Theatre Review: Get ‘On Your Feet’ at La Mirada

La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts & McCoy Rigby Entertainment presents a new musical production of “On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan”. The original jukebox musical of Cuban-fusion pop songs is based on the life of a 26-time Grammy Award-winning husband-and-wife team with music, lyrics, and orchestrations by Emilio and Gloria Estefan.

Book by Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Alexander Dinelaris (“The Bodyguard” musical). The two stunning leads of this production also originated the world premiere Spanish language version of the show.

Besides being an original Broadway performer, Luis Salgado was also the Assistant Latin Choreographer of “In the Heights” on Broadway and returns now as director and choreographer for the La Mirada Theatre production. Salgado said, “This story exemplifies the American Dream through the eyes and work ethic of Cuban immigrants. The Estefans have given us permission to dare to dream bigger.

They allowed their truth to resonate through their music, penetrating all of us, whether you’re Latine or not. This joy is a gift we want to give to our audiences. We are passionate about opening the door of representation on this tour and nurturing a diverse family both backstage and on stage, with creative team members who are joining us from around the world.”

Emilio and Gloria Estefan inspire their true story to live music, dancing, singing, and drama about heart, heritage, and two people who believed in their talent, and each other. The show is bookended by Gloria’s (Gaby Albo) concert performance balancing her life backstage with her husband Emilio (Samuel Garnica). The story begins with young Gloria impressing her father through a recording of her singing talent. Growing up in Miami, Gloria’s grandmother Consuelo (Adela Romero) introduces the two foreseeing a potential for success.

However, Gloria’s mother Gloria Fajardo (Kristen Tarragó) has reservations about her daughter pursuing a musical career. Believing a life on the road would pull her away from family and tradition. Gloria and Emilio defy the odds against an uphill climb of self-doubt, expectations, loss, success, exhaustion, tragedy, and recovery. No matter the public limelight, there is so much still the audience can relate to in the couple’s personal lives.

“On Your Feet” immerses the audience in the joy, tears, and hope of Estefan’s preserves. The seven-piece band opens the stage to exhilarating heights. Digital projection screens rise up and down adjusting the mood and setting. Lighting ranges from a sunny Florida to an epic rock concert.

The vocals lift your spirits and the dancing gets you shaking to the beat in your seat. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” comes to Disney+ in 4k

The feature film that started it all, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” comes to Disney+ in a beautiful 4K restoration on October 16, celebrating The Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary. This restored version of the 1937 classic is the result of the combined efforts of the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team, working closely with key artists from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the same team who recently worked together on the critically acclaimed restoration of Walt Disney’s 1950 animated classic, “Cinderella.”

Disney Animation artists Michael Giaimo (production designer for the upcoming animated musical adventure “Wish,” as well as “Frozen” and “Frozen 2”) and animator/director Eric Goldberg (head of hand-drawn animation for Disney Animation’s newest short, “Once Upon A Studio,” director, “Pocahontas,” “Fantasia/2000”) were honored to re-team with their colleagues at Walt Disney Studios on the project.

“The opportunity to help restore Snow White was both an honor and a challenge,” said Goldberg. “As the very first Walt Disney feature, Mike Giaimo and I felt we owed a debt to history to get it looking as beautiful, and as accurate to the original colors, as we could. The muted palette and the delicate watercolor backgrounds evoke the illustrated fairy tales that Walt so loved, and the story and characters continue to resonate to this day. I hope our work inspires future generations of animation artists to fully appreciate the masterful talent and care that has gone into this landmark film.”

Kevin Schaeffer, director of Restoration for Walt Disney Studios, said. “We are incredibly excited to go back to Walt’s original negative and use current state-of-the-art technology to restore this stunning classic to its original beauty.”

“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” stands as one of the greatest triumphs in animation history, as the first full-length cel animated feature in the history of motion pictures. The film was recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences with a special honorary Oscar – one large Oscar accompanied by seven smaller ones – which was presented to Walt Disney by Shirley Temple.

The film is the highest-ranked animated feature on the American Film Institute’s “100 Years…100 Movies” list and was inducted into the National Film Registry in the registry’s inaugural year, 1989.

Disneyland Resort Announces Limited-Time Kids’ Ticket Offer

Disneyland Resort is launching a new, limited-time kids’ special ticket offer for use early in the new year! Beginning Oct. 24, 2023, guests can purchase a child’s ticket (valid only for children ages 3-9) to a Disneyland Resort theme park for as low as $50 per child, per day with this kids’ special ticket offer.

Disneyland Resort Reservations Update

“Behind the Attraction” Season 2 Premieres Nov 1 on Disney+

Disney+ and Disney Parks have revealed the official trailer and key art for season two of the Disney+ Original docuseries “Behind the Attraction,” premiering November 1 on Disney+.

The series, from Disney Branded Television, takes viewers on a ride behind Disney Parks’ most iconic and beloved attractions, featuring the Imagineers who designed them and the Cast Members who operate them.

On the heels of season one’s exploration of staples including Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, “it’s a Small World,” and Space Mountain, season two will continue to showcase more quintessential Disney Parks’ attractions including Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Indiana Jones Adventure, EPCOT, The Food, and Nighttime Spectaculars.

The series hails from Dwayne Johnson & Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions and The Nacelle Company and is narrated by Paget Brewster (“Criminal Minds”).
