Avengers: Endgame Blu Ray Review

The record breaking phenomenon has finally made its journey home in Marvel Studios’ new 4K/Blu Ray release of Avengers: Endgame. Packed with extras, behind the scenes looks, and touching memories, the set not only reflects on the epic moments from Endgame, but circles back to the very beginning, discussing the very foundations of the Infinity Saga as a whole. Still, with the box office still recovering from the film’s triumphant release and cinema taking in the scope of it all, it’s hard to believe that this collection is the definitive answer to all that Marvel fans have been waiting for.

To kick things off, let’s take a look at Marvel’s tribute to Stan Lee. Fans that made their way back to the silver screen got a taste of this featurette after the credits, but for those who may have missed it, this is a fantastic look back at Stan’s incredible experience coming into the MCU through his cameos. The smiles and the laughs shine through, showcasing the intimate moments the entire cast has had with Stan, shedding an every bittersweet reminder that we have truly lost a legend. Stan Lee’s legacy lives and breathes throughout the MCU, making this featurette the perfect fit to lead off the extras disc. It’s a sweet farewell worth watching again and again.

The features don’t stop there, bringing forward a tapestry of clips weaved together to showcase over a decade’s worth of character development, showcasing Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow. Every element will make you want to go back and binge the entire MCU, as the highlight reels are littered with behind the scenes reflections on the entire franchise, along with some very empowering moments leading up to Endgame’s epic all female team up sequence. The content you get to see is gold, and has the potential to unlock even more, even if it’s cut a bit shorter than expected.

Here’s a full list of extras included on the Avengers: Endgame Blu-Ray Collection.

BONUS MATERIAL (may vary by retailer):
Digital Exclusive:

  • Steve and Peggy: One Last Dance – Explore Captain America and Peggy Carter’s bond, forged in moments from previous films that lead to a momentous choice in “Avengers: Endgame.”

  • Bro Thor – His appearance has changed but his heroism remains! Go behind the scenes to see how Bro Thor was created.
  • Six Deleted Scenes – “Goji Berries,” “Bombs on Board,” “Suckiest Army in the Galaxy,” “You Used to Frickin’ Live Here,” “Tony and Howard” and “Avengers Take a Knee.”
  • Gag Reel – Laugh along with the cast in this epic collection of flubs, goofs and gaffes from set.

  • Visionary Intro – Intro by directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
  • Audio Commentary – Audio commentary by directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Based off what has been revealed since the release of the film, it’s apparent that Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers have a treasure trove of unreleased content. This set is just a tease of what’s really waiting on the cutting room floor.

For a film so epic in scale, there has to be more, and though it would have been absolutely amazing to receive a multi-disc set that goes beyond the original cut with additional scenes, behind the scenes footage, and possibly an Infinity Saga Documentary, something tells us that there may be something else in the works down the road. Knowing Marvel, they are far from done, and though this may seem like the ending of Endgame’s story, the tale and speculation are far from over.

Summer Paradise at Morongo Casino, Resort and Spa

Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa is a paradise near Palm Springs (photo by Greg Aragon)

Who says you have to go to the beach and fight traffic and hordes of people to escape the heat? Why not head about 90 miles east of Los Angeles and cool down at a luxurious, air-conditioned resort with a giant pool and lazy river, gourmet restaurants, a 4-Diamond hotel, a full-service spa and lots of great slots and gaming. Why not visit Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa?

I recently visited Morongo for a wonderful day and night and I hit the jackpot for fun and relaxation.

My getaway began when a friend and I rounded a bend on the 10 Freeway just west of Palm Springs and saw the majestic, 27-story hotel/casino tower protruding from the desert floor. The next thing we knew, we were checking into a gorgeous Canyon View Suite overlooking the San Gorgonio and San Jacinto mountain ranges.

Located on 23rd floor, our suite came with a private bedroom with a comfy king bed and 55” TV; and a separate living areas with another 55” TV, fully-stocked mini-bar, mini-fridge, coffee maker, couch and chair, and office area. Both of these rooms were highlighted by giant windows overlooking the mountains.

Endgame
The Canyon View suites overlook the beautiful San Gorgonio and San Jacinto mountain ranges.

Other suite amenities included a beautiful bathroom with a walk-in glass shower and oversized jetted whirlpool tubs; plush bathrobes; and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Once acquainted with the room, we headed to the lobby for dinner. The resort is home to some of the best Palm Springs area restaurants. From the upscale, AAA Four-Diamond Award-Winning Cielo, located on the 27th floor, to the Las Vegas-style buffet Potrero Canyon, Morongo offers tasty options for everyone.

Since it was Mariachi Monday at Potrero Canyon buffet we went there and dove into a sea of incredible Mexican and international food. My three plates were stacked with delicious chili verde, chile relleno, beans and rice, blackened cod, and Chinese mint chicken. My friend devoured coconut shrimp, roast beef with mashed potatoes, nachos and more. For dessert we had fresh cheesecake, tarts, and cookies.

From the buffet, we hit the South Pacific Islands-inspired Oasis Pool area, where we grabbed inner tubes and floated down the resort’s meandering lazy river like a couple of stuffed alligators. The outdoor area also features a giant adult pool, a kids pool, a sandy beach, and two heated spa tubs, all surrounded lush gardens, exclusive cabanas, and plush chaise lounges.

Endgame
The Oasis Pool area is a great place to cool off for the entire family

Back inside the hotel, we tried our luck at the 150,000 sq-ft casino, which features over 2,600 slot machines, 74 table games, including a 13-table poker room and a bingo hall with 440 seats and 19-inch TV monitors. While here I played blackjack and my friend played quarter slots.

In the morning I found bliss at Sage – The Spa at Morongo, which takes its name from the fragrant white sage that has grown abundantly in the surrounding hills and canyons. Here I had a rejuvenating 50-minute Swedish massage with eucalyptus oils. Sage offers 14 treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and cold plunge. The spa is also home to Radiance Salon, offering professional hair, manicure and pedicure treatments, as well as waxing services.

After my rubdown, it was back to Oasis Pool for some more relaxing before my next culinary journey at Morongo. That night my friend and I experienced International Tuesdays at Potrero Canyon buffet, where we sampled a host of delightful dishes from around the globe. We had seafood cioppino soup, Mongolian beef, pizza, shrimp, nachos and a lot more.

Other food options at Morongo include a food court with a host of eateries; a poolside bar & grill; and two new venues: Good Times Cafe and Pink Coffee. The 24-hour Good Times Café is infused with a rustic brewhouse atmosphere and offers handcrafted burgers, salads, brick-oven pizza, fresh seafood, steaks and a myriad of pilsners, IPAs, stouts and fine whiskeys. Pink Coffee offers signature roast coffee, velvety sweet house-made gelatos and fine baked goods made by hand in Morongo’s own bakery.

Morongo is also home to world-class entertainment as it welcomes performers such as Michael Buble, Enrique Iglesias, and Natalie Cole to name a few. For upcoming shows, visit their website.

The resort is currently undergoing a 65,000-sq-ft expansion that when complete in 2020 will increase its existing gaming floor by more than 30 percent, add new restaurants, and a free valet parking structure with 750 spaces.

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa is located at 49500 Seminole Dr. Cabazon, 92230. For more info and reservations, visit www.morongocasinoresort.com or call (800) 252-4499.

Legends of the Queen Mary: A Theatrical Séance

The season of the witch is upon us as summer comes to a close and fall rises.  Naturally, all things spooky will be creeping their way to the surface.  What better way to summon the spirits than those that haunt the legendary Queen Mary ship in Long Beach.  Who are you gonna call to host such an auspicious occasion?  Master magician and apparitionist Aiden Sinclair dares to lead.  After making appearances on “America’s Got Talent”, “Penn & Teller: Fool Us”, and engagements in the equally haunting Stanley Hotel, Aiden now shares his spine-chilling talent in the Revenant Room aboard the Queen Mary.  Even if you’ve viewed his television appearances, he’s still got a few tricks up his sleeves having modified what you have seen before and able to end each act with a stunned crowd.

Arriving guests mingle amongst chilling artifacts in the Haunted Museum and enjoy specialty cocktails in the Revenant Lounge before showtime.  Everyone is guided into a cozy section of the Queen Mary decked with vintage suitcases, dolls, an hourglass, curtains, and hanging portraits of past celebrity guests during the Queen Mary’s heyday.

Aiden Sinclair relies on the audience’s suspension of disbelief in the macabre.  The stage is small to maintain the level of intimacy any good illusionist would rely on upon close-up magic.  This is not a flashy, sparkly engagement with distracting assistants to provide misdirection.  Aiden commands everyone’s attention to his voice as he immerses the room with ghostly tales that surrounds the Queen Mary’s ominous vibe.  He not only invites you to partake in the ship’s legend but summons its spirits as well in this 90-minute séance.  There are moments when our host barely makes any physical contact with his volunteers, you’ll swear he may in fact be able to read people’s mind.

If you prefer thrills with more supernatural weight in the realm of paranormal investigations over giant scare maze events such as Queen Mary Dark Harbor, perhaps this show is just what you’ve been looking for in addition to the already established ghost tours available onboard.  To each their own.  Besides, it’s just a bunch of “hocus pocus”.

“Creepshow” Comes to Life at Universal Studios Hollywood in new maze

“Creepshow” will scare the creep out of guests when this all-new “Halloween Horror Nights,” maze, inspired by the 1982 cult classic movie and Shudder’s all-original anthology series, debuts as part of Universal Studios Hollywood’s wildly popular nighttime event, kicking off on Friday, September 13.

The original Creepshow movie, created by legendary director George Romero, and the all-new series, debuting on Shudder’s streaming service, reimagined by acclaimed make-up artist, director and executive producer, Greg Nicotero, invites “Halloween Horror Nights” guests to step into the anthology’s comic book pages to experience five terrible tales of terror guided by The Creep, the skeletal namesake of the comic book.
“I’ve partnered with Universal Studios Hollywood and ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ for years and it’s a thrill to bring ‘Creepshow’ to life for the fans as part of this year’s iconic event,” said Greg Nicotero. “I consider myself honored to have had the opportunity to work alongside George Romero and many other groundbreaking filmmakers who have inspired me.  So to be able to create a television show based on the Creepshow movie, and then see it come to life as a ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ maze is a great way to pay tribute to this legendary filmmaker and introduce this incredible anthology series to fans old and new.”

“We’re thrilled to bring this beloved horror classic to ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ as well as introduce our fans to the upcoming Shudder series,” said John Murdy, Executive Producer, “Halloween Horror Nights.”  We’ve had a long association with Greg Nicotero as part of ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ and getting the opportunity to again work with his talented special effects team at KNB FX brings a whole other level of authenticity to this incredible maze experience.”

Endgame

Capturing the essence of the original film that touted, “the most fun you’ll have getting scared,” to Shudder’s assertion that “a new generation of horror has risen from the dead,” the five frightening fables featured in the maze include:

“Father’s Day” – Years ago Nathan Grantham, the cruel patriarch of the wealthy Grantham family, was murdered by his long-suffering daughter on Father’s Day. Now Nathan’s maggot-infested corpse has risen from the grave to take revenge on his inheritors…and finally claim his Father’s Day cake.

“The Crate” – An unlucky janitor finds a long-forgotten shipping crate under the stairs of a science hall in a small east coast college. Little does he know, the crate contains a ravenous beast that’s been hibernating for over a hundred years…and it’s just woken up.

“They’re Creeping Up On You” – Eccentric billionaire Upson Pratt lives in a hermetically sealed “germ proof” penthouse apartment in Manhattan but he still has a bug problem. When a citywide blackout cuts his power, Mr. Pratt’s pest problem is about to get a whole lot worse.

“Gray Matter” – Ritchie Grenadine, an alcoholic former factory worker, unknowingly ingests a strange mutagen after guzzling a can of cheap beer. Now an alien fungus has taken over his rundown apartment and his body…creating in him an insatiable hunger that can’t be quenched by his favorite ale.

“Bad Wolf Down” – The surviving members of a decimated American army platoon in the North of France during World War II are holed up in a small village jail awaiting the German army to overwhelm them. The clever lot, however, have an ace up their sleeve that the German’s won’t expect; the men are all werewolves and tonight is a full moon.

“Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios Hollywood brings together the sickest minds in horror to immerse guests in a living, breathing, three-dimensional world of terror. Featuring an all-new slate of unrivaled film production quality mazes and frightful scare zones uniquely themed to today’s most definitive horror properties, “Halloween Horror Nights” will taunt, terrorize and torment guests with spine-chilling haunted attractions as part of Southern California’s most extreme Halloween experience.

The Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor Unveils: Rogue

Dark Harbor

Brace for impact as The Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor releases a storm of fear like no other in the all-new maze: Rogue. Dark Harbor’s newest maze will take guests through the frightening voyage that nearly changed history. Sparking the creation of the Hollywood blockbuster The Poseidon Adventure, the 95-foot wall of blackness sent waves of panic through the marine community and re-defined science as we know it. All who dare will gasp for air as they plummet with fear, clinging to survival in the newest, spine-chilling maze.

As the tale goes, while transporting American troops during World War II, the RMS Queen Mary became known as the Grey Ghost. During a stormy December crossing from New York to Scotland, the famed ocean liner was broadsided by a monstrous force of nature: later classified by NOAA as a “rogue wave”.

Dark Harbor attendees will roll into the tide of this historic moment by becoming fully immersed in the panic and chaos of Rogue’s impact with deafening water effects, complete darkness, floor to ceiling seafoam, and even experience the feeling of being capsized. All those aboard will hold on to dear life, as the Grey Ghost attempts to keep herself afloat.

In addition to the announcement of the all-new maze, the producers of Dark Harbor announced at Midsummer Scream, on Sunday, August 4, for the first-time ever, Dark Harbor guest will have access to never-before-seen depths of the Queen Mary. In one of the newly re-imagined mazes onboard the historic ocean liner, attendees can now walk through the infamous Door 13. Dubbed one of the most haunted areas on the ship, legend has it that an 18-year old crewman was crushed to death by Door 13 in 1967, and now Dark Harbor guests can walk-thru the iconic location. Guests can also venture 6-fathoms below sea level submerged in the notorious Boiler Room to indulge in the newest secret bar offered at Dark Harbor nightly.

Southern California’s most haunted Halloween event will welcome MORE scares than ever before with the season’s most authentically frightening experience available. Dark Harbor tells the truly haunted, historic tales of the Queen Mary through the infamous spirits of Captain, Chef, Iron Master, Samuel the Savage, Graceful Gale, Half-Hatch Henry, Scary Mary, Voodoo Priestess, Ringmaster, plus hundreds of their bloodcurdling henchmen await to tempt your fate.

Live your nightmares aboard the Queen Mary with newly-intensified returning mazes Feast, B340 and Lullaby. Circus and Intrepid prove even more twisted and darker than before with new immersions and even more twisted scares for the 2019 season.

With Dark Harbor’s disturbingly creative minds, 6 mazes, 13 bars, fire shows, aerialists, sliders, Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch Sinister Swings, Panic! 4-D Experience, zombie DJs, Barrel Room Tastings, R.I.P. Lounge, and much more, Dark Harbor 2019 is certain to be a freakishly fun time.

The annual haunt opens its gates on September 26 and continues to scare those who dare on select nights through November 2. General admission ticket prices start at just $20 online, with Fast Fright, Evil Express, RIP Lounge Passes, Creepy Cabanas and lodging packages available. Dark Harbor is offering a 40% discount on general admission for select nights until August 5 at 11:59 pm with promo code SCREAM.
