. Jaeger keeps head-on with a mission despite Searcher an alternate solution. They don’t see eye to eye which causes a strain on their relationship. Searcher grows concern and determined for the relationship with his son, Ethan, not to wilt like it did with his father. A common father and son activity occurs that plays into a bounding moment but also passing along a survival skill.
There’s a moment where a word was used between the three main characters that personally shook myself. It’s a word my own mother would use if she feels an outside influence has been corrupting me against her own views. This made me feel my own trauma is seen and valid and that I am not the only person with these feelings.
Watching on the big screen gives the movie scope to the wondrous environment. The 3D treatment will be the cherry on top. The design and colors between the above and below ground levels feels inspired by anime. Not of this Earth, but close to it. The way characters just absorb what appears before them and completely accepts what’s there but alarmed when feel threatened or in physical danger.
Although taking in their surroundings, there’s a lack of feeling the magic of their presence. The close of the movie hinted at a particular mythology that was previously explored in another context for another Disney animated project. As an admirer of mythology, seeing my suspicion reveal itself did bring a smile to my face.
The world of biracial and LGBTQ representation is present but not a point of contention. What is a bigger deal is and of more concern to the plot and characters is saving the world and accepting each other’s differences in ideas and goals, not skin color or where romance is found. The kind of barriers to break down is doing and finding solutions to what they feel is right for the same goal to save lives. Loving someone of another background or sexual orientation doesn’t slow down progress. In fact, it’s never brought up as an issue.
The only thing that’s coming out is the inner monologue of the family members. Side characters are also part of inclusion. Legend is the three legged family dog that joins the multi-generational adventure. Animal lovers may not get enough of him. Splat is a non-verbal entity reminiscent of the magic carpet in Disney’s Aladdin. The real world has a chance to embrace these new characters, or be stuck in a deep hole. Be accepting of outside appearances, be judgmental of behaviors and action.
The humor falls flat, unclear, and uneven. There are a couple jokes that land really well. But it’s not enough to give the film points. The focus was very admirably centered on the design, story, and characters. What is lacking is the light-heartedness and prestige. WALL-E and Star Trek had the grandeur when showcasing the main transportation of the adventure the characters and audience will be taken on with sweeping visuals and engaging music to boost.
Disney Strange World presents wide shots of the main ship’s scale, but without the punch. Where’s the eye-catching moment to give the audience the sense of big things are coming their way? Some of the blocking of camera shots felt like they were left on the cutting room floor. As if this was done on purpose as a cost-saving measure.
Disney Strange World could easily be seen as the next sci-fi animated classic in the league of “Atlantis: The Lost Empire” and “Treasure Planet” with the family hurdles of “How to Train Your Dragon”. With different generations picking apart the viewpoints of the characters, this movie can bring people together or bring out deep beliefs to the surface level. That’s where a lot of criticism will come into play.

In 2023, we will be celebrating the Year of the Rabbit. The Chinese zodiac calendar plays a significant role in shaping the traditions, holidays and foods enjoyed in Asian communities all over the globe.
In Chinese culture, the rabbit has the unique characteristic of waiting for an opportune moment and then leaping into action. More than any other zodiac animal, the rabbit symbolizes luck. We will also be recognizing the Vietnamese zodiac calendar during the Lunar New Year celebration, which marks 2023 as the Year of the Cat.
On-hand to celebrate during Lunar New Year will be Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in their festive attire, plus Mulan and Mushu from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Mulan.”
The centerpiece of the celebration will be “Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession,” a vibrant performance hosted by Mulan and Mushu, that features dozens of spirited parade performers as they honor family, friendship, and the potential for a fortune-filled new year. In 2023, the procession will be extended throughout all of Disney California Adventure along the parade route from Paradise Gardens through Hollywood Land.
The culinary landscape will also expand, with the addition of two new Lunar New Year marketplaces: Bamboo Blessings and Wrapped with Love. They will join the returning marketplaces, including Lucky 8 Lantern, Prosperity Bao & Buns, Red Spice Traders, and Longevity Noodle Co.
With the return of the popular Sip and Savor pass, Guests may choose to taste their way through six mouthwatering food & non-alcoholic beverage selections from participating marketplaces and dining locations.* Purchase for just for themselves, or share with friends!
“Hurry Home – Lunar New Year Celebration” also returns, presented prior to “World of Color.” This heartwarming nighttime water show tells the tale of a little lantern’s quest to reunite with family for the annual celebration of good luck and fortune. During the celebration, Guests can check the Disneyland app for showtimes.
Guests will get to enjoy even more Lunar New Year celebrations with family-friendly fun including crafts, Chinese calligraphy demonstrations and the Lucky Wishes Wall, where Guests can share their hopes for the future/year ahead. Plus, additional tasty treats and festival items will be available at Paradise Garden Grill and Lucky Fortune Cookery.
Also returning beginning Jan. 20, Guests will once again get to see Raya, from the Disney Animation film “Raya and the Last Dragon.” Under a forest canopy deep in the heart of Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, Guests may encounter the heroic Raya, greeting new friends and visiting from the newly reunited lands of Kumandra.
