Geek Couture is here to stay now that the Her Universe Fashion Show has made its triumphant return to San Diego Comic Con.
Returning in person to the ever so familiar Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, The Her Universe Fashion show electrified the convention fervor, once again reminding us all what the power of fandom and creativity can bring to the world.
Fans were eager to welcome back the longstanding event, which made a virtual run last year due to the ongoing pandemic. Though the virtual show was a resounding success, it is safe to say everyone couldn’t have been more excited to be back in person, especially since the ballroom catwalk has not had a single strut since 2019. This year’s theme was fitting, “Coming Home”.
Just like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, we have been lost and trying to find our way back through the ripples of isolation and trouble caused by the pandemic. Beautifully stated, Ashley Eckstein brought it all to center on the return of the show, with every single member of the audience being welcomed back with a sense of hope and courage.
The show was also an opportunity to highlight the 2021 show winners, with each debuting new geek couture inspired outfits for the night’s festivities. 2022 also marked the reveal of a brand new centerpiece for the show stage, a brilliant star dedicated to the memory of late Her Universe Junior Fashion Show designer, Miranda Star.
Overall, Five waves of unique designers from all corners of fandom came together on stage, each design just as painstakingly impressive as the last. From Emperor’s New Groove, to Spirited Away, to the Lizzie McGuire Movie, each design vied for the chance to be selected as a part of a duo of new designers tasked with making a unique collection for Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, The Marvels.
Your 2022 Her Universe Fashion Show Winners!
After careful deliberation, Cindy Guillermo Heselton was crowned the judge’s winner with their Turning Red inspired look, Caged. Joining her in victory was the audience choice winner, Michael Burson. Burson’s Doctor Strange Hellfire Gala outfit dazzled, bringing down the house with an endless amount of flair.
Her Universe has also revealed a variety of new products and designs to celebrate Comic Con with collections from Star Wars, Marvel, and Studio Ghibli. The Studio Ghibli line, dubbed, The Harajuku Collective, will also take part in an exclusive pop up in Japan, marking an international move for the Her Universe Brand.
The Harajuku Collective and pop up event will debut in August, wowing fans with special inspired looks from Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and many more!
You can learn all about the new product line, as well as what’s coming soon by checking out HerUniverse.com!

Can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store for the Her Universe Fashion Show. There truly is no place like San Diego Comic Con, and no show like this anywhere, whether here or beyond the rainbow!
The new Disney+ Original series “National Treasure: Edge of History,” based on the hit film franchise, made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, complete with a Ballroom 20 panel, a new teaser trailer, and a behind-the-scenes look at the series.
Moderated by comedian and influencer Jenny Lorenzo (“What’s Up, Disney+”), the panel featured series stars Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, Lyndon Smith and executive producers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley. Additionally, it was announced that Harvey Keitel (“Pulp Fiction”), who played Peter Sadusky in the “National Treasure” film franchise, will join the series as a guest star in the same role. The Disney Branded Television series is produced by ABC Signature for Disney+.
The series focuses on a young heroine, Jess (Lisette Olivera), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.
During the panel, executive producers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley shared their vision for the reboot of the smash hit franchise and how incredibly thrilled they are to showcase this dream cast for the series, which also includes Academy and Tony Award®-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. It was previously announced that Justin Bartha will guest star in the series, reprising his role as Riley Poole.
In addition to Olivera, the series also stars Zuri Reed (“Flatbush Misdemeanors”) as Tasha, Jess’ ride-or-die friend who joins the treasure hunt but is forced to reevaluate her belief system to help her best friend; Antonio Cipriano (“Jagged Little Pill” on Broadway) as Oren, a lovable but self-obsessed goofball with an encyclopedic knowledge of conspiracy theories that attempts to win back Tasha’s affections; Jordan Rodrigues (“Lady Bird”) as Ethan, Jess’ childhood best friend who has loved her since the day they met.
Jake Austin Walker (“Rectify”) as Liam, a swoon-worthy struggling musician, with a permanent chip on his shoulder, who comes from a long line of treasure hunters; Catherine Zeta-Jones (“Chicago”) as Billie, a badass billionaire, black-market antiquities expert and treasure hunter who lives by her own code; and Lyndon Smith (“Parenthood”) as FBI Agent Ross, a dogged investigator who begins to realize there’s a greater conspiracy at hand.
Jerry Bruckheimer, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed executive produce the series alongside Rick Muirragui, who also serves as a writer. Jon Turteltaub is also an executive producer. Mira Nair is directing and executive producing.

Strap yourselves in and prepare for thrill ride of summer 2022 you’ve been waiting for. Wonder Woman – Flight of Courage has made a solid landing and speeding off to new heights at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Opening the runway in the newly renovated DC Universe area, the amusement park sets and breaks world records solidifying itself as the thrill capitol of the world. This will be Six Flags Magic Mountain’s 20th roller coaster operating in the park. The Rocky Mountain Construction roller coaster is not only the world’s longest single-rail roller coaster in the world at 3,300 feet, but also the world’s tallest at 131 feet.
That first drop plummets brave riders down an 87 degree angle. The 12 passenger trains whizzes by at a top speed of 58 mph. 3 inversions including a raven dive, 180 degree stall, and zero-g roll. Several airtime hills that includes left and right tilts along the track. Not to mention dramatic a high speed turnaround and gut-wrenching overbank cutback.
The single-rail steel roller coaster is a comfortable, smooth ride in single row seating configuration. Helpful attendants secure and lock the over-the shoulder restraints as the vehicle slowly crawls from one end of the load station to the other. The shoulder belts gives a sense of security, especially when hanging upside down for a few seconds during the ride. Although they may slip for anyone with small shoulders and while whipping around back and forth. Not too worry as the lap bar locks your legs into place.
There is an indoor segment of the queue themed to the Embassy of Themyscira. The exterior is painted to appear like marble, while the interior is decorated with banners, armor, weapons, shields, banners, and description of other Greek characters. Around the turn, lockers are provided for a minimal fee or leave your belongings with a non-rider. There is a small clear-plastic zip pouch in front each seat for pocket-sized items like wallets, smartphones, and car keys. The Flash Pass option will also be available at an additional cost for a shorter wait in line.
The opening ceremony invited Los Angeles first responders as the first official riders. Wonder Woman herself made an appearance to greet fans and coaster enthusiasts. The billowing wind dispersed a cloud of sparkling confetti whilst spreading the light of truth, justice, and equality over all in attendance.
Wonder Woman will toss, turn, and hang you upside down extracting all the fear and tension from your body producing uncontrollable streams of giggles and laughter. By the end, the only truth left to admit is how thrilling and exhilarating the experience was that you’ll want to go back again and again. Honestly, that’s no lie. The front seats delivers an unprecedented scope of views in all directions of the park. The back seating drags and pulls riders in and hugs onto the twisted steel track. The middle seat section supplies a prime form of comfort in between.

Oh Boy! The Happiest Place on Earth just turned 67 and Disneyland guests were surprised with magic, spectacle, and one-of-a-kind experiences that included the iconic return of a resort staple, the Red Car Trolley.
To start off the day, the Big Cheese himself, Mickey Mouse, hopped aboard the Red Car Trolley at Buena Vista Street and was the first to take the trolley around Disney California Adventure. All the way, Mickey greeted guests, danced, and stopped for photos to commemorate the return of the trolley. SocalThrills had the honor of being the very first to climb aboard to join in the fun afterwards, reliving the magic and sharing in the excitement of the trolley coasting down the streets of Hollywood Blvd.
Though the trolley was not running throughout the day, fans got plenty of opportunities to snap photos, climb aboard, and take part in the celebration. Here’s hoping that with the return of the trolley, Disney fans will once again get an opportunity to grab Buena Vista Street’s latest headlines with the Red Car News Boys!
The birthday festivities didn’t stop there, as Disneyland fans of all ages gathered to sing “Happy Birthday” to their favorite theme park alongside the Dapper Dans, The Disneyland Band, and the Fab Five! Only time will tell, with plenty of amazing things yet to come.
For now, Happy Birthday Disneyland, may your imagination and magic never cease to amaze!

There is not a shred of doubt to see why “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” is the most current recipient of 10 Tony-Awards, including best musical. The cabaret nature of nightclub performances suits very well with the jukebox musical style of a broadway caliber exhibition of “truth, beauty, freedom, and love”.
The most fun cabaret show to come to the Pantages Theatre and Los Angeles, as a whole. The palpable exuberance was translucent between audience and performers. A surrounding vibe of a comforting safe space shared by all in attendance. So powerful in fact, that the returning musical number from intermission alone commands a well-deserving standing ovation. The meticulous set design matches, blends, and highlights with the ornate architectural showmanship of the Pantages Theatre as its host. A time machine for the ages in sight and sound.
Take in the “awe” in the awesomeness of this one-of-kind tour-de-force of song and dance like no other. “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” takes Vegas back and shows off how it’s really done. Packed and intertwined with pop music from Sia, Lorde, Beyonce, Britney Spears, and countless more. The show allows the freedom to evolve through time to be forever relevant to the contemporary audience.
The romance story beats remain intact, but manages to get around certain setbacks and far exceeds the original 2001 film. This live spectacular is far superior and a vast improvement to its predecessor. Christian chimes in narrating and bookending his own love story, which gives in to the meta outlook of the show within-the-show the characters are putting together for the Moulin Rouge being invested by the Duke.
In turn this keeps the love triangle between Christian, the Duke, and Satine straight-forward and easier to follow for the audience while making room for the numerous musical showstoppers. You can try to restrain yourself from throwing your arms up dancing from your seat, but that would be near impossible.
The electrifying and sizzling production is credited to the astounding cast and crew. Leading the way is the main cast of characters. Courtney Reed (Disney’s Aladdin, Mamma Mia!) as Satine. Conor Ryan (Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert) as Christian.
Austin Durant (Broadway’s Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Much Ado About Nothing) as Harold Zidler. André Ward (Rock of Ages, Escape to Margaritaville) as Toulouse-Lautrec. David Harris (Wicked, The Full Monty) as The Duke of Monroth.
