What if teenage anxiety transformed you into a giant red panda? It’s the kind of question only the creative minds at Pixar Animation Studios would dare to ask and answer in Disney and Pixar’s wild and wonderful new animated feature, Turning Red.
The spring issue of Disney twenty-three features an exclusive cover showcasing the cuddly oversized character (the much bigger and furrier version of Mei Lee, a teen with a lot on her mind), as well as a conversation with director Domee Shi and star Sandra Oh about creating this unique tale, which premieres exclusively on Disney+ on March 11.
And later this spring, Doctor Strange will face his greatest challenge as he staves off chaos in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Co-producer Richie Palmer and star Xochitl Gomez reveal how they tackled the most complicated tale yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new issue, available exclusively to Gold Members of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, also details what guests can expect when they travel on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort starting this March, as writer Will Keck goes “undercover” for the Resistance and manages to sample the exquisite cuisine, “shore excursion,” and entertainment offerings along the way.
In another part of the World, Imagineers are putting the finishing touches on EPCOT’s first other-World Showcase Pavilion—the Wonders of Xandar—and discuss the excitement that awaits guests on one of the largest indoor roller coaster experiences in the world. Plus, the stellar journey of pilot droid RX-24, better known as “Rex,” is chronicled in honor of 35 years of the popular Star Tours attraction.
Also included in the Spring 2022 issue of Disney twenty-three:
– Sixty years of “great responsibility” with Spider-Man

“Million Dollar Quartet” is the Tony Award-winning smash-hit musical inspired by the true story of the legendary recording session that brought together rock ‘n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins for the first and only time back on December 4, 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis, TN.
With live performances at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts until Sunday, February 13, 2022, you’ll see exactly why this dramatization was one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll jam sessions to have ever materialized. The amazing pool of talent brought together to recreate and relive that moment in music history features more than 20 timeless and enduring classic hits including “Blue Suede Shoes”, “That’s All Right”, “I Walk the Line”, “Great Balls of Fire”, “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”, “Hound Dog”, “(Ghost)Riders in the Sky”, and “See You Later Alligator”.
It’s the kind of jukebox musical that ties rockabilly and gospel influences together tightly-nit with very real behind-the-record drama. Bringing the heartfelt and soul-enriching characters to life not just by covering high-energy songs perfectly, but capturing the real life counterparts mannerisms and behaviors that the audience can easily get absorbed into emotionally.
Walking into this production blind, I came with the assumption the show would just sugarcoat and make all the songs, artists, and producer shine and sparkle like a fairy-tale. The production does so in the best way, but also surprisingly acknowledges the uphill battles, sympathetic drama, struggling backgrounds, sensitive controversies, and uncertain futures, sharing that human and vulnerable element that the audience can relate and retain attachment. These are not just legends of their time. They parallel timeless themes of living. There’s still a strong relevance that transcends age.
The enduring cast engulf the stage with live music, natural chemistry, high-energy, and irresistible charm. Jacob Barton brings the incomprehensible swagger of “Elvis Presley”. Steven Lasiter as “Johnny Cash” with that signature deep vocal. Trevor Dorner is a riot as “Jerry Lee Lewis”.
Showcasing the best of his signature moves like Michael J. Fox in “Back to the Future”. And Nathan Burke as “Carl Perkins” brings to light what it is to remain in the dark. Then there’s Sean Casey Flanagan as “Sam Phillips”, music producer of Sun Records, the proud man of the hour fighting his way to the top by discovering the best.
Taylor Kraft as “Dyanne” as Elvis’ lady friend but more importantly sliding in her sultry rendition of “Fever” to the testosterone filled recording studio. And, of course, Justin Bendel as “Brother Jay” and Jon Rossi as “Fluke” on cello and drums, respectively. Not to underplay these non-dialogue characters, but they do play a large part in the entertainment value behind all the main players. There wouldn’t be a show without them. Be on the lookout for their moments to shine sporadically throughout the 2 hour show.
“Million Dollar Quartet” is the best of Broadway and Vegas combined. The passion and raw high energy wasn’t just beaming out from the burning lights and loud speakers, they were shining through this star-studded cast.
Million Dollar Quartet

Grant Curtis, Trevor Waterson and Rebecca Kirsch serve as co-executive producers.
The Lincoln Center Theater Production of “My Fair Lady” at Segerstrom Center for the Arts blossoms as “lovely” as the elegant flowers it pedals. Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe wrote the book and the score, adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s famous play and Gabriel Pascal’s motion picture “Pygmalion”.
The story follows Shereen Ahmed (“The Sound of Music; “Shrek”) as impoverished flower girl Eliza Doolittle being ridiculed by upperclassmen of higher social and economic stature. Laird Mackintosh (“The Phantom of the Opera”; “Mary Poppins” as linguistics Professor Henry Higgins conducts a social experiment with fellow highly educated Kevin Pariseau (“Legally Blonde”; “Chicago”) as Colonel Pickering founding the project. In six months time, the two “gentlemen” shape unrefined Eliza to speak, dress, and act like a duchess to the gleeful delight of their own ego.
They gallantly flaunt their prize unbeknownst to the wealthy guests of extravagant social gatherings and to the sorrowful tune of their subject’s objectification. While Eliza’s personal goal for a new life by improving appearance and linguistics skills, the constant belittling of her sex and upbringing displays the relentless narcissistic personality of Higgins and his less than noble charity work. This bickering accumulates with Higgins realizing his own setbacks but never admitting them. Story ends from here. As a young patron unfamiliar and holding no nostalgia for the class act of “My Fair Lady”, the story’s unsatisfying conclusion left me baffled. I later learned apparently I am not the only one with this passionate sentiment.
The supporting cast bring parallels and further context to the lives surrounding that of Eliza Doolittle and Professor Higgins. Adam Grupper (“Wicked”; “The Addams Family”) as Alfred P. Doolittle plays Eliza’s father with class parameters and values not so different from that of Higgins despite appearances. Leslie Alexander (“Mamma Mia!”; “The Boy From Oz”) as Mrs. Higgins takes on a nurturing role as a spiritual moral compass. Sam Simahk (“The King and I”; “Sweeney Todd”) as Freddy Eynsford-Hill is presented as a handsome suitor who shares an unrelenting admiration for Eliza in comparison to Higgins’ misogynistic behavior.
Despite the musical’s longevity and recognition in the theater community, I surprised myself disliking the story’s ending to a point where I find the entirety of the production almost irredeemable if it were not for the professional quality of the show’s exemplary performers, eye-popping set design, and commentary on class distinctions. The character of Higgins is not that of a charismatic jerk but more of a snotty prick you want to punch in the face… played brilliantly by Laird Mackintosh. Shereen Ahmed carries a range of accents and character changes that is perfectly balanced.
You’ll want to root for Shereen Ahmed and boot Laird Mackintosh, respectfully. The vibrant and diverse cast handles the complexity of the characters and story with meticulous ease. The next time I view “My Fair Lady”, will have less focus on whatever connection there is between Eliza and Higgins as that relationship fell apart on me. Perhaps part of the underlying message sees classes and titles are not always as they claim and will continue the stakes with no end in sight. “My Fair Lady” is a blooming high-caliber revival sure to water the dry ears of a musical audience.
We regret to report that the January 14, 2022 7:30 PM, January 15, 2022 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM and the January 16 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM performances of My Fair Lady are postponed due to positive COVID cases within the company. We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this scheduling change has caused ticket holders. Please hold onto your tickets while we work to reschedule the performance.
Disney Legend Tim Allen will executive-produce “The Santa Clause” (working title), a Disney+ Original limited series in which he reprises the beloved role of Scott Calvin from Walt Disney Pictures’ blockbuster franchise.
Production is set to begin in Los Angeles in March. Award-winning Jack Burditt (“30 Rock,” “Modern Family,” “Frasier,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) is the executive producer and showrunner and Kevin Hench (“Last Man Standing”), Richard Baker and Rick Messina will also serve as executive producers.

Allen won a People’s Choice Award for his portrayal of Scott Calvin, Santa Claus’s proxy, complete with expanding waistline, rosy cheeks and snow-white whiskers in the 1994 film “The Santa Clause.”. He went on to play the role in two sequels, both hugely popular movies, 2002’s “The Santa Clause 2” and 2006’s “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.”
In the Disney+ series, Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.
Allen, whose popularity skyrocketed as the star of the top-rated ABC series “Home Improvement,” earned numerous awards for his role of Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, including a Golden Globe in 1994 and The People’s Choice Award for eight consecutive years from 1992-1999. Allen also starred for nine seasons on the hit series “Last Man Standing.”
In 1995, the multi-talented actor lent his voice to Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s first computer animated film, “Toy Story.” He reprised the iconic role as the arrogant yet lovable space action figure in two sequels, 1999’s “Toy Story 2” and 2010’s “Toy Story 3.” He also appeared as the character in a number of “Toy Story” short films including “Hawaiian Vacation,” “Small Fry” and “Partysaurus Rex.”
He reunited with the creative team from “The Santa Clause” to make Disney’s “Jungle 2 Jungle,” and also starred in the feature remake of a Disney classic,” The Shaggy Dog,” in 2006.
Allen also lent his own voice as narrator to the 2012 Disneynature documentary, “Chimpanzee” and co-starred in the 2007 Touchstone comedy “Wild Hogs” along with the 1999 film “Galaxy Quest.”
In 1994, Disney’s Hyperion Publishing released his debut book, Don’t Stand Too Close to a Naked Man. It topped the New York Times Bestsellers list and led to a second book, also published by Hyperion, I’m Not Really Here.
